Retailers are required, by law, to accurately state regular prices. It would be more than the reputation of the company was worth, let alone the possibility of legal repercussions, to do otherwise.
I am aware of the law. My contention is that it is not followed. I'm a tad surprised at the downvotes to my comment. I guess people don't find the claimed prices alarmingly high before discount.
Which either means:
1) I am a dumb shopper who can't remember prices well.
2) They are dumb shoppers.

However, the items mentioned are on sale so often (especially when spread across retailers) that I feel their mean average price is much lower.

The 1/2 price savings claim seems a bit of a stretch.

just bought one for $3.50 at Auburn BigW NSW, No need to buy 5.
I just bought a few reams of Fuji Xerox from Officeworks for $2.50 a ream, that'll last me a few months, great deal.
$6.99 for 500 sheets of paper.
$3.19 for 200 grams of corn chips.
$1.85 for baked beans (or spaghetti) 420grams.
Are these REALLY the normal prices of these items in Woolworths?
Half-price. I have my doubts.
