Brother Label Printer QL-720NW (Approx $165 Delivered from Amazon.co.uk)

53

$228 in Officeworks.
UK voltage is same as ours. All you need is a simple $1 travel adaptor from ebay to run this thing.

edit: if Amazon is not showing up as the seller, click on "xx new from yy" where xx is the number of items and y is the price. Then choose Amazon.com as seller from the list. It looks like they recently ran out of stock so there might be a longer wait for the item.

£90.00 price
£95.09 total price (delivered) when checking out to an address in Australia (tax is deducted)

1 AUD = 0.58777606 GBP
So expect about $165 delivered, after conversion and the usual thievery.
Pretty cheap for this printer from a reputable seller.

  • Lol "only 1 left in stock"

    • The lovely "more on the way" means you can grab more than one if you like. The Camel says it's good, so you know it's good (even though the camel has been known to be lazy at times ;)

    • Why not order it directly from one of those shops?.

      • +1

        You can if you want

        • -1

And does Officeworks even price match with an online PC store in the first place?.

        • +1

          Yes

    • Or you can get Officeworks to beat another local price and get it cheaper locally…

      http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/content/Lowest-price-gu…
      Good idea.

But according to this, they also take into account the cost of delivery when price-matching online stores and the stuff needs to really be in stock (I suppose there's no way for them to really know; so many shops lie).

Though you do get 5% off the total price so it may be worthwhile. I've never done this so I don't know how lenient officeworks are regarding price-matching. Is it a hassle? I normally prefer to give my money to the store giving me the discount in the first place, and Amazon are normally good with service (if you need them).

Megabuy (and possibly others) are shonks. At best, the other stores offering reasonable pricing are 'unknowns' to me. Officeworks is just lazy with their 228 pricing so I choose not to support them. Price-matching is a nice way for them to keep tabs on their competitors while allowing them to otherwise be lazy on price.

edit: I just did a postage price test on printersupermarket.com.au. The item costs $47 to send to my postcode, and they claim to have stock in my state (VIC) :)

      Shonky brothers.

no matter what is your reason, local price beat your UK amazon price, not saying that we do not need adapter plus easy for warranty claim.

        • no matter what is your reason, local price beat your UK amazon price

Yes, but I suppose it's down to Officeworks' discretion whether they match it. I don't know how they are with this. Some stores clearly have shonky delivery prices and - according to their Price Match Guarantee - they include delivery prices for online stores.

not saying that we do not need adapter plus easy for warranty claim.

UK to AU adaptors start from $1 (delivered) on ebay. That's all you need. Search worldwide sellers. Buy It Now. Price + Postage - lowest first. For most people, going to the store will probably cost them more time and money than that.

Warranty claim: potential for some hassle there, yes…though amazon are normally quite accommodating. Anyway, to each their own. I think it's less hassle to not bother with a price match (and have it delivered to my door).

I think it's less hassle to not bother with a price match (and have it delivered to my door).

The local stores listed in the top comment are already cheaper than the Amazon UK price, even without OW price matching, so you can get it delivered to your door and not worry about warranty claims and plug adapters.

        • The local stores listed in the top comment are already cheaper than the Amazon UK price

          Incorrect.

Printerbarn: $47 delivery cost (total 202.26)
printersupermarket: $47 delivery cost (total 202.59)
Megabuy: $15.95 delivery cost (total 167.44)

          (all tested with vic postcode)

With the Officeworks discount on the ever-shonky Megabuy price, you may be able to go better than the Amazon price here. May. With some hassle. If you decide to order from Megabuy direct ( without officeworks ) good luck with that. Have you read up on them yet?

Anyway, your statement was false that all 3 shops are "already cheaper".

  • As posted above available cheaper in Australia.

    You need a slap.

    • -6

Actually not. Only with a possible price-match discounting 5% could it be cheaper. According to Officeworks, they include postage for online stores. Thanks for the neg.

      • +1

Why even defend the deal? It's not personal.

        • -6

          Why even defend the deal?

I'll answer anyone that makes false claims. It's not cheaper in Australia from the examples listed above IF you count postage (which Officeworks claim they do for online stores). It MAY be cheaper if Officeworks price-match and discount.

        • +3

I'd rather pay $2 more for faster delivery, an aus plug and local warranty…

You need someone to discount the price first. Megabuy won't deliver faster, if that's who you mean. Annnyyyway, click. Order. Thanks Amazon.

      • +1

when it is cheaper by $1, it is a cheaper price.

when it is expensive by $1, BUT with local warranty & local shipping/shops, then it is still a better deal!

