The A8-5500 CPU is slower than i3.

    http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i3-3220-vs-AMD-A8-5500

For this price I can buy a i5 notebook.

  • Will this run BF4?

    • If u lowered the resolution significantly, then probably

    • It struggles to maintain 30FPS in Crysis 2 and Mass Effect 3 @ 1280×800 with all details set to Low and no AA/AF.
You would get probably slightly lower performance on the Frostbite 3 engine; which is totally unacceptable for multiplayer gaming.

Probably not at any acceptable level. If you add a GPU it should be OK.

Something tells me that the cost of the components would be significantly less than the cost of this offer. I won't neg this deal as I don't have the time to price out all the parts from the likes of MSY, but I have a feeling someone else will.

    Part Price MSY $
    A8-5600K $110
    ASROCK FM2A55M-DGS R2 $58
    4GB RAM $44
    SEAGATE SATA3 1tb $69
    ODD $19
    TP-Link WN851ND $20
Coolermaster Elite RC-335 with PSU $62
Avermedia AVERTV-VOLAR-HD Green Volar HD USB TV Tuner $25
    Windows 8 64bit OEM $108
Microsoft Desktop 600 KB and Mouse $20

    Subtotal $535 + Build Fee $70 = $605

A bit sleep deprived so not sure if there are any errors here. Apologies if there are.

    • I knew someone would come along, thanks for that.

That doesn't include the GPU though does it, or the blu ray drive? Going the other way I think the CPU is one lower and I doubt Medion would put a good PSU like that inside.

Hrmm, maybe it's not as bad as I first thought.

The GPU is integrated. I have in fact left out the blu-ray — the cheapest blu-ray drive you can buy is $54, which is a +$35 difference.

So yes this Medion machine is actually fairly decent value as far as features for money is concerned. I wouldn't mind buying this machine for the parents or something, as it has an Aldi warranty.

        • Thanks for that. I just saw the Radeon 7XXX and assumed discrete, sneaky AMD labelling.

        • The 'D' part is what you need to look for. Also any A6/A8/A10 'APU'.

        • Where and what blu-ray burner can you get for $54?

        • Of course that is only a reader for that price. Chuck in another $20 before you can burn.

    • The other question though is would you get that build anyway? i.e. for that money would you get a build with better components at the same price, or similar components at a better price.

Also, given the single build (volume) model they adopt and therefore you can't customise - and they're not paying a build fee of $70 for every machine, you'd still expect pricing to be a bit better.

        It's how they make money… Medion isn't a charity :)

  • This is a bad time for amd

In theory the apu line can easily develop a hybrid cross fire set up like those seen in amd notebooks but the trouble is the current aX desktop series can't cross fire with the 78xx 79xx series gpu

You won't get benefit of the existing gpu by slotting a 7xxx mid range card inside this box.

As for future hardcore gaming, the two mainstream consoles all gonna use the same amd design meant most likely the amd chipset has performance adventage down the track. A next generation aX series that can do crossfire with 7xxx series gpu would be perfect for a 8xx aud gaming machine. Yet, the third generation apu won't see the light of day til mid 2014.

I look forward for a deal like this one from aldi in the same time next year :)
