About time RTG had a 20% coupon again. Thanks to the OP.

  • Not working for me. Tried Grafton NSW for September and shows same price with or without promo code. Went right through up to giving details. Same price as other discount sites.

    • There's only one hotel that comes up for me in Grafton, and it's a "Quality Inn" which is likely a chain excluded from coupon discounts.

The 20% off RatesToGo codes work best with independent or boutique hotels not part of a major chain; I stay about 60 nights a year in hotels, and I've got some great deals using their codes. It always pays to shop around, though, because there's no one site that is consistently the cheapest — I always check about a dozen sites before booking.

      • Probably although there is more than one motel in Grafton, so any that come up I would expect to be eligible. Indeed a banner is displayed saying the discount code will be applied when the hotel is selected.

        • +1

When you do a search using the promo code, all eligible hotels will say "promo code eligible" (highlighted in green below the nightly rate) in the search results.

      • what sites do you normally check? thanks

        • +9
          • ratestogo.com or orbitz.com (only when they have a 15-20% off code)
          • hotelclub.com/visa (~15% off for Visa credit card holders)
          • agoda.com (extra 7% off for Citibank Platinum and above)
          • lmtclub.com (this normally costs US$50 to join, but there are free membership codes floating around; has good rates for certain hotels, particularly in the US)
          • hotels.com (only when they have a 10% off code; discount stacks with 5.4% StartHere cashback)
          • expedia.com (again, only with a 10% off code and stacking cashback with StartHere)
          • priceline.com (using the “name your price” feature; some tips on how to game the system at betterbidding.com)
          • hotwire.com (similar to Priceline above)
          • booking.com (very rarely, but they sometimes have good specials for certain hotels)
          • hotelscombined.com (searches multiple sites at once, which is helpful for getting a general idea of prices)
          • wego.com.au (also searches multiple sites)
          • kiwicollection.com (sometimes good rates on 4/5-star hotels, often with breakfast included and other perks)
          • mrandmrssmith.com (similar to above)

And always check the site of the hotel itself, because they sometimes have better offers than any third-party booking site. (Some are even willing to negotiate directly on price, rather than pay hefty commissions.)

I also have status in most of the major hotel loyalty programmes (Hilton, Hyatt, SPG, IHG, Club Carlson, Accor, Marriott), which gets me free breakfast, upgrades, executive lounge access and late checkout, so often the best value for me is to book direct with one of the major chains. Particularly if I can take advantage of their best rate guarantee, use one of my corporate discount codes (which I can’t share here), use points, or if there's an attractive sale or cashback offer floating around. :)

          Nice summary post.
There's also webjet $50 off over $300, useful when total booking is in the 300-400ish range.

        • thanks, i wasn't expecting such a detailed reply :)

If you know any Accor corporate codes pm me. I got a platinum card and am just weighing up my options. Looking to book something in Melbourne for November.

        • oh i got GHA platinum too :)

        • Am looking for an Accor Corporate code too…please pm me if anyone has one and doesn't mind to share? Thanks heaps

          @electronictomato

nice list - ever tried tingo?
          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/109936#comment-1494830

And always check the site of the hotel itself

some hotels offer fixed-price per night certificates which can be cheaper than paying the actual room cost

@tonester No, haven't tried Tingo before, but it looks promising — I'll add it to the rotation of sites I check. Thanks for the tip. :)

I do know about stay certificates, though — some big savings to be had at certain properties using them, particularly at the high end (e.g. Park Hyatt). Funnily enough, my best ever Park Hyatt deal was booked though RatesToGo last year with a 20% off coupon — the Presidential Suite at Park Hyatt Washington D.C. for $200/night (with BMW 7 Series chauffeur and a la carte breakfast included)! They had mistakenly entered the rate, but they honoured the booking anyway. :)

        • Good summary! This should be added to the travel wiki

  • About time!! Any good ones in Tokyo I should stay?

  • arghh! I made 2 bookings last week for next week and mid September with the 15% coupon.. could of save $100 from both bookings.

    • did those bookings come with free cancellation?

      • Checked that before.. I was going to cancel and rebook.

it's a early bird special and was prepaid..

        Cancellation:

This reservation is non-refundable. Cancellations or changes made at any time are subject to a 100% charge.
If you need to change or cancel this hotel reservation, please do so through RatesToGo rather than through the hotel directly.

Just tried live chat they wont cancel it for me.. grr!

  • Can the code be used with price matching?

    • -1

why don't you find out and tell us.

    • Hotel's which offer a price match guaranteed normally exclude to price match any site offering a cheaper price via coupon.

Singapore hotels cost so much :(

    • When are you booking for Singapore GP coming up so prices will be expensive.

    • Google search for Mayo In n in Singapore.
      Affordable and quite good :)

    • -1

I booked at the Hard Rock Singapore at Sentosa Island when the resort itself had a 50% off promo, and stancjed it with a 20% off at rates to go code in May. Stayed there for about 140 a night. Looking at it today they are asking 600+ for a single night!

  • edited was down for few minutes. nevermind.

  • Their best rates policy doesn't include prices hotel club lol,
Does Hotel club charge more for booking fee or something? or will
    hotel club always be cheaper?

  • The timing is perfect!!!
The Hotel.com site was charging in USD so was going to sting me a fee and they were more expensive than booking directly!!
I booked my usual hotel and got a $60 discount using this code.
Special thanks to the OP :)

    Nice :)

  • Checked rates against Agoda. After the discount it was still a little more expensive :|

  • Just booked a night at a Parkroyal and the code worked! Thanks OP.

    • melbourne? That is same place i booked for sep17 last week with the 15% coupon.

what rate did you pay and which room ?

      • I booked for a Superior Queen room at the Darling Harbour Parkroyal Sydney.

  • Already booked a non-refundable hotel room from Hotels.com a while back. Good thing is, they've got price match guarantee! Price-matched and happy! That's why I like Hotels.com for most things, also remember there's BucksBack 5% rebates for that and HotelClub, not for Rates To Go I think?

  • Code expired already!

"We're sorry but limited numbers of this promotion code were available for redemption and the limit has been reached."

    • when does it give this message?

      • appears code can still be used. deal reactivated.

        • Example?

        • example:

          go to deal
type in sydney, 6/9/13 to 7/9/13
type in GREAT20 in promo code box
          search

says 'congrats, you have entered a valid code'

works in other places around the world on other dates too.
