      Jelly Bean

      • thanks

    • Cashback link not working anymore/at the moment….Just tried it from the start page too…

      • Back & working again.

If it was a $69 rebate, maybe.

  • +1

Worth it as a movie player on the back seat for the kids?

    • I would also like to know this. Am slightly concerned given KLF23 's comment above concerning viewing angle.

      • +1

I don't think kids will care about viewing angles. It can't be any worse than those cheap portable DVD players, with the benefit of not having to worry about damaging your DVDs or breaking the clamshell!

See video review (fast forward around 7 or 8 min mark)

        • -1

Looks crap… bad viewing angle and can't even play a proper video without stuttering…

    • I have bought one for the same person. It is dirt cheap, so nothing can go wrong.

  • Is this good as a backlit ereader?

  • got one for surfing the net

  • Whats the camera like?

    • Terrible, only front facing, 0.3 megapixel. I bought one tonight though, and for the money it is excellent. I got it for running droid planner in the field to fly my apm drones, but Ive been playing around with it tonight and its great, its reasonably snappy, surfing the net is fine, and the battery seems pretty good. For $60 you cant go wrong.

  • How does this compare to the last $99 tablet i bought, the legendary Optus MyTab? Is it time to upgrade Scotty?

    • Thats exactly what i am doing. Catch with optus ones is that it runs older version of android. So, my nieces cant play a lot of latest games. Spec wise this is a bit better. I reckon you can pretty much call it optus mytab of 2013, if that makes sense. If u happy with optus mytab, i wouldnt bother with this and wait till nexus 7 is around $100 mark in 6-12 months time.

      • +1

This tablet has no cellular connectivity so it is not quite comparable to the Mytab

  • No stock in Blacktown, NSW.

  • While adding this to my cart I discovered that there's a link to JB Hi-Fi's admin console on the website; Select a block of text from the product info to the "Overview" section below and you'll see a white "JB Admin" link to the right of "Add to Wishlist". The username jbhifi and password jbhifi seems to exist, but the password has expired.

So not for a 3 year old? Guess ones who Negged me to are to rich, then go buy an ipad for them, watch it split in half. I'm telling you I have seen it literally happen.

  • Bought one because I like the price number, if you know what I mean :p

    • -6

If you like the price, you'd better buy the Ainol… if you know what I mean…

  • bought one and now have to return it as it has bright red dead pixels

    • If it's a bright pixel then it's not a dead pixel…

      • Technically true… In the same way that in the real-world, if one were a knight then one would not likely be an elf!

All screen warranties should by rights treat all bright pixels as were they in fact much-much-worse-than-dead pixels.
Just in general, when customers return with faulty goods, smart retailers don't even refer to stupid warranty stipulations that shouldn't even be there in the first place.
Not to unnecessarily criticise Acer - I've never owned anything by them so haven't bothered checking their warranty T&C's.

  • Thanks OP. Bought one for mother's Christmas present - ereader etc. Free delivery!
I haven't had any problems with any Acer gear in the past - 4x monitors, an A100 tablet. Hopefully Zeeb's purchase is an anomaly.

    • Agreed, there's so much b*tchin' about Acer. Go figure. They do great stuff in tablets. I'm typing this from a bulletproof 3 year old Acer 1810TZ.

  • +2

    Lol screen doesn't auto rotate.

when I see screenshots like this, it makes me think Apple got the iPad Mini's screen size perfect.

    Still great price.

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/_migrated/pics/2013-0…

    • What? The screen does auto-rotate. ITs just locked from the factory…

  • +2

so tempting. but unfortunately i had seen the ipad 3…my eyes now only look at 2048x1596 retina screen pixels…

    yikes…

    • +1

Ha ha me too…. I will only consider Galaxy Tab 3 8" or Notes 8"

      • I havent read the news yet, but if only they are at least 1920x1080 resolution.

I am comfy with Surface also.

  • nice price

Went to chatswood jb last night, had some in stock. Not interested in the deal myself though

  • Surprised to see it is still in stock.

    • well……. i got stung by JB multiples times with in stock and took few months to cancel my order stated they never took my money in the 1st place so it's ok to cancel my order……

  • Anyone got a suggestion/advice on how to peel off the SNID sticker from the product box?

    • +1

On the laptops, you just use a stanley knife (or scissors) to cut an outline around it, about half way into the cardboard, and then peel it off, taking off the layers of cardboard as well. It is easier to take off a few layers of cardboard then risk tearing the sticker in half..