        • Officework is great when comes to warranty
if you don't like your local one,
go to the next suburb Officework and they still happily do the warranty for you,
or even call to the head office and they will handle it for you!

you don't need to buy from MegaBuy, Officework will match price on any Australian retailer!
so buying from Australian shop is indeed look more attractive with local warranty & faster shipping + no adapter(also the pricing?)!

I do appreciate you sharing on OzBargain though, just replying coz I think the local shops are doing better on this deal!

I've never seen someone so desperate before to defend their (non)-bargain.

Since you are so afraid of hidden postage costs, here is an example:

    MegaBuy
    Our Price: $151.49
    Delivery Cost to SA: $15.95

I will buy mine today from Officeworks at a cheaper price while you can wait 2-3 weeks for delivery, pay more, have no warranty, and need to use an adapter every time you want to use it.

I will buy mine today from Officeworks at a cheaper price while you can wait 2-3 weeks for delivery, pay more, have no warranty, and need to use an adapter every time you want to use it.

      1) I bought mine yesterday, while they still had stock on-hand :) Stock replenishment is not normally a long process on common items. You still need to find stock at your local officeworks, probably.
      2) An adapter is plugged in once. Used forever after that. Non-issue. It isn't a repeat process so I don't have to plug in an adaptor "every time I want to use it".
      3) Will Officeworks price-match the Megabuy price? Let us know. But I doubt you are buying one. You're just another commenter with no interest in this more specialised printer. Amazon is quite good with customer service. I can't remember last time I used warranty, regardless. Enjoy price-matching (and finding stock at your local officeworks) if it floats your boat.

    • -3

Since you are so afraid of hidden postage costs, here is an example:

I already explicitly mentioned the Megabuy delivery price above (and the delivery prices for the other shops too, while nobody else bothered to). Duh! You're acting as if this is news to me.

Again, the Megabuy price requires you to go into officeworks and ask for a price-match and have them OK it to get a better price than I listed or alternatively deal with shonky Megabuy. That's fine for some users. I'd rather just buy from Amazon (and did, yesterday). Of course some will prefer to go into Officeworks and try their hand at negotiating. More power to them. Thanks.

      • Don't get your knickers in a twist.

I just checked with my best friend who is working at Officeworks today and has worked in one of the Adelaide stores for almost 4 years, and this is readily available. Megabuy is a very reputable site and one of the primary ones they always price match with.

The mild task of asking them to price match (which takes 60 seconds) takes far less effort than the amount of time you are spending on here to try to defend your non bargain.

It's not called negotiating when you don't need to negotiate.

        • Megabuy is a very reputable site and one of the primary ones they always price match with.

LOL about the reputable bit. You clearly have not investigated them. Whirlpool and comments here and elsewhere. (a Megabuy deal was posted here recently, go read the comments). Personally, I doubt you have dealt with Megabuy first-hand.

What I won't dispute is that Officeworks may match the price; I genuinely don't know so I give you the benefit of the doubt here. Has this been confirmed?

The mild task of asking them to price match (which takes 60 seconds) takes far less effort than the amount of time you are spending on here to try to defend your non bargain.

If it were a non-bargain, you wouldn't have to ask officeworks to cut their price about ~60 bucks to match it because it's far lower than their price. And if it weren't a genuine bargain, you'd think that you'd get a lot more non-sleazy retailers coming close to the price, after delivery.

What we have here are lots of commenters not interested in the product (it's a specialised printer) and mouthing off while I did all the work finding a reputable seller with a nice price. I do it for myself, not others, so I don't really care. I just thought I'd share and that some could benefit.

I just checked with my best friend who is working at Officeworks today and has worked in one of the Adelaide stores for almost 4 years, and this is readily available.

Which store, for the benefit of others?

Stock will probably vary for people. And that's some more legwork to do for those chasing one. Online site doesn't allow you to check stores, so I doubt it's a popular and in-stock item in most stores.

  • This Lablel Printer on OFFICEWORKS website is online only, will they do price match for it?

Store Availability is greyed out, you're right.

      Good find.
Not easy to find stock in Officeworks stores since it's a more specialised printer. So expect an online order.

If some of the commenters here were actually interested in this product, then we could find out if Officeworks will price-match. But I doubt they are. They'd rather call this a non-deal. Plus Officeworks don't do price-matches on weekends, so they have to wait til Monday to find out (according to their site).

Lighten up on OP people. I am grateful to people who post what they find, and at least one can think about whether one needs what's on offer or not.

Always useful to read the comments, especially when someone finds it available cheaper elsewhere.

But thanks go to OP for finding something interesting at a reasonable price!

  • No deal. Cheaper locally, even without price match.
