  • Can the buffalo link station duo preinstalled hard drives be taken out and be installed with a computer ?

  • Which, if any, of the NAS's could have the GT610 installed. Sorry if that's a noob question - I have very little knowledge of NAS systems but have been told they're a good way to go.

    • Only the HP microserver, which is essentially a 'standard' PC in a small size. The other 2 NAS's are proprietary hardware, think of them as a USB hard drive enclosure with a network connection (and no USB).

      • netgear has USB 3 and USB 2

        • Sorry, I meant no USB to connect to the computer with. The USB is for adding additional storage, printers etc to the NAS.

      • I wonder if Netgear and Buffalo think they are being clever by making their hardware special/different when really it's just proprietary and non-standard? In my opinion it just turns off most consumers.

  • This is a great deal. If you're after an N40L & one of the more expensive hard drives it's a win. Brings the N40L down to the previous ~$200 mark.

  • The description for the N40L says it comes with a 250GB HDD, while the title says it doesn't. Might want to correct that to avoid confusion.

    • thanks mate, cleaned up

    I LOVE YOU SHOPPING EXPRESS.

    AWESOME DEAL!!

  • Hmm, I'm not seeing the discount in my cart.

    • Did you ensure you had one from each group?

      • yup! One N40L, one 3TB Seagate NAS, one 4GB Kingston RAM.

      • All orders all came through without issues, can you point out which particular combos not working so i can have a check?

        • Argh, I only just got back to a computer and now the N40L is sold out. Any more extra stock hidden away somewhere?

  • N40L VS Netgear 104?

    • same question here :)

    • N40L is server based hardware that can install server 2008/2012, Linux, Home Server etc
Netgear is NAS software preinstalled, cant install any of the above (without any hacks)

I neg this deal based on, when I went to order. 5 hours ago! The combination was not going down to $399, your reply is inadequate.

Even adding that ram, it didn't change the price. Now the combination is sold out.

        • +2

you waited 5 hours to reply. That's like 10 year in OZB

        • ShoppingExpress you don't want him as a customer anyway…

I feel your pain Moots, the last time I tried to buy something from shopping express was about 6 months ago. I ordered and paid for 2 x 23" monitors. I called them three times to follow up where they were over a 4-5 week period. Each time I was told that they were sorry and the monitors would be shipped out straight away. The 4th time I called they said that they were sorry but they can't find the stock. Good deals are tempting but with these guys I would much rather keep my money and sanity in a safe place..

        • Hi Moot,

The correct ram was recommended to you before the server ran out and one of the reason i feel you might have met is: you might not have apply your post code for postage estimation in the shopping cart. Our promotion discount triggers when a postcode have been applied.

If you wished, you can consider signing a registered account so you can record your shipping details and everytime you sign in and make an order, the discount will apply automatically. This also allow you to see your order history and print all past orders at anytime.

          Kind Regards

  • Dear ShoppingExpress,

Do you have stock for Toshiba 3TB DT01ACA300. From what I've heard it's a much better drive than WD Green. Cheers.

    • +1

      We stock them

Adding this to your combo deals should not increase the freight charges. If you think the price is fair and willing to support us for being awesome - please do so :).

  • Great deal. Bought a N40L from them last time and very happy with it.

Anyone interested in a 2GB DIMM that I took out from my microserver, PM me.

    • Do you have PM turned on? Interested in the RAM, could you pm me? Thanks

  • Thanks Shopping express - but I would be divorced if I got another N40..
Got the switch though on its own.

How about a fitbit deal - need one for xmas/postpone the divorce if I do get another n40 :)

    • lol…
      We've actually got a Fitbit Promo on-going

Prices are particularly special by itself, but you do get discounts off the Aria Scale and the Belkin Arm Fit when you buy any Fitbit together.
I do reckon your planned strategy might work though (informing your wife FitBit was included as a combo deal with the Microserver :P).

So… I can buy a 4-bay NAS box, and only one HD?

What do I do with the other 3 bays?!