I dont know what the box is like for the tablet so YMMV

    • hair-dryer

      • Do not use a kettle to steam it off. This does not work (and yes I say this because I was stupid enough to try it).

    Android + 7'' + tablet + <=$100 == rubbish

    believe me

such kind of device is just bad quality rubbish

you must know, decent touch screen, smooth system cost money

    • +1

      1) This tablet's RRP is $150US, it's only this price because it's now superseded and on clearance.
      2) There's nothing wrong with it for lots of peoples' uses
      3) Have you posted a better deal? Oh..you haven't posted anything to the community…ever.
      4) Shouldn't you be in school?

      • review stated the touch is brilliant…… TN -> meh….
        still good

        • IPS Screen on Nexus 7 FTW!!

    • nothing wrong with android, its maturing quite nicely. Lots of quality games, apps and flash to watch video's online. It amazes me how many sites still use flash, but I'm thankful that I can access them on my n7. This tablet seems to offer extremely great value, especially based on the online reviews. Seems to even handle some light 3d games, nothing you'll find close to this interms of bang for buck from a local brick and mortar store. A huge advantage to android now, you can use tel$tra credit for playstore app purchases, which basically mean free games and apps. The problem is finding a way to spend the money each month. lol

Also there's nothing wrong with 7 inch form factor, personally I wouldn't buy a tablet any bigger. The 8 inch form factor is too big for my pants pockets and the 8 inch factor is too big to hold comfortably in one hand for most people. Actually bigger than 7 inches I prefer not to use a tablet.

      • Well that was long.

Btw, phones go in pockets. Tablets go in bags. If it fits in your pocket, it's not a tablet. Just my opinion.

        • No, laptops go in bags. Laptops still better than tablets. I don't want a tablet I need to lug around, it defeats their point.

        • I don't want a tablet with a screen only marginally bigger than a phone, "it defeats their point".

        • +1

The point here is, everyone has different 'points'. What defeats what point depends on the person's original point for getting it in the first place.

e.g. as an e-reader for books, a 10" tablet can be too heavy to hold up for 2 hours, whereas a 7" tablet that's a good bit lighter would be much easier.

As an e-reader for magazines however, a 7" would be awful as magazines are formatted for print, which is larger.

For web browsing, a 10" tablet is way better as webpages are formatted to suit larger screens. Unless you're surfing the net standing up in a bus - then a 7" tablet would be much better as a 10" tablet would be unwieldy.

Watching movies in a hotel room would be better on a 10" tablet, while watching movies in an airplane seat would suit a 7" tablet just fine.

We all use our tablets differently, so different screen sizes suit different people.

Easy solution - just buy one in each size. :)

        • Well if you can find a phone that is 7 inches and offers similar performance at a similar price point I'd be interested to know? 7 inch tablet aren't marginally bigger than a 4.5 inch phone, its more like an 8 inch tablet is marginally bigger than a 7 inch, but what I found is 7 inch is perfect size for me, some people like 8 inch form factor, some like 7 inch, and others like 10 inch. I definitely wouldn't consider a 10 inch form factor tablet for my purposes until they get remarkably better, and I still feel laptop is better option at that size.

        • That's not $69.

  • just got an ex display for $60, no cables (no big deal).

    • Hi tchi6,

please let me know how you going to peel off the Serial number sticker from the product box (for cashback).

      Thanks.

      • +1

cut it out, no biggie. if you peel it, you're more likely to tear all the info off

        • Thanks tchi6

  • Just picked one up from Holmesglen JBHiFi. Not bad for $70…will act as my OBD2 display in my car…

  • Ahh remind me of the days of my Dream G1. so slow and full of promise.

  • Looks a bit slow, but so cheap!

  • +1

Long time lurker, joined just to post about this tablet.

Picked one of these up yesterday to give to parents to use for Skype (they use a Skype Unlimited World subscription as their outbound phone).

Warning: the quality of the microphone subsystem is terrible, at least when using it with Skype. It is very, very quiet unless you put your face right up to the microphone. I did quite a bit of research on this topic last night and tried a number of "mic volume booster" apps but to no avail. I'm still trying to see if I can solve this, because the tablet is fine otherwise. If I can't find a decent solution, I'm tempted to return it.

    • If I can't find a decent solution, I'm tempted to return it.

Buy a decent bluetooth headset. http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Pho…

      • Thanks, if it was for me it would be ok, but for my parents that's a layer of complexity they're not willing to experiment with.

        • Well, you could try and see if the tablet's 3.5 mm port takes wired headsets? That's the simplest solution (just plug and play).

