  • crazy good price

i personally have one - best hackintosh netbook you can get atm

you'd also want to upgrade the SSD and RAM to boost performance

Is this with or without Bluetooth?

    • +1

on DELL, it claims to be an option, owner bought from HT says BT is included, please call HT to confirm.

Better netbooks can be had for the same price or slightly more. Not sure why people see the appeal of a clunky dell with only a 16GB SSD.

If you're after a really cheap Netbook, COTD have an Acer with SSD for $420 after rebate and shipping here:

you consider Acer and CatchOfTheDay is better??? no thanks!!

That was just an example of a similar specced ultra cheap netbook (except for the slightly smaller SSD HDD). I dont endorse Acer or COTD but I certainly dont rate Dell highly at all for their poor quality service either.

You want a decent netbook? Get an MSI Wind or a Lenovo S10 and fork out the extra $100, its well worth the cost.

        • Also note that this only includes a 4-cell battery.

Getting the actual rebate from Acer can be difficult if not impossible. Many threads on Whirlpool about people not getting rebates and getting the run around. Plus that Acer is an 8 gig SSD + additional 8 gig SD card.

Re: rebates, I think they might be the exception rather than the rule. I bought 2 24' monitors during the cashback period and had no trouble getting the rebate. Took them a while, but it came through within their specified time frame.

Noslee: I bought one from HT months ago. It DOES come with BT. Call them if you want clarification.

Cobalt: Of course better netbooks could be had but this is old tech now. I would put this behind the Asus and MSI only b/c of the smaller screen, battery and 16Gb SSD but it is far from the worst.

My general comment is there are better netbooks out there for around the same price. Each to their own I guess.

      From MSY:
      Lenovo S10 ATOM 1.6G/1G/160G/CAM/10.2”/XP HOME - $539
      Lenovo S10G-6Cell Battery ATOM 1.6G/1G/160G/CAM/10.2”/XP HOME - $575
      ASUS EeePC 904HA-BLK005X ATOM N270 1.6G/1GB/160G/8.9”/XP HOME - $529

      Eee Comparison Spec Sheet Here:
      http://event.asus.com/eeepc/comparison/eeepc_comparison.htm

Paying an extra $30 for the Asus 904HA which is a vastly superior netbook is certainly a worthwhile alternative.

Friend just picked up the Dell from Office works, OW price matched so he got 5% off the price so got it for cheaper again :)

As for the Lenovo pricing above

Just remember the Lenovo S10 is matte screen with 3 cell battery and the S10G is gloss screen with 6 cell battery.

Can we upgrade it to 2gb ram? or what type of ram does it use? can we upgrade our own?

    • +1

most netbooks work on 2GB DDR2 667 So-dimm, since Atom's bus speed is just 533mhz. you can grab one from most PC shops for $30-$40. it all depends on how easy you can access the RAM slot. have a search in youtube, most netbook upgrades are shown.

  • I got mine for free from Dell (with purchase of another laptop), but it is certainly a great little netbook. Much easier to take on holidays than my normal laptop! I upgraded mine to 2GB with Kingston RAM KVR800D2S5/2G. So 533MHz or 800MHz RAM will work fine. Only one RAM slot though — anyone want to buy my old 1GB stick? ;)