At least you ought to do some kind of package that finishes up with a proper usable redundant NAS… sell HDs in pairs or sets of 4, maybe…

  • i want to use my S4 refund from kogan to buy buffalo, but it is out of stock :(

    • +1

REP, why not add 30 more buffalo? pretty please :)

  • Crap. I just found this. Any chance of more LinkStation stock? I would pounce immediately.

  • -1

Can you beat MSY price of $191 for the 840 evo 250gb?

  • Any deals on 4TB disks?

  • Nooooo… needed an N40L :(

  • REP, can you do deal for the netgear NAS with 4 x 4tb disks. If only there is a 4tb deal in the group 2. I would have bought it.

  • Why is everyone going for the Buffalo, isn't the HP better?

    • The Buffalo has 2 x 2TB disks…

    • Probably because it came with 2x2tb drives?

Edit: damn, should always refresh page before commenting.

    • +1

      2 x 2tb drives….

All things being equal I think the HP is the most useful to me, then the Netgear, then the Buffalo - but the fact the Buffalo already comes with 4tb of storage makes it a really excellent buy…

I already have 2 x N40L and they go OK, so I dont really need another PC/NAS so a plain NAS will be just fine…

      • ahhh no wonder.. shame the stock didn't last

    • I am not sure what HDD included for buffalo, but the 2xtb hdd itself (let say wd red nas) its almost $300 :)

      edit: ops

  • Whats wrong with the ReadyNAS?

    • Not sure…but just not as good value wise compared to the other two…

  • Noob question,

What else do i need to buy to have this nas up and running have i bought
    N40L
    Asus monitor
    Gt610

    • +1

Hard disk and maybe an extra stick of ram. Note the N40L didn't come with the usual 250 gig hd.
I'd recommend using the top DVD bay for the 250gig hard disk which you can use to install your Operating system. Then run a raid on the 4 bays below.

  • +4

come on Shopping express. If your out of the N40L do a deal on the N54L or the G8's

If you can get some more stock you have many buyers here

    • Yeah get the Buffalo back on and i will be allllll over it like a rash.

  • +2

Rep - can you confirm that you will/will not make the Linkstation/N40L available again? I'm tempted to buy but will be mighty pissed if you end up having more of those items in stock later on.

  • Rep.. I made the payment and thru paypal and then took me back to store page to enter shipping details and then it says no stock….

  • Moar Linkstation!!!!!

    please?

  • REP- you have stock of these HP ProLiant N40L MicroServer NAS 658553-371 for $10 more. make these part of the deal for $10 more

    • +1

Same for the Linkstation…. will be willing to pay an extra $10-$20

  • Anybody know if you can use the 4GB Kingston and the 2GB installed ECC RAM together? Do they clash?

    • +3

      no
you can't install ECC RAM with non-ECC RAM together

  • +2

Am I the only one who wants the Buffalo LinkStation Duo 4TB 2 Bay Network Storage to come back in stock?

It seems pretty awesome - Although I wouldn't mind the Microserver!

    • Yeah i want Buffalo!

  • Does anyone know the difference between the n40l and the NetGear readyNAS one? Why is the latter so unloved?

  • You should label the screen as Full HD most people assume that unless it's labeled as full HD it probably isn't.

  • Most of the HDD are out of stock now.

  • Excellent deal. I have an old readynas, and it's been great. Wish I could justify the cost of going to a 4 bay version for more storage…..

I went readynas when I bought a nas for home, because I didn't want to muck about with setting up a server just to have network storage at home. Plugged in a couple of hdds, logged in to configure it, and it just worked.

Another advantage of a custom nas over a full server is the energy usage is really low. It has no resources to do video or 3d graphics, and as a result it's nice and energy efficient when left on all the time to run.

  • All the NAS's showing as SOLD OUT now :(

Too bad, was an amazing deal and I am in the market for a 4 bay NAS too.

Why didn't I check ozbargain yesterday… oh why?

  • is morning?