You should probably have a spare wired headset lying around (many phones, even dumbphones, come with wired headsets that nobody ever takes out of the packaging).

        • Same issue… it's another layer complexity (however simple it may seem).

Trust me, getting them to even understand the concept that the whole screen is full of buttons (i.e. it's a touchscreen) is a learning curve in itself.

  • I purchased one online so hopefully they will deliver !

  • out of stock now.

  • expired !! Just Checked online… "The offer you were looking for has now expired".
but call up and got one reserved from my local jb store.
i am going to add a free "dodgie" map and a bracket and turn this into a very big car gps…
damm got too many tablets and car GPSs but can't resist this. $70 for a 7" gps !!

  • +3

    Thank god, it's expired.

    • I don't think it has expired http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers-laptops/tablets/ace… . If you click on "check store stock" many stores are still showing stock. It's just a matter of confirming whether the price is still $98 and then the deal can be marked active again.

      • you can't add the item to cart for pick up so it is expired for sure unless you can call JB and reserve one for your at $98.

        • +1

Look at Sevenofnine's comment above yours. He/she did exactly that. The deal is not expired while there is still stock available and the price is still $98.

        • Yeah bought one earlier today, same price etc

  • Has anyone made a claim and their claim number starts with A and when you go to check your claim it says claim needs to start with N,D or some other letter?

    • Mine also starts with A.

      • it all starts with A for these B1 and A1 i believe. I made a claim via Acer Cash Back for my A1 a couple months ago and waiting the cash card to be received ETA 14th August.

        • Just wondering did you guys receive the cash back for the B1 yet? I submitted mine end of July but still heard nothing and as tchi6 mention I also can't check the status as it start with A

  • I got one on saturday from JB at Cabalaba. It replaces an ainol Aurora II with a cracked screen. CPU performance is really quite good. Dont really play any 3 games so the Power VR chip isnt that much of a downer. It does do auto screen rotate but its disabled by default in the drop down menu.

I like it alot so far. Screen viewing angles are poor but thats really the only downer. The touch performance and sensitivity is good because that was the letdown on the old aurora II. Though the viewing quality is noticeably poorer than the Aurora II. I like the fact it has a plastic screen cause I worry about the kids dropping and breaking the glass screen and getting cuts from the incident, (my wife managed to do that)

Stability has been really good so far, Really for the money its a great tablet.

The only other downer is the tap to pay wasnt working at the computer kiosk so I didn't get my 5% cb with ING

  • I should have paid a bit more and got a better screen.

    • You may expected too much for a $69 tablet.

      • Have you tried it? If so, what do you think?

        • I tried one at JB the screen not very good but I would accept it for $69 if someone want a cheap 7" tablet for casual browsing.

  • Where do you get the tax invoice or receipt?
I ordered onine and picked it up at a store.
I only have order conformation and Pickup ready email.

    • email them to for one. i've bought from online but had it delivered, not pick up. It comes with a proper tax invoice. An A4 printout, not the regular till receipt

  • Look for any payment documentation with the JBHIFI ABN on it (and possibly the words "tax invoice" like it says on my receipt).

    • The order conformation email does have their ABN No. But it does not have the words "Tax Invoice".
Maybe the store where I did pickup forgot to provide a receipt?

      • Do you have a document where the purchase information is provided ie the amount you paid, GST and payment details like credit card etc and the date of the transaction?

        • Yes, those details are in the order confirmation email.
Do you think that email is sufficient for claiming cash back?

        • No, they need TAX Invoice written on the receipt along with company ABN. I suggest you email JB to send you a tax invoice.

        • Email sent.
          Thanks.

        • Update: I got their reply email this morning. Tax Invoice is available from "Order History" in my JB online account.

  • Looks intriguing,

Will a recent owner confirm GPS GNav & BT as all functioning pls. TY
    & also, USB charging?

  • Asus web site does not accept my SNID. So I've send them an email about it.
Someone has already used the tablet before me since his email id was in the google plus. Any advice…

    • +1

did you buy a display model? it shouldn't have anyone's id logged on if it's brand new. I'd be complaining to the store

      • Thanks tchi6.

I did the click and collect thing, so it's shouldn't be a display model. May be someone bought it and returned it. I'm okay with that, just wants to get the cash back.

Yesterday, I spoke to the manager at the shop(City- Brisbane Queen St, MacArthur Central)I collected it. He isn't really helpful, in fact, appear rather aggressive. Not going back there again.

I emailed Asus and waiting for their replay. I'm sorry to miss out if I it didn't workout.

        • +1

          I hope you meant Acer.
