Does your network provider charge per word? :)

Good price on the GTX though +1

  • Short and sweet

Btw, this comes with nVidia's holiday game bundle, which includes Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, and Batman: Arkham Origins. Proof is here (and I confirmed by talking to an Amazon rep): http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=br_lf_m_7730641011_grlink_4?ie=U…

This actually makes this an insanely good deal. We were discussing it on Whirlpool and I was going to post it here but clearly have been beaten :)

It's happening, the monstrous 780 is coming into the land of the affordable, so close!

    • +2

Yep, I'm still waiting for sub $500

      • Beaker!!! Ahhh man what a dream moment it would be to hit the checkout button with a 780 at below 500 in the cart, one day it will happen! Beaker!!!

Nvidia dropped the price of the standard 780 GTX to $500 USD (from $650) to compete with the AMD R9 290X. They also announced a 780 GTX Ti.

    Every1 Relax!

GTX780 will be coming down to similar price ranges due to the release of the the GTX780ti.
The GTX780ti will be a beast and it is to take on the R9 290X and their competitive prices.

Just Keep waiting and these prices will drop!

    • Yes, but the games bundle is not coming to Australia. If you want a GTX 780 I think this is the best deal you'll see for it.

  • Great price.

Here's some benchmarks, including a comparison of how it compares to the 7950 for a bit less than half this price in today's other big GPU deal:

    http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/855?vs=827

    • Wow I would have expected idle power consumption and temperatures to be higher but in fact it appears to be the other way around.

  • Damn, was ready to pull the trigger, but it's not a reference PCB, so can't put a waterblock on it :(

Probably for the better though, my dual GTX670s will still outperform a single 780.

  • What kind of motherboard would you combine with this beast?

    • +1

Depends more on the CPU. Motherboard choice makes no difference to the GPU you get, unless you want multiple GPUs.

      • Let's say i7 4770, and GPUs in SLI

        • +1

          I'd suggest an Asrock Z87 Extreme 3.

        • -3

          Any Z87 based board really.

        • +1

*Z87. Z77 is not compatible with Haswell (4xxx CPUs). Also, not all Z87 boards support SLi.

        • +1

Whatever mobo it is, just make sure it has two, PCI-E 2.0/3.0 16x speed slots if you're planning on SLI and check the clearance between them as these 780's are a dual-slot card and do run quite hot at full load.

You can't really go wrong with this: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z87M%20Extreme4/

Edit: It seems with PCI-E v3.0 you can easily get away with using two cards in 8x speed lanes, as there's so much more bandwidth to begin with, it's basically equivalent to a 16x speed PCI-E v2.0 lane (which no GPUs as of yet come close to saturating):
          http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Intel/Ivy_Bridge_PCI-Expr…

        • Thanks guys :) Why do you prefer ASRock instead of Gigabyte motherboards though?

        • Ooohhh, sorry, I meant Z87, my bad!

        • +3

Asrock are generally cheaper for basically the same quality. There's nothing wrong with Gigabyte though so if you prefer those then by all means. The equivalent would be the Gigabyte Z87X-D3H.

  • Fark. SO TEMPTED!!! I want to switch from AMD camp purely because I want to down-sampled my games on 1080p screen. That and the inevitable G-sync monitor upgrade.

  • Its about $600 delivered via express shipping, and if you sell the bundled game codes you could bring it down to $500-$550 delivered.

I havnt pulled the trigger yet as thinking maybe we will be able to buy them locally for under $600 in the next couple of weeks?

p.s. dont use amazon or paypal currency converstion, use a credit card with no transaction fees as they have better rates.

    • I doubt the OC models will get much below $600. Personally I went with standard shipping making it ~$560, and with the games included it's much better value IMO.

      • Didnt realise it was an OC card….lol

Just bought one with express shipping… hope I dont regret it!

  • Anyone have thoughts whether its worth the extra for the 290X gaming at 2560x1600?

1920x1080 this is a no brainier but at higher res I'm wondering whether those extra few frames are worth it. I'm currently using 5970+5870.

    • No, I don't think the 290X is worth the extra, however there should be a 290 coming out tomorrow or the day after, and that'll be ~$550-600 locally, which will also be good value. Personally I'd wait for non-reference coolers though.

      • Unfortunately they're a little more expensive than what was initially rumoured http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=r9+290x&spo…

Still, if you're buying locally it's a much better buy than the gtx 780!

