Grand Theft Auto V - X360/PS3 - $69.98 with Preorder from Dick Smith

550

This is a bit of a dupe, but Dick Smith have listed the final price of Grand Theft Auto V as $79.98. See…

http://www.lasoo.com.au/offer/xbox-360-games/grand-theft-aut…

The $10 preorder offer ends today, so (I assume) if you pre-order today at Dick Smith, the game will only cost $69.98. A saving of roughly $10 from the $79 price of Target/K-Mart.

http://www.lasoo.com.au/offer/xbox-360-games/grand-theft-aut…

Unik explains it easily, "Pay $10 for pre order and dse will double it. Price tomorrow is $79.98. Pick it up tomorrow and pay only $59.98."

  • nice! almost on par with importing!

  • It would still cost a total of $79.98?

I put my $10 down last week, assuming its $10 off the final price, so i need to pay balance of $69.98?

im not fussed, i was prepared to pay $100+ for it.

    • +3

If you put down $10, Dick Smith puts in an extra $10. So if you've put down $10, you should only have to pay a balance of $59.98.

        • +7

That's not confusing, berger specifically asked how much he would have to pay after he had already paid his $10 deposit.

  • So you would need to make the pre-order in store? Was thinking of picking this up on my way home tomorrow.

    • Yes, the pre-order bonus ends today (according to Lasoo).

      • +1

Usually the last day to pre-order something is the day before it comes out.

  • links don't work for me? Am I doing something wrong?

    • I've updated the links, try now.

    • So if you preorder today, and pick it up tomorrow, what's the issue?

    • +3

So today is not still today?
      Interesting…

    • Someone doesn't get the concept of a pre-order.

  • +1

Can anyone elaborate how does it work? Just need to go to Dicksmith and pre-order with the code?
    Thanks

    • +1

Just ask them to do the pre-order $10 for the value of $20 and yeah the code might be helpful

    • When I did it, I grabbed a catalogue from the front of the store, flipped to the page with the preorder, showed it to them and ordered.

  • Do we need to give them the code "YG1954" when paying the deposit?

    • you have to go into store and tell them the code YGGTAVPREORDER1 (for ps3 version, 2 for 360). Apparently its in the fine print of the catalogue.

      • Thanks for that. It must be super fine print as I have been over that catalogue several times and can't see it :) I can see a code for the PS3 bundle but nothing for these.

    • YG1954 is the Xbox 360 version

  • +1

    From Whirlpool - Krozlink writes…

I called up Dick Smith to ask about the $10 preorder discount. The guy said it was $89 so with the discount it would be down to $79.

Do we really think DSE are going to play ball here? I know toxic got hammered for saying this I think he is on the money.

Edit: I'm going to preorder from there and take my chances, worse case we get the game for $79 anyways.

    • -3

Yep, I think I would rather pay $79 at target than having a chance of paying $69 at DSE and having to deal with those SOBs. And I think the chances of paying $69 are very slim.

      • +4

Yep I have had trouble with click and collect - even without any mention of secret codes or preorder deals. Expect your local dick member of staff (3 phallic references in one - woot woot) working there to have no clue about what you mean when you mention this…

  • From what I see. Current listed price is $87.98. Will they stick you with that preorder price less $10 = $77.98 on your invoice?

Or will you get a receipt for $10 preorder discount meaning they may charge you the new release day price $79.98 less $10 = $69.98?

    • +1

That is still unknown although Krozlink from Whirlpool has rang them twice and they are saying $87.98-$10 is what his store are rolling with. I think it could vary depending on store and how they approach this, although a company email would have probably been sent instructing staff to charge $77.98.

  • Might give my local store a call and see what they can do.

    • Interested to hear the outcome. You would think that when you pick up a pre-order, you would hope to pay the launch price… though $69 is very cheap.

  • interested to see if anyone has got this offer to work in the Brisbane cbd branch.

  • Just went to DSE north Sydney and pre ordered, asked them if i still got the discounted price and they said yes.

    • might get the missus to do this for me…
Can you just pick up tomorrow?

      • Yeah they already have the games out back, he said come tomorrow anytime after 8:30 to pick it up

        • hey mate, did you have to tell them anything in particular to get the discount. missus already went to lunch and a colleague said chatswood arent playing ball… any help greatly appreciated.

  • +3

Looks good, but I'm not gonna bother. Already have the game preordered for $89 at JB. Good enough. Would be willing to pay $200 from Rockstar if asked. They've done a great job

    • you will get free Xbox 360 with it for $200….ask JB, you are willing to pay $200…

        • this is so funny. I can see your frustration… chill out. you have just paid extra $10 or in best case scenario $20 than other fellow OzB.

