  • Can the phone use also as a normal home phone?

    • Yes, you don't need to use the door bell.

      • Yeah …

"This useful package combines a door intercom / doorbell and a cordless phone all-in-one. It’s perfect for small businesses or households as the cordless phone will alert you when someone is at the door and allow you to communicate with them."

  • How long after signing up for hot deals sub does it usually take for the $5 voucher to come?

    • Mine took about 5min before I got it.

    • Took five days for mine to arrive. I'd already gone to a shop and bought it, as I was worried they'd sell out before the voucher arrived.

    • I got the email in 10 minutes.

  • How long before pickup are available?

Wow, great price! I bought two sets last time and they work extremely well.

Here's the user manual PDF if anybody wants to read up on features before purchasing:
    http://www.uniden.com.au/RESOURCES_MAIN/pdfs/UWG_200_OM.pdf

    Good points:
    * The doorbell has great range and it's handy being able to chat with people at the front door using the intercom
    * Very clear speakerphone. Much better than the other Uniden phones I've owned.

    Bad points:
    * Not many ring tone choices. They seem to be either piercing electronic noises or quirky tunes. I had to get used to listening to the Can Can each time the phone rings, as the other 'ringing' tones were piercing and annoying. The doorbell noise is the only pleasant noise and while it could be used for the ringtone, then there would be no easy way to differentiate a phone call from the door bell.
    * Two people can't listen to the same call using two handsets. My brother and I can't chat to grandma at the same time from different rooms like with most phones. A call must be transferred to another handset before they can talk and the original listener must hang up, which isn't as simple as it should be.
    * Both doorbell and page functions share the same sound, so there's fast no way to tell if the bell sound is somebody waiting at the door or somebody using a handset in another room who wants to talk to you. You can look at the handset and see that it's '#3' calling (doorbell) or '#2' (another handset) but having a different tone would be much more user friendly.
    * The speaker is on the back of each handset, so if you place it on its back on a bed or couch, the sound is muffled and nearly impossible to hear, but if placed face down you can't see who is calling without picking the thing up.
    * While you can name individual handsets on the handset itself, the name does not show up on other handsets. So to page 'Upstairs Office' you have to remember 'Upstairs Office' is number #5, and 'Downstairs Office' is #4 etc. The previous model of Uniden handsets I used previously showed a named list on each handset, so nobody has to remember the assigned numbers.
    * One doorbell MUST be assigned to #3, which is confusing if have 'Storeroom 3' but can't make it #3, because the doorbell must be #3.
    * Handset display is quite difficult to read, awful compared to other models but just barely readable enough to work.
    * Phonebooks must be set up separately for each handset, as entered numbers are not automatically sent out to each other handset, as happened with my other Uniden phones. This is a bit annoying if you have four handsets, as a simple change of number must be done separately for all four handsets. Same with daylight savings time updates, they must be done for each handset separately.
    * Doorbell is ugly! But it works, so I put up with it. Can be powered from batteries or external power. It can also be connected to a gate solenoid, so you can talk to a person over the intercom then 'buzz them in'.
    * There's no way to stop the doorbell ringing without 'answering' it. The bell automatically stops after about a minute, but if you're already standing near the door when somebody rings the bell, it will just keep ringing and all the phones in the house will keep ringing until somebody picks up and hangs up.

I read this "…and they work extremely well" and thought yay!
Then I read 2 GOOD bullet points to 10 BAD bullet points and thought nah.

Kudos on the detail though - if only every deal received that type of critique.

@hoondaboy, the phones work extremely well as phones, and the doorbell works well, calls are very clear and the speakerphone is excellent. The handsets are also very sturdy, I forgot to mention that as a good point. As a phone/doorbell/intercom I couldn't be happier. My dad's hard of hearing but he can use these phones with ease, unlike our old set which were very hard for him to use.

