[Price Error] New Channel Islands Surfboard "The 4" Dane Reynolds Model $15 RRP $895

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Found this randomly searching ebay.

Brand new Channel Islands The 4 surfboard. Current model - 98% off.

Looks like an extreme bargain, or the mohobu ebay account has been hacked. Strange, as there are a number of other items listed at the same time that are not so bargain like. The $6.95 shipping also makes me wary of a scam.

Either way, I've put in an order just in case.

We can hope!

      • from there ebay listing….

        Material:Cotton

good luck with your new cotton surfboard cover :)

        • -2

UM, SURE. Where do I select my size again…?

        • there are three listings on their ebay site for sizes for three sizes of 5'10, 6' and 6'2

        • -2

I was talking in reference to Nosdan's comment. He says that the surfboard is 'cotton', meaning clothing. But there is no size selection so…

        • Not sure why you're getting negged, this is almost certainly the case. If you buy this they are either just going to refund your money - or send you a surfboard cover.

        • +1

he's getting negged because there are racists on ozbargain.

  • +5

The fact that the listing actually says "RRP $895.00 NOW $15.00 SAVE 98%" is the only reason that this seems semi-legit, rather than a price error. Pity i have no use or room for a surfboard!

  • +2

Looks like it's getting ozbargained LOL

  • Worth the risk for sure.

  • +13

What the hell do I do with a surfboard ??? Ah well … ordered …

  • 50 sold in 5 minutes! Cant see this being honoured

lol doubt its not legit but even then wth am i gonna do with it

  • PayPal receipt says [email protected] so it doesn't seem like the money is going to the wrong place. What other 'hack' options would there be through eBay accounts?

    • +2

It's not a hack, they use a streamlined inventory system, once they enter in a new product/price it automatically lists/update across all e-commerce platforms including eBay. My guess is a price error, but nonetheless - worth the risk.

  • +12

  • What's the policy on eBay pricing errors?

I can picture tomorrow's email campaign already.. 'Surf Stitch-up'.

  • Anyone know what type board these are?

For a male around 70kg, what size would be best?

  • +2

This looks like a pricing error, if you see the description you can see it says "cotton".

Now if you look at the other items they sell, they sell "sox" for surfboards, i.e. surfboard covers.

Most likely they will just refund the orders as this is a clear error.

      • +2

Many e-commerce systems offer ebay integration. An error entered on the main site then appears on other systems that the information is pushed out too.

    • +1

haha will be funny when i few hundred people get a surfboard cover :)

    • +5

A surfboard cover cant be RRP$895

      • +3

It looks as though they've concatenated two sets of product information together by accident (the surfboard photos with the cover metadata), perhaps by doing a "sell another product like this" in whatever tool is being used. For instance on these ecommerce systems, if a product has a certain "tag" say, "sox", then you apply a blanket discount based on tag.

This would also explain the low shipping weight / low shipping price - as it's a cover.

    • Maybe they mean its made out of Kai Otton the winner of the Portugal Rip Curl?

  • +10

Meh. If they refund it, that means one free feedback!
    Yay!

  • +1

Wow what a bargain, and I'm 98% sure its a mistake.. For those who may potentially complain that their order was cancelled when you purchase the product you accept their T&C's as listed on their listing:

    Order Acceptance Policy
Your receipt of an electronic or other form of order confirmation does not signify our acceptance of your order, nor does it cons… etc etc etc .. You get the idea… similarly:

    Liability
mohobu is not liable for any losses or damages caused by this webstore or any webstore linked to or from this webstore. We reserve the right to refuse any order without giving reason. Upon cancellation of an order we will make all reasonable attempts to contact you using the details provided. All received monies will be refunded using the method received.

I suspect someone meant to reduce the price by 15% not make it $15 (maybe a new staff member who is not au fait with ebay)…

    • -3

This is via ebay, Easily to get refunded though paypal + leave negative feedback.

      • +13

That would be unfair to neg them for a pricing error - if it is a genuine error then it's not really something they could honour given the volume of orders and the product. If they were prats about giving an easy refund maybe, but otherwise it's a pretty mean thing to do to a business.

    • worth a try!

  • It's made of cotton.

    Item specifics
Condition: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item. See the seller's listing for full details.
    Brand: Channel Islands
    Material: Cotton

    Here is hoping!

  • Shipping through Surfstitch is $50 for me.

    • Buy on ebay for $6.95 shipping :)

      • I bought one through each channel!

  • Bought one. Time to learn how to surf!

  • +4

It is very nice to see that we only see orders of 1 and 2 boards … no one tried to order a higher number to resell in case this deal gets honoured! Great … there I see some true Ozbargain spirit … :-)

    • +5

Unfortunately, I have it feeling it has more to do with people having nowhere to store 50 surfboards…..

  • Or everyone receives a 4cm replica of the board. :)

    • will it come with a keyring attached?

    • +1

Well the Ebay listing has it's size as being 6' (about 180cm)…so if they did then they can dispute the payment and get a refund. Mind you, it is also described as being cotton. So it's all over the place.

    • haha yeah I was taking a close look to see if it was a replica too haha :~)

  • grabbed one, the waiting begins..

  • bought 2, no idea what to do with it, maybe a birthday present lol??

  • Clear Blend of single to double with vee 13"+ nose 15"+ tail with a double bump Fins.

    These are over 4metres?

  • +1

OMG I ordered one. THIS will be interesting…

When you click on Item revision you can see the history what the seller did to the item. What is very interesting is that they changed the quantity several times after the deal was already heavily purchased … the last revision was just 2 minutes ago …

It might be an automated update as people buy from their website.

    • +1

I think what has happened is that he thought he may only sell lets say 100. Turns out he sells 90 in an hour, he calls his supplier to update stock. I see nothing suss.

  • The ebay Surfstich listing has shipping listed in the description as $49.99 which matches what they have on their website.

  • +5

I hope they troll everyone and send out cotton surfboards.

    • -3

you can always return the item and get a refund! That would be a very stupid trolling IMHO

      • Haha true

  • +2

Good luck y'all, decided this time i would rather just hold on to my money then anticipate what already seems too good to be true :P

    • Yea, this is can only end it unfounded disappointment

  • The ones on eBay are 6ft…that isn't even in the range of the size chart above…

  • How do you select size?

*not actually rep for this store, needed to select rep status because I once posted a deal under my own ebay store

    • +1

you dont. There is only 6 or 6'2" available. They have separate listings

    • If you view the sellers other items then you can click the others. The OP listed one is 6'0. There are plenty of others the same price. I ordered a 6'2

  • funny that there has been 150 sold in the last 20 minutes or so but not 150 +'s

If you buy the deal, + the deal!

    • +2

not really! If you GET the deal, + the deal(especially if it's a pricing error and it doesn't get honoured)

    • +2

I'd imagine 9 in 10 ozbargain readers don't have accounts. That's a pretty standard ratio on deals.

      • i hadn't thought of that, i just figured anyone who reads the site has an account.
