  • JB will you drop to the same price ?

I still have to 20% off voucher until Sunday :p

Will make it down to $90.20

    • Good idea but only if they lower the ticketed price. I tried with OfficeWorks pricing on W510 at JB Hi-Fi Galeries Victoria but they refused. Telling me %20 is off the ticketed price. They would either price match or apply the %20 off voucher but not both.

      • +1

Yes hope they will drop the ticketed price to match DSE before Sunday.

Bing Lee and DSE both dropped their price, JB should have the press to do the same :)

    • +1

what is that 20% off voucher?

  • I still haven't got my cash back from their tablet cashback in July!

    • Last time when I claimed my Dlink Router I took 1-2 months I think.

They have an email address you can contact them.

    • I just received mine today. :)

    • Got mine today as well

    • i got mine at the beginning of this month

    • Got my $29 card today from the JB B1 deal.

  • +2

Think the Accidental Damage Cover ended in August…guess you could still try and register, although it's $75 excess if you claim lol!

    http://www2.acer.com.au/acercareplus/index.html?utm_source=L…

    • although it's $75 excess

WTF?! Thats more than it will be worth in a couple of months.
I had thought this would be good for my pre-schooler. Low-ish screen-res does not matter for most games and educational programs.

  • Cashback link is broken, seems to be bad copy pasting. Click this link and copy the whole URL.
    http://ec3.acer.com.au/AcerCashBack/ACA/Projects/CashBack/Lo…

On a side note, has anybody successfully rooted this tablet?

    • Is rooting the only way to get it to use ad-hoc wi-fi ?

  • Hooray, Paypal is available again as a payment option.

  • Does it support microSD? and what version of android?

  • +4

Damn, I just bought this for $182 from GoComp. At least I can get the cash-back to reduce my misery.

    • Can you please comment on the performance and screen quality? Thanks.

      • I won't receive it until tomorrow afternoon, so I can't comment until then.

      • +2

sold it today after had it for 3 months.
Comment: good value for money (very responsive and works fine) but let down by poor screen resolution and thickness as well as poor rear camera. I have tried a few android tablets so far. none has met my expectation. Ipad is still the king. In conclusion, good for kids gaming but not for adults.

        • i have no regrets buying the 2012 nexus 7 for $150 from the HN deal the other day. Best thing so far about the nexus is the decent battery life and OTA OS upgrade.

        • It has the same res as iPad mini.

      • err the 4:3 screen ratio means a much thicker top and bottom black line when watching movies. Some games will have weird aspect ratio or may be harder to play due to an uncommon aspect ratio.

If you mainly use it to surf the web ti should be ok.

    • Woohoo, I emailed GoComp last night asking if I could cancel my order, and they graciously agreed. Re-ordered from DSE!

  • Great tablet for the price just make sure you apply the OTA update from Acer as they fix issues with the touch screen and it's responsiveness.

    • Also in case your wondering it has a decent screen, nice and responsive, has micro SD, very sturdy and comfortable to hold and biggest plus is vanilla android.

  • +1

i'm thinking of purchase it now or try my luck with jb-hifi if they can price match and discount 20% . anyone here thinking the same ?

  • is this better than google nexus 7 16gb that was on sale @ HN recently?

    • The main advantage of Acer is the bigger screen and screen ratio, but Nexus 7 has higher resolution and future updates of the Android OS. I think for $120 Acer is better value overall.

    • No but if you want 8" instead of 7" like me.

      Also HN deal expired.

      • thanks for the reply guys. i got the hn nexus 7 deal but they still haven't called me when i can pick it up.

        • If HN don't call you I think you won't get it because everywhere out of stock now.

  • -2

I guess the resolution kills it… but the price is good.

    • -2

Dont know why this is negged. After getting used to 1280x800 on 7" i do find 1024 on 7" a little unconfortable and not as sharp. So this 1024 on 8" would worry me.

      • uncomfortable and sharp or not is not 100% related to 1024. Like Galaxy Tab 3 or iPad Mini not too bad.

        • Yeah but i do find the screen not as sharp on ipad mini and tab 3 when checking them out in store. I guess its just getting used to high res and cant go back. Like how you cant use 3gs anymore after using iphone 4 retina.

        • +1

Of course an $100 tablet cannot compare with $300 and more but for this price it is ok.

        • -1

Am comparing this to Nexus 7 which is both in sub $100 range. What I am trying to say is that the screen res does play a part… Don't know why OzBargainers neg screen res comments.

      • -2

I guess people are always finding an opportunity to neg.

        • Some people neg people who complain about being negged.

    Here's a review:

    http://www.trustedreviews.com/acer-iconia-a1_Tablet_review#t…

    I'd say it's like a poor man's ipad mini.

    • +1

id say you and the reviewer are doing some sucking and twrking.

ipad mini is a1ghz DUAL core while acer is 1.2 QUAD core, now shooo shoooo you good for nothing ishhh shooo!

bought one, thanks for the great bargain poster, made my day. Cant get a better performance, size and value.

      • +3

Quad core is only marketing gimmick, and just because a processor is higher clocked doesn't mean it's faster. It also has more ram than the mini. The rest is pretty darn similar to the mini, same screen size, same resolution, same 5mp camera rating etc. Comparing a device at 1/3rd the price is a compliment to the Acer in this situation.

