[Price Error] New Channel Islands Surfboard "The 4" Dane Reynolds Model $15 RRP $895

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Found this randomly searching ebay.

Brand new Channel Islands The 4 surfboard. Current model - 98% off.

Looks like an extreme bargain, or the mohobu ebay account has been hacked. Strange, as there are a number of other items listed at the same time that are not so bargain like. The $6.95 shipping also makes me wary of a scam.

Either way, I've put in an order just in case.

We can hope!

      • 9/10 ozbargainers don't read comments, but do buy insane priced deals on impulse, this is what we like to see :P

  • Please don't buy if you don't know how to swim. Just because you know how to swim in a pool, does not necessarily qualify yourself as an ocean swimmer.

nothing ventured nothing gained. Who care if it's a pricing error and gets refunded. Wow, what a find, thanks to OP.

    • +6

lol! This has been said before on these types of deals, then you see a few hours/day later a lot of grumpy people waiting for their refund!

    • Maybe a "+" for the OP?

  • There's also 5.8 size.

I wonder if Surfstitch has any free shipping deals at the moment.

    • yes they do - buy 2 for $30 and get free shipping…

  • +2

I just received feedback from surfstich
"Great communication. A pleasure to do business with."

  • +20

OK I have called them, it was a toll free number it is a pricing error. They are trying to fix it. The item are surfboards and not surfboard covers.

    • +3

why do they keep adding different sizes then?

    • +2

When I called I got a please call during business hours message….

    • are they honoring the purchases?

      • +2

No. Said they will be issuing refunds soon.

  • -2

Apparently you get $20 off for signing up to Surfstitch. Looking into it now.

    • +1

      $100 minimum spend

      • +2

        7 surfboards?

    • I thought for shipping,

  • See below for a list of shipping costs for extra heavy or bulky items.

Large Surfboard Rack*s and Multi Surfboard Travel Covers - $19.99

    Bodyboards - $29.99

    SURFBOARD and Softboards - $49.99

Meant to have $50 shipping… what is going on here?

  • Being 90kg, I'm guessing these are all too small for me?

  • Fingers crossed!

    • I have called them it is a price error.

      • I called them too. They are going to issue refunds.

        • Thank you for the clarification aacheney and alive3!

Shame it was an error…I quite fancied watching the postman try to get a surfboard up the driveway :)

  • +1

Not even sure what my size is, should've have really done some researching before buying.

  • Were they meant to put $150? lol forgot a zero?

    • more likely they meant to put 15% the price not the price of $15

  • Jumped on it.
PayPal buyer protection is there anyway :P

  • +1

Even if its a pricing error I wonder how they will go about it on ebay? if they refund the money there will probably still a crapload of people leaving negative feedback which will cripple them or they loose out on the cost of the boards.

    • +2

nah you can get negs removed from ebay easy enough anyway. ive had several dodgy sellers have my negs removed. there may also be avenues because its a large business to stop you being able to neg for this deal.

    • +1

Cant leave a negative feedback if the item is cancelled
Usually requires both parties to agree but if seller has a merchant account they can do it without your approval.
So wont be much neg feedback being left if they cancel them

  • Someone find me a $15 longboard instead, I want to learn how to ride one! (I'm in my mid 30's too, so some kind of camouflage kit would be nice too, so I don't look like a doofus)

    • -1

They sell sleepers for $15 at bunnings :P I have not tested their ability to float, but they are long.

      • I'm using the term longboard re: skateboard - I don't know if it applies to surfing also.

  • +1

Given they have manually added a subtitle to the listing stating
    'RRP $895.00 NOW $15.00 SAVE 98%'
I cannot see how this price is an error as this is a manually written section of a listing, not automated.

    • +5

No it's automatic. You apply a discount and the web template is parsed by the interpreter/compiler and then the description reflects the new values.

      i.e. RRP {$product -> originalprice} NOW {$product -> discountprice} SAVE {$product -> discountsaving}

    • +3

what makes you think they added anything manually? lol

go take a look at some of the ebay automated seller tools :)

  • Ordered even though I'm fairly positive it's an error. But Paypal refunds are easy, so no problems having a go.

  • A 4" surfboard would be incredibly hard to ride :P

    • +2

A cotton one would be hard to ride too lol

    • I better get my mind out of the gutter whenever someone mentions 4"

  • Great! Now I just need to learn how to swim and surf!

  • -4

Hey guy's just bought 15 for each of my kids, great deal op, and free shipping yay!

    • +1

How did you get free shipping?

    • +4

You have 15 kids! You really working hard

      • +3

No, he bought 15 for each of his kids, just in case they break 14 they each still have another.

        • +1

lol! Yes interesting. There's a bit of ambiguous wording in the original comment.

You can never own enough soon to be refunded surfboards.