I listed as many bad points as possible (some aren't even bad, they're just not ideal) because sometimes just one of those points might be a deal-breaker for somebody, and it saves people the trouble of buying it and finding out it's no good for them. If you can live with those bad points (or they are non-issues) go ahead and buy a set, you'll probably love it.

yep I also find the letters and numbers hard to read. They may as well give us predator glyphs.

    • More bad than good?

      • +2

If you actually read the bad points, you might find they are non-issues. Most people wouldn't even notice those issues anyway, I'm just very picky. If you want a basic phone/intercom/doorbell/speakerphone, the phone is fantastic, and for this price almost unbelievably good.

For some people, some of the bad points for this UNIDEN might be GOOD points. I don't like how two handsets can't listen in to the same call, but for some people this would be a GOOD point for security, so family members or other office workers can't eavesdrop on their calls.

Thanks OP, bought one. Like the button, big enough for my folks.

  • Bought one thanks. Definitely worth the buck. I got $10 one as well But I prefer this one.

  • Good deal. Bought one for my folks to replace their currently cordless phone which is slowly dying.

Now to wait till HN say it's ready then I can head to store and pick this up as well as my $9 travel router!

  • Wonder if the door bell (and hand sets) can be registered with my Uniden DECT1535 base?
Also, how is the door bell powered?

edit I suppose I can try.
    from the manual

"The wireless doorbell comes pre-registered to the base unit. If you need to register,
first hold on the bottom of the base for 5 seconds or longer then release it. Second, press the Call button of the outdoor bell then press and hold the Register key on
the back of the doorbell unit for 5 seconds or longer then release."

    • I tried but had no luck registering these with other DECT bases.

The door bell runs off two C batteries, or can be powered from a 12V DC supply.

      • +1

FYI, I believe you can only register these phones (and not other Uniden models). However, you can register 4 phones and one door bell. I bought 2 packs a few months ago and have registered 4 phones to one base. Plus you have a spare door bell for later.

Very basic phone, but awesome door bell and intercom that will ring 4 handsets spread over my house. Never miss the pizza delivery guy again!

So 4 handset system with doorbell for $56. Bargain!

        • You can also register three phones and two doorbells, which would be handy if you have easily accessible front and back doors. I tested it and it worked fine. The first doorbell must always be registered as #3 but the second doorbell can be any number. It would seem you always have to have at least one doorbell registered, so you can't use it with five handsets.

I considered using two doorbells here, but having four handsets is far more useful to us.

  • Bought one. Thanks.

  • Ordered one, Thanks!

  • Urgh, their frigging website is down right now. So annoying!
[EDIT] yay, just scored one for $23 with the $5 voucher. Pickup from Gordon.

  • Will the door bell break if exposed under the sun and rain?

    • The doorbell is definitely NOT waterproof in any way shape or form, so rain would be very bad for it.

Not sure about sunlight. It's white in colour so should last longer than black models, but only time will tell.

  • Door bell? No thanks as some door to door sales will just wait there till someone opens the door as now they no longer need to knock them-self, the door bell does that for them!

    • +1

If you have elderly at home. This door bell thing comes in handy. Just install it in the bathroom. If they take a fall or having a heart attack in the bathroom at least theres an emergency button to press… considering theres other people in the house to pick up the calls.

  • Thanks OP, just bought one. I wish I had t read about the $5 for signing up to Hot Deals before I'd bought it :-P

  • Is anyone else experiencing loud high pitch interference while talking on the phone?

    • i did notice a bit of static noises.

  • Had anyone received the email to pickup?

  • I elected for click and collect, but since Monday haven't been able to access my email address that I use so haven't gotten the final order number to go and collect it. I have another order ready to pick up and was wanting to get them at the same time but not sure how I'd be able to pick up the phone without the order number?

Does anyone know if you can do it with just your drivers licence and the original email they sent about it? I'm sure it'd be ready to pick up by now..

  • Just bought one 1/2 an hour ago; the sales assistant was happy to offer above price - did not check the online price
