Please bear in mind that this is a VOLUNTARY organisation who does a lot of good, and not abuse this offer.

Thanks for your comments. I am a new volunteer of SES. I enjoying being able to help out. Whilst you are ordering the gloves may be look for information on the website. See what we do; and if you would like to volunteer or support us with donations.
These are my comments and not authorised by SES.

150 paid employees australia wide (from your info)… 43,000 volunteers.

They are not a buisness, they are a brilliant organisation that is funded by donations by people, buisness and government. So if they turn a profit then so be it, all the more they can fund resources and help out even further.

While I get what your saying these are people who risk themselves to help others in hazardous conditions and I don't think it's fair to trivialise what they do by talking about them turning a profit or the 0.035% of their workers that are paid.

        • +3

It should also be noted that the gloves themselves would've been donated anyway… SES aren't the type of organisation to waste money on advertising! :P

again no sorry, its 150 full time in vic and 5000 volunteers… this is from there own published docs not just from my imagination. and where does this $60 million odd in profits over the last few years actually go? maybe if rather than turning huge profits every year they should be funnelling it back into safer equipment etc for there volunteers?

and like i said above, this is not to take anything away from the guys and gals who give up there spare time…. and some of them there lives to help other people.

my point is simply that "abusing" this profit making company by "stealing" $0.05 worth of gloves (which will no doubt also be written off somehow) isnt going to hurt them or the people who volunteer..

          its all in here

There: In, at, or to that place or position: "I'm going in there"
Their: Belonging to or associated with a person of unspecified sex: "she heard someone blow their nose loudly".

        • +1

Hi buddy, could you clarify where you're seeing the $60 million in profits? Looking at the balance sheet, their balance has only increased $8 million in the 2011-2014 financial year (keeping in mind this is the amount across all units in Victoria, all of which fundraise and potentially keep money on reserve for future purchases).

        • +1

Stealing is stealing, regardless of the perceived harm it does to the owner.

        • Each years profit goes back into the operating costs for the next year. If you looked at the summary of the financials page, the previous year was 16m profit, then the 2011-12 profit was 4.8m - The following page states that most of that money WAS spent on upgrading vehicles and equipment, and rebuilding their command centre in kinglake (i think). Read the document before commenting on an organisation which only does good for the community.

Imagine you had to run an organisation or business with $0 net profit in the bank from the previous financial year.

    • yeah that would be me, But got it delivered to my address in VIC i'm still redirecting after moving to QLD

  • I received mine yesterday.

I just came back inside after breaking up a pile of dried up old shrubs that were stacked in a pile behind the shed that are now in the green waste recycling bin after sitting around for months & I also grabbed up a bunch of large leaves that fell off the fruit tree as well.

Thanks SES, you motivated me to do yard work. :)
