[Price Error] New Channel Islands Surfboard "The 4" Dane Reynolds Model $15 RRP $895

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Found this randomly searching ebay.

Brand new Channel Islands The 4 surfboard. Current model - 98% off.

Looks like an extreme bargain, or the mohobu ebay account has been hacked. Strange, as there are a number of other items listed at the same time that are not so bargain like. The $6.95 shipping also makes me wary of a scam.

Either way, I've put in an order just in case.

We can hope!

Waiting for the inevitable comments about ASIC, Fair Trading, unfair, binding contract, took my money so owe me a surfboard, etc etc.

Seller assumes all responsibility for this listing.

  • +1

Well this is a sure-fire way to quickly get access to $15000 in your Paypal account.

    • rofl yes, not the best way to fund a business though :P

  • +3

Lets go surfin now…Everybody's learning how…Come on and safari with me…

    What? Pricing error?

    Pls, i cri

    • +1

If they actually did ship these boards, some surf instructors will get a new influx of business lol!

  • As a surfer this is rediculous. I (hopefully) just bought all my boards for the next 4 years!

    • +18

should spend less time surfing and more time learning to spell the word ridiculous

      • +7

a true surfer would have said "gnarly"

  • Someone at Surfstitch will be sacked tomorrow morning.

There's no way you will receive the board or boards, but didn't stop me from purchasing 2 as what's the worst that can happen?

For all those who think there just kids boards your 100% wrong, the 6'2" will float you very well as they have a lot of volume, the perfect small wave board.

    • +4

The worst that can happen by you buying these boards is:

"Someone at Surfstitch will be sacked tomorrow morning." :P

  • ok ordered 2 and got free shipping… the ebay auctioneer had 21,000 feedback points and is a rated seller…. Hmmmm this will be interesting… $30!!

  • +2

As a Billabong share holder (who partly own Surfstitch) i feel guilty for ordering the boards, but am just expecting a refund.

    • +2

Since when can Borat afford shares?

      Very nice!

      • +2

lol, since he made all that money on that movie :P

      • +1

Borat bought them at 13c each and looks forward to surfing a new Al Merrick in a mankini.

    • +1

Borat, As a BBG shareholder you deserve some cheap surfboards to make up for those sharemarket losses. ROFL. Don't feel guilty.

      • BBG at 13c no way, great investment and currently 40c.Partial takeover will happen very soon after shareholder approval.
But yes i always deserve cheap boards:)

  • +1

    Any deals on roof racks?

  • -1

    Damn it, I bought 2, now it's pricing error….

  • +1

Obviously an error (now confirmed). Voting to remove from front page.

  • +3

Lol, another time that I I've purchased before reading comments. It's probably for the best, I can only imagine the look on my wife's face if a surfboard arrived at the front door when I refuse to even swim in a pool.

Negged because - price error, confirmed multiple times by Ozbargain members (unless they all run competing surf shops and are buying up big).

  • -Ve so people (who are still buying!) might start reading the comments. Great deal if this were happening though.

  • So… ordered 2.

Any good deals on surfing lessons?

    • +4

No but we are offering good lessons on how to spot a mis-priced or erroneous deal!

  • +1

    " 882 sold in 24 hours " lol

  • This is just like Kogan! We got Kogan'd! >:(

    • +4

well no, if kogan advertised the fone for $15 maybe…. the kogan deal was close to a believable price. there was no way this was genuine right from the very start

  • +1

    Why bother wasting your time?

  • +1

Hoping I don't get some sort of surfboard cover…

    • +3

      It's like 1 click on PayPal…

  • In the likely case of it being a price error, how much would it cost to send it back through Australia Post?

    • +1

      eh?

firstly you cant send anything over 1M through oz post… but this IS a pricing error so you wont ever receive it

  • -5

    Confirmed! It's authentic. It's a giveaway…not :-)

    • lol very funny :P

  • Imagine all of the negative feedbacks. They'll probably need to create a new account.

    • Has anyone got an authentic extreme bargain like this from EBay?

      • Many times

Mostly on promotions where you pay the freight only to build up new ebay accounts.

    • Take your money? Just lodge a paypal dispute, no problem.

    • these links are still working.

  • -5

I highly doubt this is a pricing error….but it might be a hack or a scam or some sorts

    • It's a pricing error.

  • No link are working now from surfstitch, Ebay & Mohobu.

Zarcady these are the best surf online stores worldwide so it's no scam or hack. Surfstitch has won many awards for being the best online retailer and available in Europe, US and Aus, owned by Billabong.

Computer genius John McAfee has dropped a bombshell on Obamacare enrollees warning Fox News that Obamacare websites have no way at all to protect those who enroll from hackers robbing their bank accounts blind.

  • +6

Well at least I got a free (+) feedback :)

  • I kind of feel bad for these guys; a simple pricing error and now imagine the amount of effort it's going to take to cancel 966 orders. Hopefully they can batch do it at once.

    • +11

Hopefully they can batch do it at once.

That sort of approach got them in this trouble

      • +2

I feel empathy for a business that made a pricing mistake they won't be able to afford and now it's someone's job to fix it up.

Imagine going into work Monday morning and you have to manually cancel 966 orders.

        • Yeah and knowing ebay/paypal it will be extremely hard for them to get the ebay/paypal fees back from all the orders that are going to be canceled.

        • +4

The PayPal Fee's are automatically re-embursed once refunded as the Fee's are taken from the monies receive ie. If you they received $15.00 and the fee was 60c, they would only receive $14.40.

The eBay Fee's on the other hand, they will need to send a Mutual Cancellation Request to get the fee credit back, and every user will need to accept that as a mutual term. I'd assume not many would.

