Just got return tickets to KUL for $804 (with 1 infant ~ $48?) over the Chinese New Year period. I think this is a pretty good price for a full-service airline. If you're happy with other departure times, you might be able to get away with paying about $717 per person. Inclusive of taxes etc.

Travel period: 16 January - 19 June 2014

Similar travel dates with Emirates (with less convenient departure times) were $743, I think.

  • Hi, just wondering which part of Australia are you from?

  • on a budget airline I can get the family (2x adults + 2 children) return tickets SYD to KUL for about $1100. I missed on the sale that got me interested in the budget airline option and ended up paying $1470 for the family. I waned to lock in the trip.

Mind you, I'm not saying my fare is better. I fly in at 4AM!!!

    • dude….

    • +1

Correct. There was a flight from KUL-MEL at the lower fare, but departing at 10am. Assuming that you need to be at the airport 3 hours earlier, 1 hour travel time to Sepang International Airport, we would need to leave the house at 6am. With a 1-year old? No thanks. :P

  • I got my tickets when both Air Asia and Malaysia Airlines were having sale. Flying out of Perth with AA and coming back with MAS.

    Air Asia (PER-KUL) = $159
    Malaysia Airlines (KUL-PER) = RM510 = A$170
    Total return = A$329

If you are from Melbourne, looking at today's price from both airlines and assuming you are flying back for Chinese New Year for two weeks 24th Jan - 9th Feb, here is the break down:

    Air Asia (MEL-KUL) = $249
    Malaysia Airlines (KUL-MEL)= RM950 = A$317
    Total return = A$566

P/S: I'm not saying amelyn's deal is bad, just pointing a budget option :)

    • Yep the flight i booked home from KL to Sydney for next February cost me $118

  • I pick up Brisbane to KL for $299 return with Airasia. So no deal for me here either.

  • Last time I checked, all flights from SYD are on A330, and given the major update of their Economy cabin in terms of seat, IFE etc. (Business is meh…) on the A330s, this is a very big step up from AirAsia.
