Stumbled across this deal on my daily internetting:

Samsung MZ-7TD250BW 250GB 840 Series Basic 7mm Ultraslim Solid State Drive
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EPFKL0A

£39.92 [$70 AUD] for each unit. Shipping cost to Sydney was £11.53 [$20 AUD] for me, but I ordered two. Note that price on the site includes VAT and 20% VAT will be taken out at check out.

Kind of a suss product entry with such a cheap price (this Samsung SSD goes for ~$200 locally) and generic description, but it's being sold BY Amazon UK so they don't charge until they ship.

Have at it!

  • Daaaaaaaaamn this is $100 more at MSY

  • isnt it supposed to have -20% VAT since its not sold in the UK?

    • OP already factored that in.

  • Bought two as well, lets see how this goes.

  • Great find Op! Anything on the 500gb?

    • +1

Nope, cheapest I've seen it for is £288 at this Amazon seller.

      • +2

I've been waiting for 250gb SSD's to fall to around a $100 for ages, Thanks op :) Lets hope amazon does what Kogan did with his mugs - honor it begrudgingly and whinge about ozbargain for all eternity

  • it's 47.9 now

    • You don't pay VAT

      • Got it, thx

    • The price hasn't changed; £39.92 is the price after VAT is subtracted (no need to pay this for exported shipments).

  • Thanks OP. Great post! Another day, another ozbargain purchase.

  • Bought 2, total AU $160 . YAY!

  • Estimated delivery: 26 Sep 2013 - 12 Oct 2013?
does it normally take that long for delivery? from UK to Australia?

    • +1

It does if they are waiting for new stock.

  • +1

    bought 1 lets see… priority states 25 Sep 2013 - 8 Oct 2013, not worth the extra…

  • thanks, ordered 2 as well

  • +2

I think this may be a pricing error but I'll bite.

    • any experience with amazon price error?
do they normally honor it? or just credit refund?

    • Same. The other listings on Amazon are £128 for the same SSD with the same product code

Bought one since it is so cheap… will see if it is honoured

  • :( paid 190$ last week for the new release EVO version. Not sure it worth 100$ extra T_T

    • +4

Well one is real and the other could be imaginary. So yeah, it could be worth the extra cash you paid ;-)

    • One more note hikack. When purchasing from overseas like that I think you are responsible for return freight on warranty claims in both directions.

NOTE - This may have changed with the ACL back in January 2011 (or a later amendment). I usually skim the international section of the amends because the company I mange returns for does not ship or buy from overseas.

NOTE - If a fellow OzBargain member can not clarify within 24 hours ill do some digging for everyone.

NOTE - At least it is one of the most reliable SSD's that I have had the pleasure and / or displeasure of working with since the Intel 520 series back in mid to late 2012 ( this is definately before the 8MB firmware crash)

      • I wouldn't think ACL applies to Amazon since it isn't an Australian company.

  • -1

guess this is the normal version?

    not EVO or PRO?

    • as far as I know EVO has taken over the normal which is now EOL which might explain the price

  • just remember accoding to the model number its drive only and doesnt include the installation kit:

    Capacity 250 GB
    Drive Only MZ-7TD250BW
    Drive and Installation Kit** MZ-7TD250KW
Type of Drive Solid State Drive (SSD)

    • The kit seems to just be a SATA cable and a sata-usb cable. Not really much to consider. A perfectly acceptable SATA III cable is less than $5, and the adapters aren't expensive either.

  • +2

    What is this one then?

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-MZ-7TD250BW-Series-Basic-Ult…

Most probably a mistake, but I ordered a couple anyway.

    • That one is out of stock so Amazon forced me to buy OP's linked one. No idea what to do with these yet but I'll cross that bridge when/if these arrive.

  • Bought two also, very nice find

  • One was enough for me. I'll move my 120GB to my HTPC and put the 250 in here. Hopefully the Samsung software can make it a breeze.

    • +4

      You assume it will arrive?

  • +9

    Broden just exploded.

    • Thought about Brodening it :)

      • +1

prepare to see ebay flooded with these if Amazon Honors the deal

  • +1

Ordered one…. Before I convince myself 120gb ssd is enough and has been using one for 2 years. Damn impulse buy…

    • +1

MSY had the Plextor 120g ssd on sale $89 on thurs-Fri. I'm glad I resisted buying that!!

      • Yeah i bought 1 from msy…May have to return for refund if these are hounered.

  • +3

    ordered one too

    in for a cancellation email

    • +1

      we dont pay VAT.

        • +7

it would be more wise to read through the comments (post 4) first before posting.

  • +10

Props to the OP for posting it. He probably had a chance of getting one if he didn't post it here, but that's unlikely now after 11 gazillionty orders from Ozbargain.

    • "Gazillionty" lol.

