Price Error] Samsung 840 250GB SSD - £39.92 ea + £11.53 Shipping (~ $70 ea + $20 AUD) Amazon UK

Moved to Forum: Original Link as this is a price error on Amazon UK. See chat record with support staff and example of cancellation email.

Stumbled across this deal on my daily internetting:

Samsung MZ-7TD250BW 250GB 840 Series Basic 7mm Ultraslim Solid State Drive
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EPFKL0A

£39.92 [$70 AUD] for each unit. Shipping cost to Sydney was £11.53 [$20 AUD] for me, but I ordered two. Note that price on the site includes VAT and 20% VAT will be taken out at check out.

Kind of a suss product entry with such a cheap price (this Samsung SSD goes for ~$200 locally) and generic description, but it's being sold BY Amazon UK so they don't charge until they ship.

Have at it!

ordered, thanks op. Just search amazon's news, and it is sad that they canceled order before, which is also mis-priced.

That's from 2003. You went deep into the archives for that one. Good find

      • +1

and to think that 2003 was only 10 years ago

      • didn't pay attention to the date, hope amazon will be honored this time

    • Jeez, 10 quids for an iPad of yesteryear. It would of been ozbargained in 10 secs, if we as a community existed back then.

  • damn… OP, u made me bought two. thank you and hate you!

  • I'm going to bed, but inb4 shitstorm of people bitching when Amazon cancel the orders

  • +2

My guess is this is the 120GB price.

  • not liking our chances, i mean if this was a clearance item someone else would have a similar price, on SI it's just under $180, no one comes close…

  • Ordered one as well, fully expecting them not to honor it but oh well

    • You never know, they might be clearing manufacturer stock for the EVO series ?

  • PLACEHOLDER THREAD*

    • this thread is reserved for all complaints that amazon.co.uk did not honor this deal
    • +4

I thought you're comment with like 15 negs was your placeholder comment…

professionals, what kind of compensation can I expect, if any?

    • +1

They sometimes give out a $10 voucher if they made a pricing mistake. It's not guaranteed though.

    • -6

Is there really such a thing as an OzBargain professional? I would hate to imagine what one would look like.

    • +1

I've been involved in two Amazon Pricing errors… no compensation was awarded for either

      • So why the neg? It hasn't been deemed a price error yet. Some chats even saying it will be honored. You have only made 1 comment on this thread, and you gave it a neg vote 2 minutes ago.

        Don't see the reasoning here?

        • it wasn't intentional.. I don't know how to un-neg

        • Go to this link.

Up the top it will say "revoke". Click that.

    help please

Comparing to eBay, Is it possible
someone opens up an account, selling some fake item, gets a good money out of poor people and disappears?

    lets do basic math
Someone has an item doesn't show up in amazon search
Has got one review-apparently by themselves-
Posts it in some bargain websites
Just from here has 10000, each 2 average $160; 3,000,000 AUD, one night!

If so can we get back our money?

    • Short answer: no.

        Long answer: no way

        • even longer answer:hell no way!

    • Nooooo. Not more Anil jokes at 2:30am

    • No, I'm sure this deal is just some error. I'm only in it for the discount voucher they give as compensation.

      • +7

MODS: please change title to "register your interest for a potential £5 voucher at amazon.co.uk"

      • +1

Some people are so sure they will give out gift vouchers that they bought 3500!

"Bought 3500, trading for $5 Amazon GC each."

  • Thanks OP. Ordered 2. Hope it's not a Father's Day joke.

    • Amazon should be big enough to honour the 500 Aussie orders they received today ;)

      • +3

500? Try a few thousand plus another few thousand from slickdeals.

    • +1

Father's Day is June 15 in the UK.

  • Damn… bought the Plextor 128GB today but could resist to order two 840s at this price!

Looks like the EVO has now officially superseded the 840. Feel sorry for the Aussie stockists still trying to extort money out of Aussie customers.

Suggestion: try to offload all 840 stock ASAP! ;)

  • Bought one just on the off chance!

    • Looks like you purchased the last one

  • tried to order
amazon told me no longer available

    • Just tried again and fail at my end as well. Either out of stock or realised their error

      / puts kettle on

  • We're sorry. The item Samsung MZ-7TD250BW 250GB 840 Series Basic 7mm Ultraslim Solid State Drive is no longer available from the seller you selected. To see if it's available from another seller, click here to return to the item's product detail page.

  • sold out?

    • Was sold out way sooner, they probably have sold out of $5 gift vouchers. xD

      • 5 pounds voucher.
        Ozbargained!

  • Early bird misses the worm :(

  • Damn it missed out. Darn you sleep deprived ozbargainers.

  • +3

Why oh why did I go to bed early last night :(

  • How can it be OOS when it was never in stock?

    • +2

Presumably they've done that to stop more orders being placed or if it is a genuine price, there may have been a pre-allocated amount which they've now hit. As much as I want this to be real, my guess is that we should be seeing the 'sorry we've screwed up, do you want to pay more or cancel' emails shortly.

