I know its less memory, but i'm thinking the 16GB 4th gen for $397 was much much better than this.

Agreed, especially when the iPad 5 is coming out any day now, this would be two generations behind!

      • Yeah agreed… When the iPad 5 comes out, which is likely to be very soon, suppliers will liquidate these suckers.

          suppliers will liquidate these suckers.

They already have been!!! Hence the Dick Smith deal posted 4 months ago!!!
These things would have to be some of the dregs of what's left over worldwide!!!

Personally I'd go this one for the storage. Other than adding a 128GB model, the 4th Gen wasn't much of a step up.

      • 4G LTE makes a massive difference if you were going down the cellular route

But this one is wifi only…

        • Lol one of the Features is…

          "Wireless and Cellular"

      • Depending on what you were using it for, you might notice a difference. The 4th gen is about twice the speed and has a better FaceTime camera. For general browsing, email and less demanding games, yes, not much difference.

Also, the upgrade to lightning means no fiddling around with 30 pin cables anymore. Keeps things standard if you have more than one Apple device.

        • +1

I have more than one Apple device… But I can't see how changing to a lightning cable makes it any less fiddly??? For me it would mean buying more lightning cables (for the computer, the car, for work!)
Personally speaking, I think Apple are a pain in the a$$ for changing it! And I think a lot of people and companies worldwide would agree!!!

        • I mean not having to have 2 cables connected to your PC to sync, charge etc.

Also, 30 pin was 10 years old, cumbersome, made devices larger… was it really that heartbreaking to see it go?

was it really that heartbreaking to see it go?

Kind of. Especially if you already have cables setup for several different locations, have radios, stereos, clocks, etc. that have the 30 pin, but mostly if you don't like paying $25 for what is effectively a $2 product!

        • +1

Fair enough. But you're an Ozbargainer, you don't pay more than $2 for lightning cables :)

  • It is only $100 off RRP when it was first released one and a half years ago? I won't even call it a good deal even if it is $479 after knowing DSE sold the 64gb cellular version for $359 months ago.

    • Agreed, there is clearly a lot more room to move on this product!!! (Not good enough!)
Edit: Don't get me wrong, it's a great product (I have one) if you don't need/want cellular, the 64GB is handy, and I'd prefer the old 30 pin as there's heaps of bargains to be had on accessories… But not at that price!

  • +1

    Not a good deal.

I didn't know USB plugs had nationalities!

I didn't know USB plugs had nationalities!

Yeah, the American ones are bigger, Asian ones are smaller and African ones come in a different colour!
But the ones in Australia… Just don't fn work!!!

  • IPad 3 ???

That is an orphan product, apparently it gets hot as well. No deal. It a few weeks these will be heaps cheaper as will the 4.