2000 sales x $15.00 ($30,000)-7.50% Final Evaluation Fee for (Fashion, Tech accessories, Media & Collectables = $2,250.00 Loss on eBay Fee's alone. This is only estimated on 2,000 sales though. They may be more or less.

Note: Remember you do not get any percentage of fee's on the Postage and Handling amount.

    • -3

Yep exactly, unfair that people tried to take advantage of this company with an obvious pricing error on such a large scale for such a large amount. The only ever action was going to be a refund.

Thanks for placing an order with SurfStitch eBay or Mohobu eBay store.

Unfortunately an error was made with the listing price of the Channel Islands 4 By Dane Reynolds
Groveler Surfboard. This board retails for $895.00 and we temporarily had it listed for $15.00.

It looked too good to be true because it was. For that we are really sorry and would like to try and make
amends as best we can with a sitewide 25% discount on our main website www.surfstitch.com
valid for a short time. Please scroll for details.

Your order has now been cancelled and your payment will be returned via PayPal within the next
48 hours. Again, we apologise if we have caused you any inconvenience.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our customer service team.

    SurfStitch - [email protected]
    Mohobu - [email protected]

We can appreciate that such a small slip of the keyboard has caused you disappointment and for that,
the whole SurfStitch family is truly sorry. Our heads are hanging low today, we hope you'll forgive us
and we promise to be more careful!

    Kind regards,

    The team at SurfStitch.com

Let the ACCC and Department of Fair Trading comments start pouring in.

      • +1

        Completely unreasonable.

        • -4

You think. Don't let that little thought stop you, I once received threats of violence and death for telling Pizza Hut about a coupon that was giving free items on Facebook, resulting in 4-5 members being banned. You have no idea….

        • You what?
… where are my pliers …

      • +1

lol yes there will be people out there wondering why they didn't get an $895 surfboard for $15 at a 98% discount. LOL.

      • You're a dope for ordering in the first place and an even bigger dope to think they would honour it AND AN EVEN BIGGER DOPE complaining to ACCC for this.

    • 25% of orders over $60 or 25% off regardless.

    • Great response from Surfstich.

Set the right tone, while making clear what we already knew:
It looked too good to be true because it was.

  • 25% off storewide is a pretty good outcome. I wasn't expecting anything besides a refund.

Now we just have to use the collective to find something thats a great bargain when 25% is taken off.

    • Yeah, by rights they could have just made it 25% off surfboards only.

Now… Lets get some 25% off bargains posted up in here yo!

    • I think shipping is free too for items over $25.

I think you get $20 off next purchase if you join their newsletter list, but don't know if they're stackable.

    • +2

um, they just had a 30% off Sale Item Order over $60 at SurfStitch.com w/ Free Shipping

  • +3

I had a refund from an A-mart sports pricing error and they sent me a $20 voucher sent to me to apologise. It seems like most companies are handling these situations much better and learning from the negative experiences of others.

Trouble is that some people may exploit this and knowingly make a purchase on a obvoius price error and expect something back when it is cancelled and be upset when it is not.

I really think companies should put a system in place where the funds are not deducted until the item is confirmed as shipped.

  • 25% makes the GoPro Hero3+ black edition ~$329

    • +4

The 25% discount has so many exclusions you can hardly buy anything,

    • Gopro is an excluded item

  • Is there a minimum spend for the 25% discount? if not it would make these wallets very cheap which are already 40%-60% off.

what a crock of …. given a 25% off voucher for trying to buy a surfboard.

25% off voucher does not apply to surfboards. whaaaat!

    • +4

*Given a refund, an apology and 25% off for a surfboard you probably didn't want anyway.

      • +2

believe it or not, I actually wanted the surfboard. I agree though, most didn't.

  • Got the email too!

Really nice to see how they are handling this situation when it really was us taking advantage of an obvious price error.

Anyway, terms of the sitewide* 25% off:

"Discount does not apply to Surfboards, Softboards, camera accessories, cameras, bicycles, Go Pro, Solid Racks, G-Star, Dr Denim, Stone Fox Swim, Beach Riot, Beats by Dre, Jets, Tigerlilly, Gift Cards or Gift Wrapping."

    Expires this Wednesday 23/10.
    No minimum spend.
    Includes sale items.
Also for those wondering if you can stack coupons, you can only use 1 coupon at a time.

    • I just got a pair of snowboard pants and beanie (both already discounted) for $78 delivered after a further 25%. I can't complain and am pretty happy with that considering it was a pricing error.

  • I was looking through the sale items thinking about what to get then all of a sudden no more items are on sale on Surf Stitch.

Nvm, Items started showing again. Think the prices may have changed slightly.

  • I've been trying to get through the checkout for 20 minutes. What's the deal? Anybody else having troubls getting through the checkout or signing up?

    • Nope, went through checkout 10 minutes ago, was all good!

      • Existing account or new customer?

        • Oh, existing account. Might make a difference!

        • It seems registration is just down.

  • It would be cool if they sent out at least one of the $15 surfboards in some type of raffle with the people who bought in.

    • -1

That would require government gaming licences etc.

  • "We can appreciate that such a small slip of the keyboard has caused you disappointment"

Going by this I'm wondering what it was meant to be originally discounted to $150?

Maybe it was an unhappy employee instead, who knows.

  • Received 1 refund.
    Still waiting on the second.

Anyone else in the same situation?

    • Yep. I got the email saying it had been refunded, but still haven't got the money back in my paypal account.

    • Had the same problem, might be an oversight.

Just email them through eBay and the rep will push the refund through themselves.

      • it might be still "Pending"

  • Has every1 got refund yet? I still havent
