Duracell LSD AAx4 Sydney $12.72

61

Grabed myself 2 packs of Duracell AA nimh ready use LSD 4 pack for $12.72 today at Liverpool Coles.

It was a clearence item and they still had some left. Only 1500mah tho. But 1500mah LSD is better than your regular 2600mah nimh imho. Just the other week i had bought a 4pk of eneloops from dse for $23.

    Are the McCains shepards pies any good?

  • Great price but not sure how they compaired with Eneloops.

    • All the pre charged LSD batteries are about 5-10% of each other either way. Since this is about half the price of eneloops - this would win.

      Only problem is that I think this is a local special and not available at all coles.

    What the hell is Duracell "LSD"?

      LSD = low self-discharge.

      Traditional rechargeable NiMH batteries tend to have a high rate of self-discharge, so that if you were to fully charge a set and just leave them on the shelf for say half a year, by the time you went to use them they would probably be close to flat (or at the very least not fully charged as you left them).

      Low self-discharge NiMH batteries are based on newer technology which isn't as susceptible to self-discharge, so that even if you store a fully charge set for a year and then go to use them, the should contain at least 80% charge remaining. Most LSD NiMH are actually officially rated by the manufacturer at up to 80-85% charge retention after one year.

      • What about the 2500mAh NiMH batteries? I've been using them for some time and they tend to last quite long on a single charge.

          Some brands of normal NiMH are actually quite good and do retain their charge for months at a time . I've got a set of Duracell Rechargeable 2650mAH which have retained some charge even after six months storage. However, I wouldn't rely on them for anything substantial after being stored for so long without topping them up, as I'm pretty sure they would be close to being depleted, even with some charge remaining.

          In general, LSD NiMH are best for things that you use infrequently or have low drain, or if you like to not have to worry about whether a set of batteries still have decent charge or not when they've been sitting on the shelf for a little while.

          Traditional NiMH are best suited to high drain applications (ie digital cameras, camera flashes, media players), especially if you're using them on a frequent basis (and thus have to recharge the batteries on a regular basis rather than storing them for periods of time).

  • Good price for LSD cells if it's available at all Coles. Last time I checked, all LSD NiMH are produced from the same handful of manufacturers (four or five) regardless of brand so these should perform to a similar level as Eneloops.

    @sleepy120 - are you sure the 1500mAH are actually LSD/pre-charged? Reason being is that I've only ever seen AA LSD NiMHs at a rated capacity of around 2000-2100mAH.