        • I was referring to the R9 290 that hasn't been released yet. Not the 290x.

The local price of the GTX 780 should drop in a day or two by the ~$150 that they've dropped overseas, so once it does I'm still not sure the 290x will be worth it. It's a bit closer though given the local GTX 780 won't have the game bundle.

        • 290 has been delayed a week

  • +2

first local vendor to jump onboard with these price cuts is going to make a killing. take my money nowwwwww

  • FYI, Amazon are sold out. It's now showing $560 to buy through DataVision Computer Video, with Amazon being 3 to 6 weeks to get stock.

    • +4

Someone once told me that scumbag trader parasites buy all the stock out at Amazon, and then sell (ransom?) it on Amazon marketplace at an inflated price. So much for free markets.

  • so tempting.

  • Worth upgrading from a GTX770 OC?

    • Nah. You'd hardly notice it. But it's sold out now anyway.

  • whats the deal with warranty on something like this?

    • Amazon handles warranties as long as you ship it back to them.

  • +3

GTX780 is only about 14 to 16% better than the ASUS R9 280X which are selling for only $409 locally. At $563 this card is some 37% higher in price than the R9! This price does not deliver bang for buck!

  • Don't Amazon ship only in the US or has that changed ???

    • +2

Depends on the item, some do, some don't. Stay signed in and it'll say under the price whether they do or not.

  • Currently running an i7 950 at stock clocks, will my CPU bottleneck this card? I have an ASUS 5850 which still does a good job of what I need it to do, but I'm feeling like jumping on a GFX card bargain to treat myself for graduating at the end of the year, and wouldn't mind playing some AAA titles.

Currently my CPU is fine and my system hasn't had so much as a hiccup in the 3 years I've had it - I don't feel the need to upgrade that unless required.

    • +2

Bottleneck? Yes. To a degree that is unbearable? No. Will you notice it? Probably not.

      • Thanks for the reply! Good to hear.

        • You running 6GB or 12GB of RAM? I'd recommend at least 8GB these days.

        • Currently running 6gb. Hmm I'll factor that in when considering upgrading. As far as I've seen I've never peaked above 5gb used, but maybe I'll monitor it.

        • It's called paging. Windows will always try to keep some RAM free. The more RAM you have the more Windows can/will load into RAM. Means less paging.

EDIT: To further stress the point; I run 16GB of DDR3. When I built the system I experimented with the capacity just for fun by removing modules to create different capacities (i.e remove 2 modules for a total of 8GB). Even going from an ample 8GB of RAM to 16GB, a clean install Windows 8 will use 800MB more memory with 16GB.

    • +2

I'm actually in a very similar situation - I have an i5 750, and I'm upgrading from Crossfire 5850s. Even then, I don't think the CPU will bottleneck the 780 too much, although I do have my CPU overclocked to 3.5 GHz. If you can OC your CPU too then it'll be fine.

      • I've never done it but have a friend who OC's everything, I'll investigate if I do upgrate - Thanks!

Ps. I have a chemistry exam on NMR tomorrow so your username is quite fitting!

        • I've never done it but have a friend who OC's everything, I'll investigate if I do upgrate - Thanks!

It's pretty easy with the 1156/1366 boards. Just add a cheap HSF on (eg, CM 212 Evo / 212X) and increase the base clock. You'll be able to find plenty of tutorials.

Ps. I have a chemistry exam on NMR tomorrow so your username is quite fitting!

          Heh, good luck :)

      • i5 750s will bottleneck new cards, similar to, but to a higher degree, the i7 800 and 900 series. A mate of mine has recently upgraded from a GTX 470 to GTX 670. Apart from his core components, i5 750, P55 motherboard and half the RAM (but exact same modules) his system is pretty much the same as mine. However, my i7 3770 lets me gain 5 to 10FPS more in a variety of games/tests, even with lower clocks on my GTX 670. Furthermore, his i5 750 has been OC'd to hit 3.36GHz. This isn't even beginning to take into account the difference in physics capabilities (on CPU) and how they further affect FPS.

        • Yes, it will bottleneck, but the key words I used were 'too much'. I don't think 5-10 fps is 'too much'.

  • Damn, great deal but with my current credit card the bank would try and charge way more for conversion since for some reason the amazon currency converter is disabled for this product, anyone know a good one without a big annual fee that's great for international purchases requiring conversion such as this? Just saw the 28 degrees one, any other though?

  • Mine arrived today!
