Price Error] Samsung 840 250GB SSD - £39.92 ea + £11.53 Shipping (~ $70 ea + $20 AUD) Amazon UK

Moved to Forum: Original Link as this is a price error on Amazon UK. See chat record with support staff and example of cancellation email.

Stumbled across this deal on my daily internetting:

Samsung MZ-7TD250BW 250GB 840 Series Basic 7mm Ultraslim Solid State Drive
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EPFKL0A

£39.92 [$70 AUD] for each unit. Shipping cost to Sydney was £11.53 [$20 AUD] for me, but I ordered two. Note that price on the site includes VAT and 20% VAT will be taken out at check out.

Kind of a suss product entry with such a cheap price (this Samsung SSD goes for ~$200 locally) and generic description, but it's being sold BY Amazon UK so they don't charge until they ship.

Have at it!

  • I wonder how much it has cost Amazon in staff time to rectify this? Probably not much if its all automated.

    • +1

Yeah i'd say all done off an automated script

  • Got a Cancellation email anyone else ?

    • +1

If you read up above the many cancellation emails that's been posted in the thread already you will see the answer is yes

    • +10

      that's new

      • -1

Harsh, I was just posting to show that I got the same :P

  • Are people reposting the letter over and over again because they think it's helpful? Is it ignorance or are we being trolled here?

    • +4

People are just screwing around for fun/

      • ah a third option, i suppose it's my own fault for jumping to conclusions

        carry on :P

  • -7

Your order has now been cancelled. If you still want to purchase this item, please place a new order which will be charged at the correct price, when we dispatch it to you.

I will speak to my lawyer lol..

  • +3

what am i going to do with the 10 bay nas drive i ordered to fit all my ssd drives! f u amazon

    • +1

      whoa, tough crowd!

    • You can use your NAS drive to store 10 tea plates in the mean time…

    • Trying to set the record for most negs, huh?

      • You should look that up actually, I don't see anyone being flamed like that anytime soon. I'd link you, but I'm my phone

In protest, I'm going to stop buying their free ebooks…

Hit them in their hip pocket I say !!!!

    • +3

      We Are Anonymous… ┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐

    • Or what you can do jv, is to buy 1,000,000 copies of their free ebooks and make Amazon broke. Muahahaha.

      • His ISP would die before Amazon

  • Such as shame. Was worth a shot though.

  • I bet amazon cant wait until this whole mess fades away…

Another example of a sense of entitlement. These people think just because they didn't get what they wanted at the price they wanted they should be getting a gift credit as compensation. No they're not entitled to any thing.

  • -8

Sorry about that, I asked for the chatlog to be removed, bottom line I got them to match the original price and my order was dispatched this morning.

    • +4

      screen shot proof

    • +6

They were out of stock for me so I got them to price match a pink unicorn which poops out jelly beans instead. They even threw in a flying pig goodwill.

      • +1

what do you want 4 the pig? :P

        • wow, are you able to provide your order number?

        • -1

          I don't think so.

        • Order placed on the 2nd of September

        • +2

LOL you place the order on the 02/09 when amazon already sending cancellation email with their "warmest regard".
The price was change back to the correct price on the 01/09.

        • -2

Yes I placed the order at the request of the amazon chat rep after they agreed to provide the item in the above order at the original price after they cancelled my order and I objected. Plain and simple package just left Germany BTW

      • Unicorns come in pink?

There is no limit to what i learn on OB…

  • -1

Isn't that going to be as incriminating as the chatlog???

    • let it go

  • At least now I am richer by $160 , thanks amazon

    • +2

      You're also 2 SSD's poorer.

      • -1

do you believe that I dont know why I ordered them!
is the thing buy first ask later disease

    • +6

No-one 'parted' with their money, Amazon doesn't charge until the item ships

    • +3

"Seems like"?? You know that's a quote, stop tryna be smart.
No one lost a cent- money isn't taken from your account until shipping so your statement is moot ;)
"At least I…" anymore pearls of wisdom Solomon :P

    • +4

      At least I realized

Seems you didn't realise that this isn't an American site. As for the rest of your post, wow, what a disaster.

