      Because of sheep like you.

The people who vehemently dislike Apple are far more sheepish than those who like them.

      Apple is number one?

No. 1 in overpricing and false hype!

Can't seem to find detailed specs, I wonder if the screen is 1080p… don't wanna spend 1000+ for a laptop that only has a 1366*768 display

    • +3

There is not a huge difference in performance with the newer chips. There is HUGE difference between 1366x768 and 1920x1080

50% extra battery life isn't huge?

This is a great notebook, much nicer than any MBA, however if you are looking at a VAIO in this price range look at the new Haswell based Vaio Pro 11 & 13. Much better value and will last 10 hours with the new Haswell processors. Well worth the extra $50 - $100

    • Can you explain why it's better value? Seems to have worse processor (i5) and smaller hdd (128gb).

Am interested in getting new laptop so would appreciate the advice.

        10hour batt life bro

Haswell is more energy efficient, and is Intel's latest generation of CPU. The only difference between i5 and i7 is hyperthreading, which for most people doesn't make a difference.

Thanks guys. Learn something new every day.

        • Don't some laptop i5s have hyper-threading? I recall it wasn't so clear cut as the desktop oounterparts.

        • People have told me that the only difference between the i5 and i7 is hyperthreading, what does this actually mean/who does it benefit?

        • Hyperthreading is not supported by that many apps. There are small differences in clock speeds between i5 and i7, but the price differential is not worth it unless you need hyperthreading.

Even Sony themselves advertise as 'up to' 8.5 hrs battery life, where's your 10 hrs coming from?

If you were constantly browsing web pages, watching videos or some editing, 13' would last for 5.5 hrs max.

Having said that, it is probably suffient for most people. Really, not much people will need to use their laptop for more than 10 hrs without a power source.

      • Windows 8.1 and software optimisations in development.

If that's the case, this is Ivy Bridge not Haswell. And the resolution is 1366x768.

I would recommend one of the ones posted in MikeyR's links over this.

I think there's a reason we're not being told the resolution on this machine.
