  • Can anyone vouch for the quality of these? How does it compare to voice recording functions on a smartphone or tablet?

    • The previous deal on the 512mb sold like hotcakes, see this http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/89337
hundred of ozbargainers will be able to chime in

    • +4

I bought 3 of the 512mb ones and they're great. I keep one at my work desk with the in-ear microphone at the ready whenever a telemarketer decides to call so that i can lead them on and record it. Great fun!

    • +1

Got the previous deal on the 512MB model, works great. I'd recommend this (or a dedicated recorder in general) if you're doing anything more than occasional recordings. Some benefits of a device like this this over a phone / tablet are

      • smaller/lighter/more discreet
      • can be used with external (wired) mic (while the recorder sits in a pocket)
      • can also record via line input
      • no risk of interruption to recording from incoming phone call, notification from another app etc

The telephone mic that came with the previous deal is fantastic for recording phone conversations (I use it at work to record things where I need detailed notes, which I can do after the call by reviewing the recording).

    • +3

I bought the 512MB one during the last deal. Best $7 I spent :)

  • Grabbed a pair, now I can leave 1 permanently in the car! Thanks good deal!

  • AWESOME - perfect timing at start of semester. Hope you can upgrade my 5 order to 6 (one for me to keep at last) cos you know you love me soooooo much ;) thought the first 3 we got at 10ea just for us (fiancee an disabled friend and her partner) were great -this is awesome.

  • +3

Will they be shipped IN their boxes?
Last time the box was emptied, flattened and all the parts put in an envelope… bit weird as the box's entire raison d'etre is to protect the product during storage and transport.

    • +2

Same here, except that because it had been raining the envelope had split and the recorder itself was missing. Only the flattened box, batteries and headphones arrived. Not such a bargain.

    • They do that to save on postage costs.

  • -1

I got a checkout message offering $3 off if I recommended on Facebook. Did all this, no $3 off. Annoying.

  • +1

I really don't need one (let alone two) of these.

And yet I'm finding it REALLY hard to resist purchasing !!

My phone does voice recording really well, and I don't even use it for that as I don't have a need for it.

So why am I about to buy?

It just seems like such good value !!

    • +1

Put one in the draw with your torches to give them some different company.

    • I think they make great little gifts and stocking fillers.

  • Thanx op :)

  • +3

Headphones are good, still working like normal since the last Olin deal (7mths ago). In my opinion it's worth it just for the headphones alone, however it does come with other goodies as well.

  • Bought 4 of these, 2 for backup. Works well enough. No issues. Great bargain IMO.

  • Bought the smaller one last time, it's great for the price. I use it almost daily to record lectures. Have yet to try the in-ear microphone, but the other mic is great for recorded conversations :P.

  • Whats the price for one recorder?

    • +2

$14.99. Just send the money to me and I'll send you one recorder. :)

    • $10, it's in the Gadgets tab.

  • Doh, I just purchased 3 of these the 2 days ago :( Got delivered today, I could have had another one thrown in for the same price.

  • +1

I have three of these things, I think they're fantastic - they do far more than I expected, I can even record from radio on it.

  • How would these go for an interview? Using a lapel mix on each person? Is the quality good enough to use in a video?

  • Wow, damn it OzBargain. I literally have no idea what I would use one of these for let alone two but I just purchased this deal.

EDIT: Also, how is the battery life on these? Probably should have asked BEFORE I purchased..

    • Said 15 hours on the site, I assume it would be at least close to that.

  • +1

Never needed one, don't need one, doubt if I would ever use one even if I had one = so only bought 1 set. Thanks :)

    • same here…..

  • Just out of curiosity, are the voice recorders on these more sensitive/special in comparison to the ones on your average smartphone.

I'm thinking of getting one for lectures/seminars.

    • +1

Can't speak from experience as I don't have one (yet) but this is from the website:

The audio microphone is so sensitive, it will clearly pick up voices in large auditoriums or lecture rooms as well as clearly recording close up interviews.

Not sure if your average smart phone does this but looks like it will do the job you want it for.

    • Does your phone have stereo mic?
      I don't think so.

  • Was $258, now $15, save 95%

  • Bah bought it, disappointed that my $40 Sony recorder had no accessories, no software and no way to export the recording as no USB. Lesson learnt.

  • +1

Purchased 4 of them for $30 & I don't even need one damn Oz bargain!