    • +3

And you generously waited to share your wisdom until well after it was revealed, plus you failed to realise that most of us assumed this but figured it was worth the gamble, especially, as issh mentions, because Amazon doesn't even charge until the item is dispatched.

      No really, you're awesome.

      • If Amazon would have honor the deal his/her answer would have been: "At least I realized this offer was too good and bought 2"

    • At least I realized this offer was too good to be true.

Whats it like possessing the skillset to realise some offers are too good to be true without failure?

My recent acquisition of Game of Thrones season 1 and 2 delivered for about $23 total from Fishpond wouldn't have occured had I used your skillset to determine it "was too good to be true".

    • +4

I have bought many bargains via this site that are certainly "too good to be true" and most defy the sister phrase "you get what you pay for" as well.

The very raison d'etre of Ozbargain is to get far more for the dollar than the average lemming, so yeah, I can safely say I have received much more "than I paid for" with nearly every deal I have bought. Some have been remarkable - perhaps a tenth of retail for some seriously decent items. Limited dull expectations will yield limited, dull results.

And finally, no one likes a smart-arse, so what was the actual point in posting?

      • The very raison d'etre of Ozbargain …

Exactly, i agree with whatever that means.

I have often ordered on a highly suspected 'pricing error', and it's come through.

Though not for that Loony Tunes DVD set - that was a bugger…

    • Seems like a fool and his cash are easily parted,…

      I repudiate this assertion outright.

I am not a fool, yet i am easily parted with my cash.

crazy. you got lucky. good on ya. i'd just be happy to see ssds back down to their old prices. and back on the downward trend! looks like they were on one from my research then went up over the last 6months maybe.

    • wahhh, amazon actually dispatched the order?

    • +2

It's fake.. The price is wrong and some of the text looks edited.

      • -1

if it is it's very good job cos looks very real to me. price looks right from memory. and none of text looks edited to me. which bit exactly?

        • haha I didn't even notice that. Looks like he matched the ex vat price of the first order with a pre vat price on the second so it took another 20% off see if I had photo shopped it at least I would have made the price the same.

          Hello XXXX,

          Greetings from Amazon.co.uk

Further to your request I have now edited your price on your new order#XXXXXXXX as promised during our chat conversation.

Once your order is sent you'll receive an e-mail confirming the date, contents and method of delivery.

If you don't get your e-mail confirmation by September 04,2013 please let us know by replying to this e-mail and we'll investigate.

        • Here is another screen grab

          http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/6689/jtfp.jpg

Let me know what else you want to see :)

        • Alright, I'm still not entirely convinced with the pricing, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. I said it looks like it's edited due to the grey area around all the text/images. If you're taking a screen shot, the image should be very clear - not pixelated like yours is. It looks like you just cut/paste + added the images/text from another source. There's no reason why it should be pixelated.
But yeah, I could be wrong but I'm still not convinced.
Out of curiosity, could you tell me what digit your order number starts with and ends with?

        • -1

shading around text isn't unusual, happens when you save an image at a lower resolution. it was edited to trim/black out, so isn't an original screen shot.

        • Hm yeah, fair enough, I remember that's happened to me before too. Alright then, I guess it is legit. Good job

        • +3

Or he just edited it in chrome using the inspect element function which is very simple.

        • Delivery estimate Friday 6th of September with standard shipping……………….

        • +1

It's really not going to make a difference what I post but here is a nice higher res shot, btw I don't have chrome installed.

          http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/7769/1k3w.jpg

        • So what was your secret, what line of reasoning did you use to get them to honour the old price?

Yours is already on it's way now so it won't disturb your order if we try to use the same tactics to get ourselves one.

          Share the love bro!!!

        • +1

Of all things to never happen ever, this never happened the most.

        • +2

I used shameful shameful tactics that i am not willing to post here but bottom line the rep made a comment about usually proving a price match on a similar item but was not available from supplier. I pointed out they were selling the exact same model ssd it was instock just more expensive he asked for the URL gave it to him he then told me to place an order and he would adjust the price and now it is currently sitting in Hong kong .

        • +3

OK last one here is a scan of invoice from the package.

          http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/1109/qprl.jpg

        • I think you are one very lucky individual.

          Congrats mate.
