    omg FWVGA screen,480X854…

    • OMG FWVGA!!!
A big improvement to my iPhone 3GS' resolution!!
      A good buy?
      Or a good-bye?

  • IDK about anyone else, but I would rather spend the extra (if I really wanted a Chinese phone) and get this instead: http://www.pandawill.com/ktouch-v8-smartphone-tegra-3-core-q…

    Tegra 3, 720p IPS screen… Just saying…

    • I thought Tegra CPUs were overrated? High heat and subsequent throttling meant lag spikes as the CPU attempts to cool down?

Agreed otherwise, pay a little more (maybe upto $50 more) and get something better, or at least with a 1280x720 screen. MT6589 + 1gb ram perform very well for most day to day activities.

      • +2

Don't buy Tegra 3. I have a LG Optimus 4x HD, runs like a frying pan and the thermal protection is so aggressive on the stock ROM that even games like Dead trigger start to lag on low graphics settings.

I would actually prefer the MTK6589 to be honest. Very power efficient and runs cool.

  • +1

I have a MTK6589 Star S7189 and it runs like a dream. Battery lasts for two days with wifi on. Best phone i've owned so far. Non Branded Chinese phones have come a long way and their C/P ratio is pretty good these days. Coming from HTC Velocity 4G. You may argue the screen resolution is average but for me it's good enough given it has a 5.3" screen.

    • +1

I have the Tronsmart TS7 (similar spec, slightly higher I think) and yeah, the battery life on the MTK6589 really amazed me too. I was looking at the Xperia Z but couldn't justify the price, mate got the Xperia and while it's a great phone, I still prefer mine :)

    • Can you please put the link to your phone. The website shows more tahn 50 phone with same number? I would like to try a good Chinese handset.

      • not sure if you refer to me. Here is the link

        http://www.focalprice.com/MH0508W/Star_S7189_50_Android_421_…

Once you register and get your email verified, you'll get a choice of getting a $8 off voucher or 5% off entired order.

ps, the downside for the phone is that there is no LED notification light so I install noLed app which runs fine.
The battery usage will become more accurate once you are done with few charging cycles.

Total $150 USD shipped after coupon. Took 2 weeks for delivery to Melbourne.

        • Does it have AMOLED or IPS display?

        • Thanks fchis. Looks like good phone.

        • It has AMOLED.

        • Cheers :)

        • Thanks, I already have a THL W100 which is a smaller cousin of this. Very tempting to buy this one :)

  • I'd love to find a non-brand phone that had the loud speakers on the front like the HTC One

  • being waiting for this one. I'm picking one up from china as my friend going back but still reasonable priced shipped.

    • Dual Sim Dual Standby
      2G: GSM: 900/1800/1900MHz
      3G:TD-SCDMA 1900/2100
Note:GSM is available for worldwide,TD-SCDMA is available for China only.

So you don't want a 3g phone in Australia?

Edit: seems to be an option?

  • +1

I ordered one, figured sameish dimensions as THLw100 but $20 cheaper, bigger battery which is more important to me than the resolution. I figure with the mtk and 2050 battery it should be a massive improvement to the battery life of the phone i have now. See how it goes.

    • resolution it's very important

      • +1

Yeah there are other factors, like my HTC velocity resets itself once a fortnight in the middle of a call. I'd be happy to give up a few pixels to avoid that.

Once you start looking at the 720p China phones, the 269 delivered 8gb nexus4 starts looking very tempting in comparison.

    • My order status is still processing. Do you know what your order status is?

  • There's obviously a lot of bias towards resolution here and who doesn't want as many pixels jammed into a phone as humanly possible but from what I can see we are looking a quad core phone for AUD$126 landed. Surely this is a bargain?

Everyone is talking about springing another $50+ for 720p. If anyone get get better res for this price let us know. Some of the alternative phones in this thread are also shown as out of stock so who knows if they will become available again.

    • You're right, I prolly should have plus-ed this deal :)

Although if US->AU conversion is done by tmart, then it's $133AU. There are quite a few alternatives at this price, some with better cameras, bigger batteries and higher res screens

The Pomp W89 is $138AU (without a discount) from geekbuying. I guess it depends on exchange rates and who's doing it.

      • +1

The reason i put $119.99 USD is because if someone has a 28 degree card, the final price will be around $128AUD which I think it's a genuine bargain for a Quad Core :)

  • Anyone know when the coupon expires? Post says 7/10 however haven't seen anything else at TMART.

    • coupon code :THXYOU
      Expire date: Oct. 06, 2013 (EST+5)

      • THX YOU :-)

I'm in for one, see how it goes.

        • cheers :)

  • Anyone get there phone yet?

    • If the phone was shipped from HK, the delivery takes 2 weeks. If it's from China, it'll be up to 4 weeks.

    • They shonked us with "in-stock", well me at least. My phone only shipped today. Have you checked your order status?

      • Yes, Mine shipped around the 13th apparently. so at leat another 11 days I suppose. I guess the stock level only made for a 5 day delay.

        • Mine has arrived yet. My tracking number doesn't work. I contacted TMart they told me that my package had been rejected by customs in China because it had a battery in it.
They told me that they reshipped 25/10 and gave me a new tracking number which is for Sweden! They claim it will be delivered to Australia. This tracking number also doesn't work.

Would love to know if you got yours or how it is tracking.

        • Yeah havent got mine yet either, suspect the same story as you.