    • Should have only charge you $28 if you used the +2 additional tickbox at bottom of deal page??

      • thanks sent them an email to correct the issue

  • I bought these a while ago and made a mistake on the web form for my address - this company JungleJumble offers great customer service, they contacted me and re-sent it at no extra cost.

  • Anyone want to sell me one for $7.50? :)

    • PM me and I might be able to.

  • Hi junglejumble,
you never answered my email about not receiving a second recorder with the dvd screen combo, i ordered two but only one came in my order? what the GO?

    Hi,

Received the items however, only received one OVR101 instead of two as per my order... was there any reason for this?

    order included:
    2 x 1GB olin OVR-101 Voice Recorders - $3.00

    very disapointing!

havent bothered chasing it up as its only a buck or so, but still no response is bad! - and making an error in the first palce!)

  • My daughter uses one of these recorders for her music class. It serves the purpose. The quality is not that great (I think the mp3 quality is 96kbs). Good for kids since I won't worry too much if she loses it.

    • You can change the quality of the audio in the settings, put it in super hq = 128kbps mp3.

  • Back in this April with similar deal, I bought 2 of them but NEVER received any. I've yet to chase it up :)

    • +2

That's poor ozbargainning. I could have sold you nothing for free!

  • @Rep
Are you able to offer a similar deal as the one in the past ( http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/103659#comment-1396499 )

But with the 1GB recorders instead

  • I bought a set of 2x, but I won't need both. Any of you in Melbourne CBD interested in buying one off me for $7.50, please let me know.

    • CBD only available pick up?

    • Hi please pm me.

  • Who can give me some good reason to click checkout?

    • If you end up not using them, they can make good xmas presents!

      • +3

        You beat me! bought 5.

  • Is the included ear microphone a stereo microphone with one for each ear?

  • Hi, I need one only. Is there anyone in Melbourne (I am in the south east) who can buy one off me, if I order two…? Thanks….

  • +1

Just received mine. I think they're AWESOME, thanks rep. The functions take a little getting used to but very handy once I got the hang of it. If anybody wants to grab some, they are still available on the website. BTW These are older-styled gadgets, if you grew up with the ifruit types, they may not be to your liking.

  • I ordered these voice recorders (2 for $15.00 delivered) on 3 August 2013. So far have received nothing and no delivery updates. Has anyone else received theirs?

    • I got a shipment notification on the 7th but still haven't received them.

    • I have not received mine either. Ordered on the 2nd of Aug and received shipment notification on the 7th of Aug but no item so far.

  • Folks, I called them and apparently, the main reason was they ran out of Australia Post prepaid envelopes; this is the same issue they faced when they had the original promotion. As weak as the reason sounded, the guy seemed genuine however it does question their quality of customer service for not notifying their customers albeit $15 item. Anyway, apparently Aust Post keeps promising more envelopes by end of the month so we should hopefully start receiving our purchased items.

    • Thanks boomboompow, for the update. First time buying from this company and was a little concerned since they were only coming from NSW.

  • I received my order and they are good voice recorders. I was going to order another 2 but I might wait until they get the previous orders shipped out.

  • I still haven't received mine, it's been 28 days, this is ridiculous.

  • I haven't received mine either. No reply to email query.

  • +1

I have not received my order. Sent them an email and no reply and then created a paypal dispute and still no reply. This is pretty bad customer service. They should not advertise on OzBargain if they know they are not going to be able to meet the demand.

  • Only received them today, totally forgot that I even ordered this. :) now think about how long it took… it is indeed a long time.

  • I contacted them by email 20 days after purchase and got the response about lack of envelopes.

I contacted them again 30 days after purchase to ask if they had envelopes yet and received no response.

I have now received the item, 34 days after purchase.

    • They replied to the email from the 30 day mark just now.

    • Replied to me through offline chat message (on their website) a couple of days ago and I received my item today.

  • never replied to my email, i only got 1 instead of two… let this be a warning to us and on there future deals.

  • Okay, finally. I got mine this week. Geez!

  • Hmm completely forgot about this purchase till I flicked through the Dick smiths catalogue and saw a voice recorder which then jogged my memory!

PS. I haven't received anything yet either!

    • @Winnieblues, how long have you been waiting? Mine took close to two months (I think it might be even more). All I know was it was a genuine surprise when the postman turned up and I scratched my head wondering what the parcel was for as I forgot about the purchase! :) If in doubt, call them.