      • yea its Gazillion + ty(thank you)

  • +1

Don't really need these but in the spirit of a bargain I'll take two!

    I have until 26 Sep 2013 - 12 Oct 2013 to find a use for them.

    • If you don't have an SSD already, you could.. you know.. use one!

I plan on using this one and shifting my old kingston 60gb ssd on to my dad's computer to give it a new lease of life.

  • Purchased 2 as well. :)

  • Now this one is a bargain worthy of OZbargain 'legend' :)

250GB should be enough for most PCs and the 840 is no power hungry at all.
They are flocking these 840 series off to make way for the EVO series.
EVen with an older gen controller, the 840s performance should be another 12 to 18 before 250 GB drives get down to such price levels.. :)

    • Might want to make sure it arrives before making such sweeping declarations ;-)

      • I am typing on a notebook running the same drive as primary drive and a secondary traditional HDD in the ODD bay.

so I can pretty much confirm it works as I had it since feb this year. win 8 boot up time is 20 seconds on adv (CoreI5 gen 2 8G system). HDD score 8.1

The EVO has a better controller hence faster write speed with new features and offcourse the best is the powerful Pro series.

        • I was referring to this:

Now this one is a bargain worthy of OZbargain 'legend' :)

I have an 830, so I believe you regarding the benefits of SSD's - you're preaching to the choir.

    • +1

I've been using an 840 since July. It hits desktop in 30secs (POST beep at 8secs) and is instantly useable. Love it

    • That's quite optimistic. I am taking this as a pricing error.

  • Hmm.. let's see if it works or not. Dunno if I'm game to try as I really don't even need it haha.

  • I'm in…

My C2D is getting a bit long in the tooth and I can't justify upgrading to IB/Haswelll. Hopefully this breathes new life into it. :D Assuming it ships. :P

    Cheers OP.

    • It does. Outlook 2010 went from 45+ seconds to less than two. Still takes half a minute to download messages, but that is the 'net and other peoples servers.

  • Grabbed one, fingers crossed! (thanks!!!)

  • grabed a couple, nothing debited from the credit card yet??

    • Amazon don't debit, until they ship..

  • Joined the cancellation queue. May as well try our luck.

  • Thanks so much OP! Ordered 2. Let's hope they honor it.

You can raid 2 250GB HDDs to make them as one of 500GB somehow right?

  • Not Yet Dispatched: 1 item - delivery estimate: 25 Sep 2013 - 8 Oct 2013

    • -6

      Mine says - Estimated delivery: 26 Sep 2013 - 12 Oct 2013

      • +10

Mine says - Estimated delivery: Never

        • -1

That's no good, maybe give them a call…

  • Ordered a couple - worth trying at this price.

  • can these been mounted inside laptops as a bootable hdd?

    • yeap

      • +2

Can I mount this in my new Nexus 4, so I can enjoy all my media through my new Philips Downtowns? Lol!

        • No. But you will be able to on iPhone 5s

        • +1

Can the iphone 5s also tie my shoes? if not I don't want to hear any more of it.

        • +1

          there's an app for that

    • Yes.

  • +1

Brought 2, can't resist the price

  • Bought a couple, but its hard to see Amazon honouring if so many people order it. (assuming some brodens among us will order 10+..)

    • Brodenette here. When I saw that it was only 12 pounds shipping no matter how many I put in my cart, I ordered 3.

  • Here's hoping. Loved it when the macbook retina i had had a 500 gb ssd. Have a 128gb octane which fills up quick so this would be great if they honor it.

  • this price is insane

  • Many thanks to OP. Great Find! Lets see if they honour this deal
Like jackau said above, many places are offloading these basic models on the EVO release.
Still a great price even so.

  • Bought one. Was thinking lately with all the ssd bargains that I should have bought the 120gb 840 non-pro about half a year ago when it was $90. This sounds so much better… if it works.
Does anyone know what amazon will do if this was a mistake?

    • Depends, if they have a flood of orders they may choose to cancel all the orders or they may wear it for those order 1 or 2 and cancel those order larger quantities. We'll see soon enough.

      • Yeah being a big company they may put it though being their mistake, or cancel them all :(

  • -7

Guys, dont need to be panic if you lost this chance. You will see ebay selling it soon at around the same price :P We will need to say thanks ahead to those who broden it :)

    • NOOOOOO, :( prices went up ?

EDIT: LOL read that but totally sleep deprived. Sorry ahahhaha

    • That was explained above. We don't pay VAT

      • -1

        That was explained above.

If it was explained in the description, there would be less people asking this question…

Some people don't bother reading through every comment in a post, they just read the deal and click on the offer…

        • -1

          Forget it mate, its chinatown.

    • No it didn't, we don't pay VAT and the price will change when you checkout as mentioned 1214 times above.

    • -2

My bad, once you login, you will see is EUR 47.90
