      $1.5k for QF for Nov-Dec is good. Don't even try Dec-Jan, $3k+ is easy to see.

  I prefer Tiger for $30-$40 (I know most don't but I've only had good experiences with Tiger).

    Since Virgin took control of Tiger, the cheapest MEL-SYD flights have been is $39.95, with added luggage that some people might need, the $17 return credit card fee, and the $5-$8 for the equivalent Qantas snack and drink, it works out to be about the same as this Qantas price- without the frequent flyer points or status credits. If you can live without all that then yes Tiger is still cheaper. Ive flown them many times myself and must be one of the lucky ones thats never had any delay/cancelation/problem with them.