Can't pay online with gift cards anymore? WTF

    • +1

I'm wondering the same thing, that's really annoying !

EDIT - Think I found it ! Go to 'My Account' after creating your account and there is a 'Gift Vouchers' tab on the left right at the bottom. Give that a go !

      • Tried but doesn't work for me. Entered card no, serial, pin and so on. Gives an invalid message? Any one know how to use these Wish gift cards online? Haven't used them online before so not sure what numbers to put in there. Checked their site couldn't find any thing on there either.

      • I'm thinking that might only work for DSE gift cards specifically. No luck with the Wish gift cards.

        • I think you're right dins. The balance shows correctly on the everydaygiftcards site but it gives me an error on the DSE site. I'm going to ring them this morning or I might actually see them in store first if they have stock.

        • These guys are real dicks. "Sorry we don't accept gift cards online anymore, only in store". And this deal is online only.

        • Not online only. Go to the DSE homepage, and wait for it to cycle through the special deals. One of them is for this tablet, and it says at the bottom "Deal starts online 5PM AEST 26/09/13 and starts in-store tomorrow 27/09/13. Deal ends 29/09/13 at 5PM AEST online. Offer is not available for Click & Collect. XC9036"

So it is available in-store, but you will have no way of knowing which stores have stock. Best to ring first. DSE stores used to be able to see stock levels at all stores, so if you're nice to the person you ring, they may tell you which other stores have stock. Also be aware that DSE's stock tracking is/was renowned for being inaccurate, so ring the other stores to double-check.

  • When does the cashback offer finish?

  • +1

cashback ends on Nov 30 http://ec3.acer.com.au/AcerCashBack/ACA/Projects/CashBack/Lo…
    thanks op- bought 3

  • Thanks OP! I have been looking for a handbag sized tablet for a while now but waiting for the right price/specs!

  • buy this or wait for harvey norman's nexus 7?

    • was thinking the same thing then realised HN nexus 7 is sold out…

      • It was still available in store as of this evening. Not sure about tomorrow though.

  • Apparently starts in store tomorrow and ends on Sunday at 5pm (29/09/2013) according to their frontpage.

  • bought this Tablet at Bing Lee this morning @$179 before cashback and now Bing Lee is refusing to price match even if their pricing policy says so….booo BL

  • +1

This deal looks the goods. Remember to keep a copy of your snid throughout the process as you need it to activate your cashback card. Acer are as slippery as a greased up pig. You need to do everything right to get your $$$.

    • it says you should mail it to them, where exactly?

  • Just bought one for my wife for $149, will do the cash back shortly. This is to replace the July JB Acer B1 deal which I also bought for my wife, and returned for a refund today as the screen would no longer rotate - a known fault apparently. Thanks JB Albury for good service and thanks, OP.

  • Cheers op

Does anybody think an 8 inch tablet is any good for word processing?

  • Sorry, I can't find what version of android it comes with? Is it 4.04?

  • So we gonna get massive black bars on the top and bottom when watching widescreen movies on this tablet?

  • +3

A bit random and not necessarily related to this post, but I received my cash back today from http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/111427 which I purchased on the 25th of July. So basically two months. Would've posted this in that post but comments are disabled. Just incase anyone is wondering about the cashback - also it's an EFTPOS card that you have to activate at giftcardplanet.com.au

  • I grabbed one of these in a store earlier today. Does anyone know how to uninstall some of the preinstalled applications? I have checked in settings->applications but it isnt giving me an uninstall option.

  • umm- does anyone have an idiots guide to rooting this tablet?? I presume this will void warranty??

    • Yes it will void warranty. Go over to the xda forum. If there is a method to root this tablet, it will definitely be on that site.

  • Luckily I had a quick look at the tablet before buying it. Good price but the display was shocking and looked very washed out. I'll give it a miss.

    • Yeh me too i didn't like the aspect ratio.

  • i can't get click & collect to work. anybody else have the same issue?

  • +1

At $120 a pod, can't complain. Got one.
    Thanks op

  • This is kinda not fair feature list /advertisement.

The tablet has Memory Card Reader unlike Nexus, Ipad !

The tablet has Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS, HDMI !

And it has a medium quality IPS screen as well. I was at Dicksmith to try it. It is very fast, but hardly had anything installed on it, not even was connected to any WiFi, no games installed on it at all.

It is very light for 1hand, I just passed on it because of the too wide design, it was not comfortable to hold it with 1hand, unlike the Galaxy or Ipad Mini which both have hardly space at the screen edges on sides, making it smaller.

I hope they fix this design in a next version to be competitive with others on ergonomic level as well.

    • Kindle Fire HD and Samsung 8" tablet seem having a similar wide bezel design.

  • Hi,
I looked at the Acer cashback page yesterday, before I went and bought the deal. Now, it looks as though the links to aren't working.
Can anybody access the cashback form?

    • +1

While i am here, if you guys are not familiar with the Acer Cash back program, you will get your cash back approxi. 2 months from the date you lodge the application (they will also let you know the ETA. for the cash back approval and the cash card will be delivered from the date of ETA) and you will be able to use the money in the cash card where ever there is an eftpos machine.

Note: you can not take out cash from the card and there is a pin number behind the card for you to enter.
