Is this good value?… 8GB storage, fairly low res QHD display (which is not AMOLED, not even IPS, but TFT!) and only dual core. A little too pricey given it's mid-range (or low end, depending on perspective) specifications.

  • Kogan is selling for $499 + shipping

  • But it's not the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3"
Seems this is the entrée sized Mega.

    • Exactly. There's not much going for the 5.8.

If I had $400 to spend, I would get the Huawei Ascend Mate 6.1, which is priced similarly and has been out since Jan 2013.

      Pros:
      720p display vs QHD
IPS-Plus display (better color accuracy and viewing angles)
Battery is almost 2x as large
Quad core processor vs dual core

      Cons:
      Not dual sim.
      Has a little less RAM
The Australian model has 8GB of NAND but overseas versions have 16GB.

      • $80 more gets you the mega-Mega

        • but $100 less and you get Ultra-Mega-Mega?

        • I thought I looked silly creating a hotspot on my iPhone 4 to use my $69 Kmart tablet [link forbidden].
Now I can look ridiculous. Thank you!!

Regarding the Mate 6.1 - If you wanted more ram, the international versions come with 2GB of ram, but as far as I'm aware it's also more expensive and you have to root it to get Google play (though, some sellers on eBay do this for you).

  • x2; TFT*190 ppi; 1.5g ram; seems more like regressive junk than most things Sam sung~.

  • the more haters on this model the better, it'll sink to a cheap phone with ample screen space for light surfing and videos

  • Anyone know if the S3 LTE is an Aussie stock?

I may get negged for this for just saying the word neg (lol) but I don't really get the point of the mega line. I love the Galaxy Note's because of the inclusion of S-Pen. With no stylus this "not quite a tablet, not quite a phone" purpose doesn't gel with me. The Note pulls it off because it has extra functionality.

But, instead of negging me, perhaps tell me what I'm not understanding about the Mega? :)

    • It is intended for Asian buyers who don't have very deep pockets. in the kind of countries where a$1 will get you a meal.
It is still impressive to look at but without the high end spec and associated price.
The mega and grand models aren't marketed here so just ignore them if they puzzle you that much:)
