$2.50 150ml Insystem Pressurised Air Duster @ Office Works Bondi Junction

120

Saw this deal at Office Works Bondi Junction.
Pretty good price considering a 2 pack of 400ml Pressurised Cans sells for about $20.

There were four shelves of cans so unlikely to sell out immediately …

Useful for cleaning that mysterious stuff that ends up between the keys on keyboards or as a fan to create that much sort after BeeGees look for a few seconds.

This stuff clogs up and barely blows anything after a couple of seconds use.

I bought one of these a while back. These are terrible. They not only spray out a gas but more often then not a liquid. Which leaves a residue on the surface your spraying. And yes I sprayed it upright.

    • Ahh sucky, I was gonna use this to clean out the dust from my computer, but once I read the liquid bit, I'd rather now…any other ideas guys?

A few things you can do -

        • Vacuum cleaner with a blower attachment. Almost all old vacuum cleaners had 'out' ports you could attach the hose to, so you could blow up air mattresses or blow dust out of things. You can get very small attachments for keyboards and motherboards from eBay or Godfreys. They seem to be less common these days, but definitely still available. I bought one from ALDI for ~$50 a few years ago.
        • Cheap air compressor (it has to be an air compressor, NOT a tyre inflator - the $6-$20 tyre inflators only put out small puffs of air, not strong enough to blow out dust)
        • An artist friend told me he uses old car tyres for his air brush. Get an old car tyre, pump it up to full (you can probably go way past the usual pressure because you won't be driving on it) then connect a tube to the valve. It'll spray out plenty of air for a good while, enough to dust out equipment. Adapters can be found on eBay from memory.
        • Electronics grade compressed air cans. Very expensive, but if you need it you need it. I used to carry some around in my toolkit. ~$20 a can and doesn't last too long, but if you're working on expensive equipment you DON'T want to use this OfficeWorks crap.

Yeah not sure if its poor design or form-factor of the can.

But it seems to spray the propellant out along with whatever compressed gas they are using (co2 or regular air?).

I would be damn careful using these things on anything sensitive (CPU fans/GPUs/RAM). The propellant actually managed to freeze a plastic bag I had a pc fan sitting on. To the point where it crumbled away…yeah the plastic crumbled.

  • I wouldn't buy it again either. Get the more expensive 400ml one.

Waste of money, save your money towards a compressor that can be used for so many other things!!

  • guys, i bought this
    http://www.bunnings.com.au/products_product_3inone-professio…?

    70 PSI continuous pressure
    Ideal for use in workshops
Permanently attached precision straw sprays into hard-to-reach places
Safely removes dirt and dust from electronics and workbenches

and used it for my NAS Synology, spray to the inside after opening the case and installing new RAM.
so far so good. not excessive praying but hardly see any dust inside anymore

  • nah, buy an air compressor. that will really clean your computer or nas or whatever

  • These are always $2.50 and available at most (not all) stores, have bought a few cans over the past couple years at $2.50

  • although cheap, the liquid seems to come out more than the air. therefore after a couple time use, the can seem to finish so quick, in compare to my 500ml other brand one. seems like it only has use for 50ml

It's funny, you go to bunnings and see that can of air for $16, sitting next to cans of CRC, degreaser, and other stuff all under $5 and you think WTF. Why am I paying 3 times more for AIR. :S

    • It's sorta like some shops charging $2 for coke etc, and $3 for water lol

These really are quite crap. Tried on for cleaning the dust off fans and inside my PC case. Barely removed any dust.

  • weird but i haven't had issues with these…just make sure u dont spray for longer than a few seconds at a time and i never got vapour come out or anything worked a treat