        • -1

I have no frustration…Like I said if ROCKSTAR GAMES wanted RRP $200 I'd pay it.

  • If you're in Sydney, Gamesmen have it for $79.95 - https://www.gamesmen.com.au/catalog/grand-theft-auto-5-gtav-…

  • +5

Just asked the guys at dicksmith box hill and they assured me if the price doesn't get automatically updated to 69$ they would override it themselves.

    Cheers op!

    • Thanks for letting us know, appreciated.

  • 79.98 at target and 89 at jb, i dont get how they can charge you an extra 10 bucks for the blimp

does the dlc really cost that much?

    • +3

The blimp is free everywhere upon preorder. The $10 is just mark up.

  • +3

i think why people are getting confused about the pre-order deal and the current price is because the pre-order deal was in last weeks catalog and the week before that too (it was not just for GTA V but a whole lot of upcoming new releases that if you put $10 down , dick smith would match it and put in another $10 but the new $79.98 price for GTA V is only listed in the catalog that begins tomorrrow, so dick smiths system has not updated the price so if you ask staff they look it up on system today being monday its going to show the old price not the price as of tuesday.

best option is to take a copy of both last weeks catalog showing the deal and this weeks catalog showing the price. also none of this can be done online, have to go to actual store.

edit:here are the actual pages from the catalog -

    last weeks with the $10 deposit + $10 off deal - http://www.lasoo.com.au/catalogue/dick-smith-catalogue-weekl…

this weeks catalog sale period 17th-23rd showing the $79.98 price - http://www.lasoo.com.au/catalogue/dick-smith-catalogue-get-o…

  • +4

It's really simple guys. Pay $10 for pre order and dse will double it. Price tomorrow is $79.98. Pick it up tomorrow and pay only $59.98

  • can you just pay the $59 all up?

    • +3

you're confusing people. Best case it's $69, worst case it's $79. Although if it ends up being $79 I'd be pretty salty, seems like a cheap grab at customers for the same price. Plus no midnight launch.

      • -8

this is what I said to the idiots above and got downvoted.

        • +1

          keep your panties on sweety

        • -3

          lol..keep your dad's panties on

        • -1

          heh you'd enjoy that ;)

      • -1

sorry i meant to say $69,,, took too many $10s off lol

  • +3

For those who are a bit skeptical:

"The great news is that the price will definitely NOT BE more than $87.98, and if you have your pre-order in that means we give you another $10 off that price (or off our launch week price if it's cheaper again!)"

Taken straight from the DSE facebook page

  • -2

It may pay to wait a few days on this.. can see it droping to ~$50 online.. preorder hype pays a premium.

    • Probably unlikely for GTAV, as it will sell well. You never know though.

    • +2

Yes for international copies, but I can't forsee it dropping lower for local copies before Christmas.

      • Is there any issues with GTA 5 and ordering from overseas? activation codes ect

        • Who needs local copy. As long as its PAL there's no issue on ps3

        • If you don't order from a PAL region (eg. UK), you're going to have issues with DLC. (have to create a PSN account for that country)

And you can't trade in overseas copies to places like EB.

        • +2

Who needs to trade. Gumtree and eBay way better resell options available

  • +1

Talked to local Dicksmith, they said it's most likely that they will sell it for $69 aka $10 off the $79 advertised price if you pre order.

  • Can I pre-order at one store and pick up at another?

    Edit: Cannot.

  • 64 bucks including postage at blockbuster.com.au!

    • they sell overseas stock

      • -1

        Is it PAL version?

      • -1

        they mention it's pal…

        • yeah it's PAL. PAL covers Asia which is where blockbuster source their games from

  • I pre-ordered yesterday and just want to make sure, was i supposed to receive some sort of coupon for the $10 off? The cashier seemed to have no idea what i was talking about when i mentioned the 10 dollars off offer, just want to know if I missed out on something? Or will the discount simply be applied when i go to pay the remainder?

    • +2

You get a receipt with the coupon code on it YGGTAVPREORDER

  • I just had a chat with my local Dick Smith on the phone. They weren't sure whether they could still do the $10 off, but said they'd talk to head office and get back to me.

    Fingers crossed!

    • As an update, West Lakes Dick Smith said that Marion was honouring it, and they would too.

      • I was there when he was speaking to you. He thought I was the one who originally called when I asked about it

        • Hah, Small world. When i was on the phone or in person?

I got my preorder in, but it says $87 on the receipt and no mention of any code. I don't believe i was served by the same guy i spoke to on the phone. I hope they honour it.

