Please do not buy this range of printers they are absolutely horrible to set up !

You have to be connected to a computer by USB to do any settings that eventually don't work.

As this is a USB only printer it's not exactly surprising that you need to connect to it by USB.

Even USB setup of this printers is crap. Windows (or Linux) would not have the drivers for them. On the official HP website they publish some weird files instead of normal drivers. Read the reviews.

That may be you problem right there. This is a Xerox printer.

        • +3

LOL the above comments make me want to shoot myself… 1. its a usb printer (as stated) and 2. its a xerox… from the title pretty damn obvious its not HP

        • -3

Well I own one and I reckon they suck its really your call USB or wifi or whatever.

We have been using the B&W version of this printer for about 2 years now and cannot fault it.
Very easy to setup and network through your adsl modem. Kaboda does not have a clue about what he is complaining of.
We get great life out of the cartridge and and after market cartridges are available. They work very well too.
The build quality and functioning is faultless.
The only thing I can pick is the led screen could be brighter.

All in all FX is the best printer I have ever used for the money.

        • Whatever, consider it a typo, meant Xerox or whatever this gadget is…

        • I went to the product page (first hit after a google search), clicked Download Drivers, put in my OS (Win7x64) and language and it gave me two options, the with software version (84MB) and the without software version (11.5MB).

Both downloaded pretty quickly and I see no problem with them. The no software version you just have to point the driver installation wizard at the directory. This is great if you have your own scanning software and don't want extra crap installed. The with software version has some pretty basic scanning software and a basic printer status/settings application.

There are no "weird files", only drivers and relevant applications.

        • I just got one. plugged in the power cable. plugged in the USB. popped in the CD it came with. followed the prompts.

BAM. printer installed in less than 5 minutes. works a charm.

don't know what all the fuss is about.

(I'm using windows 7, 64 bit if your wondering)

How hard is it to connect via USB, insert the CD and follow the prompts?

I have 1 for home and one for the office. No problems at all.
They are both connected wirelessly and via cable.

    • I have this at home and I can assure that this is not the wireless model.

  • +1

I bought the wireless version and agree the initial setup was a bit tricky but once it's up and running, it's great. This is a great price for the non-wireless version and I'd pick this at this price if I didn't already get the wireless one.

Running costs of the toner inks on ebay are also surprisingly low, compared to other printers I've used.

I have the wireless version with fax. Works great but does require some expertise for wireless to be set up properly.

Print quality, though, is excellent and worth the hassle.

eyew can you provide some more info on generic toners you have used? Any recommendations? Do they have chips? Do they stuff up print quality eg streaking etc in any way?

Original toners are expensive at maybe $90 each colour.

      • got the wireless also, picture print quality is very good for a laser printer but of course inkjets are better. At least I don't have to worry about ink heads drying if not used for xx weeks.

  • Already have the printer only equivalent. Would have been really nice if it can do fax (but at this price, that's unrealistic expectation).

  • reviews are pretty bad…

  • +1

The price is OK yet the printers are very dificult to set up. Many people bought them and returned after giving up. MSY would not accept returns so buyers beware!

  • can be pricematched to officeworks

Just picked one up for a friend last week at OW for $215 :(

The box it comes in is pretty big! So if your car has a small boot, you will need to make sure it fits into the back seat or front seat. Alternatively, take the print out of the box (be careful, it's 15kg) and flat pack the box with it.

I have no idea why others find this hard to setup. I have used mine on windows 7 and a MacBook and both worked perfectly fine. Insert the cd and follow the prompts…
Excellent print quality and I get my toner from eBay http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/140906931851?nav=SEARCH&sbk=1 only $40 and lasts about a thousand pages :-)

  • tried to price match at officeworks. In WA, three units available in East Perth store, and one unit available in Fremantle. Act fast

    • please note, the availbility is on for OW, not for MSY.

I have this printer at home, originally purchased it at Officeworks for around $240. Seriously, this printer is excellent for its value. It is multifunctional, prints in colour and makes printing duplex (manual) easy. Those who said it was hard to set up is untrue. Honestly, you just need to be able to plug the power and USB cables, insert the CD and follow the prompts.

I have the wireless model, it did break within the year, but I think due to my sister's poor treatment.
However Fuji did replace it after trouble shooting, delivered a new printer and picked up the old.

They are a little pain to set up (the wireless model) - but once done, don't touch, work perfectly.
    A plus from me

  • p.s. it is kinda huge but for a small office it is perfect, unless you want wireless or fax, then get the next one up for around $250ish form OW

damn you ozbargain. i just pricematched at ow bondi. why do i need 4 laser printers?

    fantastic printer, setup in minutes.

  • I have the B/W version. brought from OW for $80 2 years ago. never get any problem. cheap toner on ebay. use light setting and toner last for a year. print/scan from USB. a little bit tricky for the first time setup. Cannot be recognized in linux or USB port in router, but with direct USB drive print, who need driver? overall, best printer I have ever had… willing to grab the color one and put the old one into gumtree :p

  • whoops i got negged because it looks like i bought 4. i only bought one, i already had 3 other mono printers.

  • any good on this baby?
