PER-PVG (Perth to Shanghai) Return on Cathay Pacific $836 Including Tax, during Christmas $1042

170

Want to go away during Christmas and New Year?

Cathay Pacific appears to be offering sale fares to Shanghai during the Christmas period. Fare are currently on sale for most dates starting October 7. Unsure when offer expires so I've put 31 July. $1042 during Christmas is a wonderful price at peak season!

Depart 07 Oct to late Nov, return from 17 Oct to late Nov = from $836
During December (first 3 weeks) = from $938
During Christmas/New Year (e.g. Dec 23 to Jan 02) = from $1042

All prices include tax and luggage, and all flights are via Hong Kong (usually with a 2 hr stop).
Next comparable airline price is $1338 with Garuda, but with a 2-stop, 30 hr return leg (shudder).
Strangely enough, Perth - Hong Kong on the same Christmas dates is a shocking $2249. So, save $1207 and visit Shanghai instead!

After a few days in Shanghai, you could move around a bit. After all you've traveled this far already! Cheap fares to Japan or South Korea or other places in China can be found from Shanghai, on China Eastern/Southern airlines.

  • Shanghai to Seoul, Korea return is $345 on China Southern (depart Shanghai 28 Dec 09:15, arrive back in Shanghai 02 Jan 12:40, in time for your 17:25 fight back to Perth).

  • Shanghai to Beijing, China return is $353 on China Eastern (depart Shanghai 28 Dec 14:50, arrive back in Shanghai 02 Jan 10:15, in time for your 17:25 fight back to Perth).

  • Shanghai to Osaka, Japan return is $409 on China Eastern (depart Shanghai 28 Dec 12:35, arrive back in Shanghai 02 Jan 11:00, in time for your 17:25 fight back to Perth).

  • Disclaimer: Please note the unlikely possibility of missed connections if those return flights on 02 Jan were to be delayed. Buy travel insurance! (As you should for holidays anyway).

Sample Itinerary:

A reminder that you'll need to obtain a Visa from the Chinese Consulate in Perth if you plan to stay for more than 72 hours.

Please let me know if I've done something wrong or if this isn't a bargain.
Enjoy :)

  • wow. love Shanghai. Once you been to Shanghai you dont wanna come back to the good old boring Perth. Thanks booked.

    • If you speak Chinese and/or join a tour, then yes, I suppose. Try staying in an area away from Nanjing Road, and speaking no Chinese, and it's a different story. :)

Also, to correct the o.p, you don't need a visa if you stay in Shanghai for under 72 hours.

  • "Disclaimer: Please note the unlikely possibility of missed connections if those return flights on 02 Jan were to be delayed. Buy travel insurance! (As you should for holidays anyway)."

Most policies don't cover replacement tickets for missed connections. some policies do cover missed connections caused by a strike or other non likely event, and not the more likely events of airline delays due to mechanical issues etc.
