When are they bringing back cheap toilet paper again? I'm down to my last brick in my Quilton wall.

    • +1

IGA has a 24-pack of Sorbent for $9.99 this week.

      • I feel 24pk sorbent has worse quality comparing to the 8pk ones, though I know it's not really economy to make toilet paper with different qualities, unless they are produced in separate factories.

    • my local Northland Coles has the 24-pack of Sorbent for $9.99 now,

      • Aldi's 3-ply (24 rolls for ~$9, regular price) is worth considering too.

    • Woolies had 24-pack Quilton for $10 last week…

Bummer… must of missed out. Went in a couple of days ago and it was $12 again.

        • I see what you did there. "Bummer" indeed!

We are all here for a bargain but pay a few dollars more and avoid Reflex.

A bit misleading for 1/2 price
I've never seen reams of paper for $6+
$5 a ream is pretty normal, $4 per ream is considered cheap, $3.50 is definitely a good price but 1/2 price is a bit of an exaggeration.
$4.96 at officeworks is normal price.
Perhaps you can price beat for 5% off $3.49 @officeworks, then use ing paywave 5% rebate.

    • +1

If Coles usually sell it at $7 then why would it be misleading for them to state it's 1/2 price?

      • +2

Caveat emptor. For example Coles "half price in any 4" St Hallett shiraz (supposedly normally $26) can be bought at Dan Murphys for $16.99 usual price.

        • My point isn't that their prices are higher than other retailers.

If you see 1/2 price in a Coles catalogue for an item you wouldn't then look around for the average price and say that's misleading. They have not indicated that the price they are comparing against is from other retailers and have noted that it used to sell for $7 at Coles.

        • +1

          Caveat emptor.

… memories of year 9 commerce just came flooding back.

          Still, good deal.

        • -4

My point is this is OzBargain, not ColesBargain, we're not plebians who believe in full RRP so we should be comparing against readily available market-norm price, meaning every available supplier (retailer) that will sell this product to us consumers (on OzBargain).

If Coles sold 1 ream of this paper @$20 a ream, then claimed 82.5% off, would you still stand by your words and say this is not an exaggeration of a saving, and not misleading?

        • Yes, I would because the point I am trying to make is that it was in their catalogue so they have no need to match other retailers to make a claim of 1/2 off.

I think you are arguing more about how much of a deal or saving this is whereas I am saying that your first statement ("A bit misleading for 1/2 price") doesn't make sense since Coles are claiming 1/2 price on an item that they used to sell at full price ($7).

        • +1

They can claim anything as long as it's factual AND not misleading. I'm pretty sure the ACCC put a stop to tyre retailers claiming huge discounts on RRPs because noone in the industry actually sells tyres for RRP. Just one example of misleading advertising.

Plenty of people will be sucked in by the "huge" discount knowing that Coles can't make such a claim without risking a huge fine, so won't bother checking "average" selling prices. In that regard it could be construed as misleading. Irrespective, what is at stake for Coles is their credibility and the trust they hope to build up with their customers. In the case of the paper - no big deal, in the case of the wine I mentioned above I think they've been caught out. Caveat emptor - or, let cynicism be your friend.

        • ACCC wont have an issue with a retailer who actually sells an item 50 weeks of the year at $7 and then claims their $3.50 sale price is 50% off. If coles usually sold it for $4 and then claimed $3.50 was half price then that would be misleading. Coles' statement is both factual and not misleading. Their regular price is $7, $3.50 is 50% off.

Perhaps you can price beat for 5% off $3.49 @officeworks,

      $3.31

then use ing paywave 5% rebate

      $3.15

So, 34c cheaper than Coles !

      • officeworks might still have free paper :)
        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/106736

      • Not even 34c savings, OW dropped their price to $3.49 and left no chance to OZBers.

        • Good work OW! We still have 5% cash back via ingpaywave… And no 6 per customer limit at officeworks I guess

        • +1

Same 6 reams limit, OW is just matching Coles in every way to avoid loss.

You will get ING 5% cashback in either place, but in Coles you will also get flybuys points + extra double bonus points + fuel voucher and the convenience of buying other household stuff.

The only advantage of buying from OW is it's easily sold out in Coles, but plenty of stock in OW.

Still have about 5 reams left from that staples deal that was posted about 2 years ago. Anyone know what I am talking about?

    • +1

      Yep

    • I think I still have 10 left….

    • +1

Down to 4 reams left :(
So much regret for not ordering more D:

      • aware me of this staple deal

        • +2

          You're about 2 years too late I'm afraid ;)
Although apparently they are running another deal at the moment. Doubtful it's as good as the one being mentioned here. I print a lot and still have about 7 reams left of it myself :D

        • They had a $20 Voucher - 1 per account, ???? accounts per household
No minimum spend - but the voucher can't be used on shipping, so right at the time when Staples was taking over Corporate Express (EXP Branded stuff is CorpExp), they launched this.

    • Yep, almost finished the 2 boxes (2x5 reams i think it was) I got at the time.
2 Distant Ed High School kids go through paper fairly well.
Looks like a few reams from Coles :-)

  • +2

That's what I like to see tightarses still trying to get a better ozbargain…

The last time I bought Reflex 50% Recycled paper from Woolworths it was at $2.50 per ream (March 2013 @ Mill Park, Victoria) - if you're patient I'm sure that Woolworths will sell at this price again.

    • -2

      That's pretty good!
$4.96 for 50% Recycled Reflex from Officeworks - now that is truly half price from Woolworths!

  • Avoid reflex at all costs, very very questionable environmental practices. Such as logging in Victorian native Forrest. Rely on reflex to log native forrests.

  • Reflex used to be THE paper to buy. In fact I remember one business I worked for purchased a photocopier on a lease arrangement - where if you used anything but Reflex, you voided the warranty!

But months ago I bought a ream, and immediately noticed it was a dull grey colour, compared to the other brands. So unless it's changed again recently, Reflex is a really rubbish-looking paper.

    Half-price? Yes, if you're a half-wit.

This is a normal discounted price for 500 sheets, nothing more. It has been seen before. If you're paying close to $7 for 500 sheets you are a moron. Try $5 and under.

Coles 'junk mail' catalogues (Woolworths too) regularly over-inflate their 'half-price' specials which is only half-price to half-wits.

Most shoppers wouldn't know pricing from their elbow. Which is why the practice continues. Nothing new really, we see it from virtually every store, Amazon included.

I normally buy and use Fuji Xerox Paper but I bought 4 reams of this….. I put them side by side and they really do seem exactly the same.
