Can this be used to check my kids temperature?

    • I measured my mouth at 34.5C today while extremely bored at work. I assume it would do the job.

The range is quite good too, could measure the roof, across the room etc, fun toy.

Can this be used to check my kids temperature?

Yes, but probably not with any accuracy. I bought a similar thermometer a few months ago, and when it was listed here on OzB a few weeks later, I wrote:

"I thought I could use this as a fever thermometer, to measure body temperature. You can, but the surface of your body is not the same temperature as the core of your body, and varies depending on many factors (e.g. sweatiness). So as a fever thermometer, it's pretty useless."

I tested the temperatures of other things too. Full write-up is here:

  • Why is that one better than this for $3 less?

that ebay one is 8:1, this one is 12:1, smaller measurement spot

      • This one looks identical, and still only $12.24.

I think the difference is the max temp GM550=550 degrees, GM380=380 degrees

this looks exactly the same as the one i got from tom top for $13 delivered. If this has a blue backlight, then it's the same model.

    • The ALL look the same

You need to compare the SPECIFICATIONS, not the shape of the housing.

  • Can be used as a radar gun or hose pistol as well

  • Ideally you would also want one of the ones with variable emissivity like this one:

  • Can it be used to measure cylinder temperatures on a car?

  • Has anyone recieved this yet? i haven't