        • When you were on the phone you spoke to Mitchell (guy who served me). Think they must have done yours wrong mine has $10, a code, and no mention of any game price.

Hope it pans out for you tomorrow

  • After I asked her to check it out, my wife just called me from DS at North Lakes and they gave the $10 discount with no problems.

  • Can anyone link me to where they say it'll only cost 59.98 please?

Will try and get an EB Games pricematch…

    • +2

It's $79.98, but you get $10 off with the preorder bonus… so its still $69.98. EB won't price match as its a preorder bonus.

      • Thanks for helping me not waste my time. Target it is, I guess…

    • sorry mate i got it wrong above

  • Just went to my local dick smith, they told me the price was $87 something. Asked then if they would price match target (@$79) and they said no, that was below cost. Hmmm….

    • +3

Pre-order it at $87, get the preorder bonus, and tomorrow the price for the game will be reduced to $79.98 as part of their catalogue (that starts tomorrow).

      • Yeah that might be a plan… I'm suprised the guy didn't mention the $10 off though if he was still able to do it. I think he was the manager too.
Went in to jbhifi also, said they would price match target, but that they weren't taking any more preorders so I would have to come in tomorrow to do it…

        • So I went to Target to buy it, even if it didn't come with the pre order blimp, and they weren't taking pre orders anymore either.

So in the end I managed to score it from EB games for $59 plus priority queuing for the standard edition. Not sure if this comes with the blimp but I don't care tbh as it's a great price!

Also, thought I would mention, the guys at Dick Smith said they had been playing GTA V all week out the back!
Gotta love those Dick Smith employees!

        • ——->Photo of eb receipt or it didn't happen

        • How did u get it for 59$ at eb?

        • I have a feeling he means he paid $10 deposit and now tomorrow only has to pay $59 =$69 total like the rest of us…

I am surprised though that EB would price match, they said time today they will be price matching $89 on launch and it's an order from head office but they shouldn't be because they don't HAVE TO price match at midnight cause the competitor isn't open (what a load of crap from them guys, so arrogant).

Also on a side note, I confirmed today that this deal is confusing because alot of you don't realise this is a PRE-ORDER DEAL for any game at DSE not just GTA V it expires tomorrow because the game is released tomorrow and can no longer be pre-ordered, I confirmed with my store today there is no special code required it is all part of the promotion, but make sure you mention it because most staff seem clueless about this promotion.

Now something you guys may have an answer for me for, JB said they sold out of the DLC blimp at my local store because it come separate to them last week and they have it out with the pre-orders, sick smith didn't even know they offered the DLC and said it must be in the case, can anyone confirm this?

        • Nope, paid $59 total. Paid it in full today (that way I get 'express lane' tomorrow), no deposit.

He said that there had been quite a few people coming in price matching it with Target today, didn't even look up the price, just said "alright that'll be $59!". So looks like it could have been a mistake on his part!

Although, the guy at the counter did say that there's a chance they won't be able to honor the price matches tomorrow when people go to pick up their copy, and if they won't just to tell them to give a refund and go to target to buy it! (he said that!)
I'm guessing they will though, they're gonna be so packed out with people all day (apparently), so i'm guessing they will be trying to get customers in and out the door as soon as possible!

I'll see if I can get a pic up when I get home.

        • I feel u may have been served by the village idiot. Good luck to u

        • I've heard that the DLC will be in the box - http://www.gadgetreview.com/2013/09/grand-theft-auto-v-pre-o…

        • Thanks for the concert with the DLC.

Rnewton4, can you please provide a recipt and the store location that did this? I am going to call my local and try get the same done for me so I can get it tonight???

        • Well they arnt answering their phones so it's kind of hard to find out if they would…

        • I actually managed to get it for $59! Was honestly expecting "alright, so you've already paid $59, that'll be $20 ", But they just took my receipt and gave me the game/blimp code!
This was at 10:30ish so wasn't even very busy, probably 2 people in express lane….
          I'm very suprised!!

          ^pm'd

        • @Rnewton4
Did you get the Blimp code from Dick Smith?

        • Nah, I got my game and code from EB games..

        • Huh, wouldn't match for me because Target wasn't selling the "special Edition version"…annoying.

        • There is no such thing as special edition,PRE-ORDER gives the code no matter what copy and from whatever shop.

        • When I asked to price match the guy at EB said that they had two editions, the regular one and the special edition which only EB games had.
          I bought the regular.

        • …I did get it…if that's what you're asking…?

  • +2

too much stuffing around with dick smith, staff dont know anything, have to tell them codes. They should make the $10 offer visible on their website, and allow you to pre-order online for pickup in store. less hassle to get it from Kmart/Target for $79 for me..
