  • Sorry, but I cant find this in the catalogue !

    Photoshop ?

  • My network is having difficulties downloading the Victorian catalogue. Would anyone like to share any of the half price specials and other deals of note either in the commments here or by private message.

Thanks for sharing. But I can feel pain from olive growers..

    • This brand I believe is from Spain.

Good price, but not a great bargain if it's not extra virgin. The Moro Extra Virgin for $15 is probably a better buy.

  • We use Carbonell at home and the good oil from my Spanish relos is that it's good oil, but buyers might want to check the manufacture date.

Had been to woolworths cottesloe (WA) just now. This is 50% off starting from Wednesday 21 Aug.

  • Im Spanish and this one is quite good to be honest.

Hopefully, this will make Cobham have a sale again. Cobham is one of the few who weren't busted with dodgy oils ..

Look for the choice article if you're fussy about journalistic sources (or read the Moro thread on OzBargain). There's a good reference to Choice there…

Both Moro and Carbonell were caught repeatedly. Do your homework on this one!

    • Like all Choice tests, read it and then read other reviews or comments. Eg the ALDI oo according to one commenter in the Choice evaluation has been awarded a medal by the Aust OO association but this test basically said it was tired rubbish. Decades ago I bought a top line Olympus SLR camera, rated very highly by most photographic reviewers (Olympus made some of the best lenses available) but Choice's "30 second" appraisal barely gave it a pass mark. Maybe they got a "bad" one, but the test showed they knew little about photography and cameras in any case. I used to subscribe but found a lot of their tests cosmetic - useful to a point, but far from an accurate representation of what might be expected overall from a product. But you can only do so much testing and make conclusions from what you are given.

We have had no problems with Carbonell at all. It won't win awards for taste if you're an oo connoisseur but it's always fresh, smells good, has good colour and importantly doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

What does one do with 4l of extra virgin olive oil?

Cant really fry with it given the low smoke point. Goes rancid pretty easy as well so you would need to be using a lot for it to still be fresh by the time you get tot he bottom.

    • You can fry with it but there are better oils for that. Plenty of uses for oo in cooking, on salads, on bread/toast etc and unless you're living in extreme temps or mishandling it (not sure how you could manage that from a tin) it won't go off for a long time after opening.

      • Google says it should be used the year it is made preferably and will last up to 2 or 3 years if unopened.

Probably not proper extra virgin anyway given this companies past history. Will probably last longer :)

        edit:
        http://www.oliveoiltimes.com/faq/how-long-can-i-keep-a-bottl…
"As long as it’s stored away from heat and light, an unopened bottle of good quality olive oil will be fine for up to two years from the date it was bottled. Once the bottle is opened, it should be used within a few months."