    • +1

      deal has been broden'd

  • I m u s t r e s i s t … . . N O T!!!

  • haha someone ordered 20…

    • lol ebay says 323 sold! that's about 250 in 1 hr 12 mins.

I wonder why they haven't gone into their ebay account (or shop) and deleted/edited the product lol!

  • +4

I'd make the popcorn now, but I think it will get cold before things get interesting.

    • +1

Yup wait a few more hours lol for the "official" statement once a few more thousand boards have been sold lol! Then the raging comments will come.

  • I ordered one….will see what happens.

    • +3

Indeed you will. Refunds, like fezzes, are cool.

      • +1

        Bowties too :)

  • +4

confirmed pricing error. no deal unfortunately.

    • Called then too. All orders will be refunded.

  • Oddly enough, surf stitch and Mohobu appear to have placed up another 3-4 listings each of the same item in the past 10 minutes

  • +3

I'm in for a board.. AND I actually surf, 3-4 days a week with a 2+ year old board. So I deserve this board, not like all you professionals! :)

This will actually be interesting to see what they do with this if it is a mistake as surfstitch has a nice 99.9% rating, and mohobu has 99.8.

    • +1

I don't think deserve is the right word to use LOL.

    • We're not worthy. I can barely swim, can't surf and definitely can't stitch.

  • +2

Futures Fins will be having a field day If this does go through. I hope you realise this board does not come with a set of fins right?!? :)

  • Who cares! lol I bought it anyway. two boards. nice find OP!

    • Only people that don't want to lose access to some of their money for up to two weeks :~) (paypal, credit card refund… delays).

Otherwise.. GREAT DEAL YAY :P You get: nothing… you wait: up to 10 days.

  • +1

I can actually buy 50 of these and set up my own eBay store.

    • So… now we discover who's buying up all the surfboards :P

  • +9

Love it how people are still ignoring the absurd discount, the wonky description and multiple comments confirming it's a mistake and just going ahead and ordering LOL.

    • +9

gotta be in it to win it

      • gotta risk it to get the biscuit.

        • +1

this deal does not include biscuits :P

        • +1

          plenty of crackers tho

    • +4

That's what you do mate, it's OzBargain and we are all certified professionals!

    • -1

There's no downside, only upside. There's still a small chance they may honour the purchase, it has happened before, albeit restricted to one piece per person.

      • +4

        How small are we talking?

A business giving away 1000 surfboards at a $880 discount (including shipping … maybe $930) is likely to lose, $930,000 and get in payments (15 + 6.95 per "board"), $21,950. I don't think this will happen! They may however offer a discount coupon towards some future purchase.

        • I just can understand why they havent pulled product from Ebay. They have known for quite a while now.

        • +2

Very good logic. but logic doesn't got far when people have a bargain in their eyes!!

I'm negging it not as a reflection on the OP but because it is obviously a mistake.

        • +2

Yes I also negged the deal in order to get the deal removed from the front page (it's an automated process once some ratio is reached I believe).

        • Duplicate comment. Neg to hide.

    • +4

Indeed.. Common sense usually flies out the window when a discount reaches over a threshold of 80% and above… Not uncommon to see posts with 'I don't actually need it, but it's a good price so I bought'.

It is one thing to be a thrifty / bargain shopper and another being a silly shopper.. Surfboard for $15 - right…. on which planet or time?

      • +2

Yes it seems a bit like a psychological effect, whereby greed (and trying to get in first) overtakes rationality. This can be seen in queueing in the UK too :P

Also only a few people have negged the deal, most people appear to be giving +ve without reading comments / assessing the nature (and/or reality) of the deal which appears to be spreading like wildfire :P LOL. The +ves to negatives is huge atm (124 to 5).

On the first page, MOST of the comments have + green next to them, so, I suppose people scan the comments, see the +ves and think the deal is legit.

  • -3

    bought two, YOLO.

    • +7

      You only "yolo" once.

      • true that, I actually yolo'd twice…..damn.

  • Bought one anyways,
maybe they will honour it like JB hifi did with the sony charger? ;)

  • Even if only 1 % of the ppl gives a negative feedback on ebay, they will have an enormous reduction in feedback score :o

  • +4

Let the whinging about refunds begin…….

    • won't be long now :P

  • what size should i pick?

those under 6' boards would be too short for anyone except kids, according to this chart:
    http://www.surfertoday.com/board-size-chart/surf?gclid=CPjvk…

    is it?

  • Would have been a good item to display at home

  • +13

For about 5 minutes there I actually thought I was about to take up surfing

    • lol same here… I was reminiscing my teenage years and thinking to take up surfing again just last night. Then I see this deal.. damn haha

    • Yeah I was keen, suddenly I thought about riding the waves, most likely though it would become an ornament in my house lol.

    • lol. My husband was the same.
