Pre-Owned Playstation 3 60GB console for $679

63

Just saw this in EB. Remember this is the 60GB model, so it's backward compatible with playstation 1 & 2 games (unlike the current 80GB models). Heck they probably got these consoles from people who traded in the 60GB model.

A quick search on ebay are they go for well over $700.

  • I'd rather buy a new ps3 (with new lens + motor) and a new ps2 plus the accessory thats on sale at eb at the moment for 25$ which gives u back the memory card and 2 usb slots. Price will be a little bit more but at least everythings new and I get the same functionality

  • It does come with 12 months warranty

  • Oh yeah, why didnt i think of that. Just buy a new ps2 including extra "conroller" (sic), and a new 40gb ps3 from GAME for $700 total instead.
    Hah, conroller. :D

  • NOT A BARGIN
New unit with games is Cheaper
    New Warranty
    New Laser
Ebay is not a valid bench Marking for pricing.
    More Reliable Unit

  • How could this be a bargain when JB is selling a NEW PS3 plus more for $699????

  • Before you all crucify this offer, remember the 60Gb PS3 is not in the same price league as the (new) 40/80gb models. It is rare these days to find one, I think you neg voters are missing the point of this.

True it may be better to buy a new 40/80gb model and a PS2…but don't neg the deal, its still a find.

  • Don't compare the 60gb model to the current models that being sold. The new ones do not support playstation 1 & 2 games. Also, the point about buying another ps2 for the price difference, you'll be missing out on the upscaling of those games.

    • pretty sure all PS3's support PS1 titles. It's the PS2 ones which arent supported anymore and in the 60GB one is only done in software in Australia.

  • +2

Personally I'm going to say it's "not" a great deal but I'll say why.

Firstly its second hand and selling for more than you can get a new PS3 for. Sure it's PS2 backwards compatible but your not getting any of the games that that newer one comes with either.

The other big "BUT" here is that it's not alot more expensive to get both the PS3 and the PS2, especially if both are second hand (and if your into this deal you obviously dont mind second hand consoles). Given the Australian PS3's only use software emulation on the PS2 games you will find having a PS2 far more reliable than relying on the emulation in this console. It's a feature thats nice to have, but I don't think it's at a level where I'd want to pay extra for which is clearly what your doing in this case.

Also as far as I was aware 40gigers could still play PS1 games. It's just PS2 ones that had the issues around them. Ohh and it may well list as $700 on Ebay but I'd just mark that down with a negative for the same reasons ;). Keep in mind Sony just announced a price drop on the PS2 overseas so that could mean a drop here soon too. I still think the PS3 is due for one any week now also.

I only think it's a good deal if you absolutely MUST have the PS2 support in the same console and for whatever reason won't buy them both separately.

I'm not even sure if you get a Dual Shock 3 or a Sixaxis controller.

  • You also can't use ps2 or ps1 memory cards on ps3s that have backwards compatibility without an adapter, which is a hassle unless you like starting over from scratch.

hey morons, this PS3 is far superior to the PS3 you see in stores today. If you don't know why, you shouldn't of ever commented in this thread.

    • So exactly how is it "Far superior"? It has a few extra USB ports and a partially working backwards compatibility implementation while costing more than you can get a new one with games. It's hardly "far superior" unless you place a lot of value in that PS2 software emulation.

        • playstation 3 60 GB Playstation 3 40 GB
        • 60 GB Hard drive 40 GB Hard drive
        • Blu-Ray Compatible Blu-Ray Compatible
        • 4 USB Ports 2 USB Ports
        • Memory card reader (4 in 1) No Memory card reader
        • Playstation 1 and 2 compatible Playstation 1 compatible only
        • so 100% what I mentioned already bar the card reader?

edit: Keeping in mind the defacto is now an 80GB if your fussed over that.

and for the record I'm not saying its worse either…just it isnt a great deal better and especially not at that price point. If it was a US one with hardware emulation sure but not the AU stock.

        • you've heard of a 80gb ps3 right? LOL!

    • hey dude, why dont u get a pre-owd ps2 + new ps3 80gb instead? it is maybe $100 extra but 100 times better than this deal.

  • Ok feel I have to step in here, some bullies who don't even know enough.

Not the best deal, but still better than eBay! Negative vote from me if I could vote. They won't have any stock, any on their database are either faulty or mistakes.

It's way old too, was on ecogamer from November. As mentioned before the new ps3's are more reliable with less blu-ray laser troubles. You can pick up a 40GB for $499 at certain retailers.

The new PS3's run on a 65nm process thus saving power.

PS2 Upscaling is overrated! Check google for yourself.
It's too bad lots of PAL PS2 games missed progressive scan though. However to fix that get a Swap Magic and the NTSC game copies that support progressive or 1080i (ie. GT4/Tourist Trophy which aren't even backwards compatible).

Therefore all you're missing is 2 USB + Card Reader… which I posted here, which noone heeded.

As mentioned for the 60GB you'll need a memory card adapater. If you have a 60GB congratulations, but sorry to make it clear, it's not actually better.

  • Agree that it's not a good deal for the majority of people.

Yes there may be people who want to purchase this particular PS3, but for the majority of people, a PS3 is a PS3 is a PS3. It just makes no sense to buy a second hand PS3 with less storage when the asking price is that high.

Someone pointed out that for that price you can almost buy a brand-new PS3 and a brand-new PS2, and definitely can buy a second hand PS3 and a second hand PS2.

Maybe we should look at the old PS3 as a collector's item, some people are willing to pay a premium for it, but for most people it's not a bargain, even if it's on special.

    • agree. this deal should not appear here, I mean.
what's the point of buying a PS3 that has been used for a such unreasonable price.
I guess people who have tasted PS3 games would no longer insist with performance of PS2.

p.s. if you are a fan of Final Fantasy, it is coming for PS3 this year and now PS3 console is for sale with a good deal in EB ($685 = console + 2 games(killzone2 +???cant remember.)

  • Lots of cheaper deals available….

  • That's way too dear. The backwards compatibility isn't that great as the quality of most of the PS1 games is fairly poor. Also not all PS1 games work on the PS3's. I'd rather wait for a better deal such as a brand new PS3 with some extra games and hold onto my PS2 so I get the best quality playing all my older games. If you are like me and have a large PS1 and PS2 game collection you would be better off holding onto your PS2 console. The PS2 consoles are fairly cheap and often there are deals with extra games.