  • No cancelled email yet. This could just be a genuine clearance liquidation. Fingers crossed

    • +1

I hope I get the three I ordered too, but it seems awfully unlikely that it wasn't a mistake. It would make no sense to slash the 250GB models from 129 pounds to 48 pounds but keep the 120GB models at 76 pounds.

  • +2

OMG I just woke up to this. I fell asleep 20 mins before this got posted. I wanna cry.

    • +13

      You Snooze, you lose… ;)

  • I ordered 2 from this deal. I have ordered the 840 Evo as well from shopping express. I am thinking should i cancel the shopping express order and wait for this. What is the probability of getting this order fulfilled. I will say 5% at the max. What's everyone's opinion.

    • +13

Why are you asking questions without a question mark.

      • +16

He's not asking a question, I think he's summarising his life story.

      • +7

You just did the same thing.

        • Because he already has an inverted ¿

        • Accidently negged your comment, ment to up vote it. Sorry!

        • +2

Click on votes under the comment, you can remove your neg but you won't be able to + though.

        • +4

          Woosh.

I thought it was an obvious poke at the OP, but I guess not.

    • +1

chances are that you end up with nothing.

      • i would say the chances are the same as RBA interest rate atm.

    • +1

What is the probability of getting this order fulfilled. I will say 5% at the max.

      I'm a bit more optimistic, I reckon 6.25%

  • +1

Keep checking guys. When Amazon cancelled, or I should say when the seller cancelled my order on Amazon, Amazon did NOT send me anything. The order simply disappeared from my orders, and the money came back to my Cc a few days later.

    • Probably that order was not being fulfilled by Amazon, but another seller.

  • +3

Looking back at the link now, I think it was just missing a 1 at the start

  • +2

Ordered one drive last night and received email confirmation soon after but I've just checked my account and looks like my order has disappeared, oh well.

I hope people don't start negging the OP.

    • +7

this will happen if you log into USA amazon (amazon.com) as apposed to amazon.co.uk which is where you woulda ordered it from! logon to .co.uk and u should see ur order

      • Thanks Gavman, you are indeed correct :)

      • You're right. You can also just click the order in the confirmation email and if you're already logged into Amazon (any country's Amazon), the order page will pop right up. Mine is still there, but "Not yet dispatched."

  • +2

Well i can't see Amazon honouring this price. It's obviously a massive pricing error. I reckon they missed out a 1 and it's supposed to be £139.92. They've probably already begun cancelling the orders.

    • -1

Amazon aren't that proactive about cancellations in my experience

      • They are with the PS4 international pre-orders.

  • Hmmmm, assuming this was an actual deal with no error, I wonder how much stock they had and if they can make the demand of thousands of orders.

If they didn't have enough stock and resorted to shipping only what they had, what would the cut off be :| I read this deal at +15 votes, pretty much bought it straight away, then came back to read comments and it was already +111.

  • It's a amazing what a feeding FRENZY!!! a bit of cheap geek tech causes! If you buy a couple spares to resell on ebay or whatever, you'd probably make approx $50-60ea after fees. Plus the time taken to list, pics, pack and ship. That's of course if the purchase is actually honoured and arrives.

  • Was up last night by coincidence just after this deal was posted. Had to resist buying because I may well be in another state/location when it arrives.

    • similar position, moving house soon. but also i had a hunch it wasn't legit - just a pricing error. So I held out, hopefully will see another good deal in the future

  • Well, ordered one yesterday, hoping the cancellation emails don't come ;)

    • +4

These people in this thread are deluding themselves if they think that Amazon UK are going to honour this pricing mistake. I reckon the cancellations most likely will come. Here's an example of a pricing mistake from Amazon UK where all the orders got cancelled the following day. So yes Amazon UK does cancel orders from pricing mistakes.

      http://slickdeals.net/f/5765550-Transformers-Masterpiece-Opt…

  • I see people at slickdeals ordering hundreds, one dude (Broden?) ordered 3500 trying to cash in on gift cards.

    • +6

If they decide to give gift cards (and that's a bloody big 'if') then it would be one per order, not one per item in the order.

It would be unreasonable to expect Amazon to honor the deal or gift that many gift cards. It's an obvious pricing error.

That said, I ordered 2 of them and really hoping to get them.

      • -1

        ^This.

    • +1

yeah sure someone who has a credit card limit over $30,000 is trying to scam giftcards.

      • Money isn't deducted until order is shipped apparently.

        • That's right. The money is not charged until the item is being prepared for shipment.

    • lol oh no not Broden again

  • The SSD is back on Amazon UK but this time at £128.97. So looks like they've corrected the price. It says it's in stock.

    Not surprised.

Told you so. Amazon UK would not honour this pricing mistake. People in this thread were deluding themselves.

    • -1

I knew it !, the funny thing however was that people kept +ve voting this deal, without any certainty that it will ever be fulfilled… rofl
