  • I've just recently been fridge hunting, base price without the water dispenser for that F&P should be about 1500, the dispenser likely adds a bit so this is a good price. We went with a 610l Westinghouse side by side for 1500 anyway. This would have been tempting but glad we got the side by side.

    • I concur on the price, its bloody good. We hated our old side by side, the freezer was too narrow and by god that thing was heavy to shift. We've gone with a bottom mount this time and its much better for us.

      • I agree. I had a side by side and just recently purchased a bottom mount freezer, much more practical. Greater usable space and just makes sense as the fridge part is huge and so accessible top mounted. Love mine.

I have an earlier model E522B, worst fridge I have ever owned.

I would urge prospective buyers to do a lot of research before purchasing, because unless they've significantly revised the fundamental design flaws present in this model line then you are not going to be happy with it.

Just search OzB for my past comments on the matter, I've whinged at length, but it's all well known & documented issues with the product so caveat emptor! ;)

I agree wholeheartedly with that. I have just disposed of our E522B. Terrible design. Ours would keep freezing up the channels from the freezer to the fridge to get the cold air to the top. The fan in the freezer was also prone to damage. Had this model and an upright freezer of F&P die within two months of each other at relatively young ages. Have replaced with a Bosch side by side. Very happy so far.

      • Yup, spot on.

I literally thought somebody was breaking into the house the first few nights we had ours, the sound of the ice falling down those channels is that loud!

    • Interesting. Myself and two friends have the E522B F&P fridge. Have been fault-free for 6 yrs, except my frige light has been intermittent. No ice dispenser though.

  • We currently have bottom mount FP, but no ice/water. Good fridge besides that. Have previously had side by side, good, but pokey as mentioned. Does anyone have comments about experience with the French door- seems like a good mix of features.

  • Price match at David Jones for the Samsung SRF731GDLS is available. After about 30 minutes of discussion between the staff at least.

David Jones is horribly overpriced though, with this being a $2200.00 reduction.

575L side by side Haier with stainless steel finish doors (might be actually stainless steel), safety glass, wheels (good for moving the fridge around), extendable feet (once you have the fridge in place and to make up for floor being not quite level), safety glass shelves (not just plastic) and looks way cooler running than when you see it in the store. Also it's a Choice magazine favourite/winner for 2013

    Only $998 http://www.masters.com.au/product/100537841/haier-side-by-si…

(I was looking for a fridge and got this one; after limited to no research :P )

Dispenser less so you don't have to get your fridge plumbed :P

Also having temperature controls on the door is much nicer than having them inside the fridge

      Nice.

When I was in China, Haier was like Weyland Yutani or MomCorp, they pretty much made everything (AC, fridge, washer, hot water, mobile etc, etc) & nobody ever had an issue with any of it…I'd definitely give it a go over F&P, whose planned obsolescence seems to be as timely as the Japanese transit system! :)

      • Thanks StewBalls,

I didn't know that about Haier. Makes me feel even better about the purchase.

    • Energy Star Rating: 2 Stars

      • Most fridges are pretty low in terms of star ratings, particularly the big ones .

      • I think someone said on an earlier post, the government changed the stars in the past couple of years and so most fridges are low on stars.

On the plus side, it's close to 1 kW per litre per year, so that's not too bad if you check the others.

  • Indeed they're great prices, but I keep telling people lately to please note: they are clearance prices. Hence, not available at all stores and there's a strong likely hood that it'll be the floor model only in most places!!!

    • Yep, at Chullora they had only floor model available, some scratches here and there, no further discounts. Nice fridge for the price.
