  • DSE have the 500GB with 2 controllers and 2 games for $349

    • This model has a slot loading blury .. CPU and gpu are still 40/45nm same as super slim.. The super slim uses 7% less power then this one. Overall this is the better ps3 but Sony plan to release one last ps3 with a 22nm CPU and 28nm gpu befor the eol the ps3

    • HDD space and extra controllers: Good

Game bundles: not so good, given the huge amount of games included with a PS Plus subscription.

  • They still have this model in stock? o_O

  • Yeah, they do, seen lots of them in different HN's in Sydney

    • I haven't seen them in EB anymore so I thought they're pretty much gone.
I simply like the design of this model better.
Compared to the one that looks like a BBQ grill.
But yeah, that's just personal taste

      • I agree, that's why I have two of this model, the new one just looks cheap

  • Delivery is showing as available for $6.95 more so I added it to the title, but the OP removed it… do they know something I don't?

  • Not such a great deal when you can often get a 500GB PS3 bundle for not much more.

Here's one from EB Games for $288 with 2 games. There's also the other bundle which cloud226 posted.

    • That's arguable.

$308 for a $238 PS3 + Playstation Plus subscription and you've got a "bundle" with… Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3, Saints Row The Third, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, LBP Karting, Catherine, Shadow of the Colossus/ICO HD, Malicious, Payday The Heist, Demons Souls…..and another 11 months of free games.

Yes you can buy it for the $288 PS3 as well, but at that point since it includes BF3 you're paying $50 for single copy of a 5 year old game and some HDD space you probably won't use. Plus the Super Slim's build quality isn't as nice and it can't bitstream HD audio.

      • What do you mean it can't bitstream HD audio? The Super Slim can bitstream DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD fine.

        • Never mind, got confused between Slim and Original.

      • Since when was BF3 a 5 year old game. BF3 wasn't released until October 2011. I think you've got games mixed up.

Although BF3 for PS3 is only worth $29 and GTA IV for PS3 is $24.98 at JB HI-FI.

Also don't forget once you stop paying for your Playstation Plus subscription you lose all those games as in the games are only valid so long as you have an active Playstation Plus subscription. So basically you have to keep paying up subscription forever or no more games. At least with a physical disc copy it's yours to keep no matter what with no further payments.

        • GTA 4 is a 5 year old game. I'm not including BF3 because its in PS Plus.

And yes, the point about owning the games is true, but the Plus has other benefits (including potential Galkai streaming of your digital PS3 games on the PS4.) and the value of those physical games are only going to drop even further in a years time once the PS4 is well established.

  • Still waiting for 2 digit PS3~

  • Anyone know what's the firmware version is??

    • It is 4 something as in my case

    • +1

Not the one you can jailbreak

  • Any opinion on which one is better, this one or the super slim one?

  • -1

I do have some HN vouchers, but not sure if I hold off until new console :~\??

  • thanks op, just purchased mine. i preferred this model ps3 over the one that available atm as the newer ones seems to look cheaply made

  • This model is definitely the superior one. Bought mine last year for $250 at Big W, haven't had any problems with it (and I play and use it for Blu-Rays heaps) and it's super-quiet and reliable. I bought a second model at the Target sale earlier this year for my family because I was afraid it's been cleared out most places (which, it seems, it has) and I didn't want them to have the crappier new "Super" Slim.
