    Wow amazing prices !

    • Haven't been following the graphics card prices for some time, so not sure what is considered good value. How much cheaper are these cards compared to market prices? I am still running Gigabyte Radeon HD5850 and it is running most games in high setting pretty well.

      • in the exact same boat as you - still running my asus 5850 and have been out of the game for a while so unsure on prices etc.

If anyone can chime in on this that'd be great

        • +1

          run some searches on staticice
          Should sort you out :)

Prices seem good, a gtx 680 goes for ~$280 second hand, to put it in perspective for the green team.

Edit: The 780 seems a bit over priced IMO, especially with the launch of the 780ti

  • +3

Just received the same email, didn't realise the prices were that great! Nice work OP. My 6950 is still trucking along just fine, though the new R9 290 is a pretty sweet bit of gear (just waiting on non-reference cooling solutions).

  • +1

Just a heads up, the GHz edition 7970 is due on the 13th. So next Wednesday.

  • How does the XFX 7950 compare to the Sapphire 7950? They're both the same price.

    • +2

The Sapphire is a 7950 Boost so for the same price as the XFX 7950 I'd get that, I'm an XFX fan and I like the aluminium frame…, only issue is its getting close to the 7970's price, $279 + $15 = $294… lol

      Sapphire 7950 reviews

      XFX 7950 reviews

Heres a thread @ TH discussing the two:Link

    • If you look around forums you will see a lot of complaints about the XFX DD 7950s and 7970s. Apparently they are extremely hot cards. I don't know if that has changed or not but I would not touch it due to how often I see it criticised. The sapphire is very well regarded, not the absolute quietest or coolest but very good..

  • +1

OP, please remove XFX 79070 Ghz Ed from title as it's not available yet. Don't want anyone to thinking they can pull the trigger on that one just yet. Great post otherwise.

  • Quick question, how long would you say you can get reasonable performance out of the 7950? (as in, how long would you expect roughly before needing to upgrade again)

Lets define reasonable performance as a decent framerate (40+) at high settings for intensive games like BF3/4, COD, Crysis etc. I'm looking at building a budget gaming rig (sub $700 without the case and SSD/HDD) and I'm tossing up between the Sapphire 7950 and the XFX 7970. Thanks.

    • Go for the 7970. It'll last just a bit longer as the next gen Radeon R9 290x and 290(non x) have been released.

      • Anyone know if this XFX 7970 is voltage locked or locked in anyway ? The only other issue as per the reviews is that many XFX appear faulty, especially the 7970s…. :S

    • +3

I bought a Gigabyte 7950 (1 Ghz stock) back in January and I've been really impressed with its performance. The most recent example I can give is when I fired up Battlefield 4. In both singleplayer and multiplayer I'm getting a solid 55-60 fps with all settings on ultra! (AA off, using FXAA instead) For a card that seemed to struggle a bit with Far Cry 3 and Tomb Raider (with DX11 tessellation on), I didn't expect this performance from one of the latest, best-looking next gen games.

Just thought I'd let you know, the options at the bottom of the page you linked show your name and email address, might want to link somewhere else because people can change your email subscription settings!

    • Lol, I knew I missed something. Thanks man.

      • +1

No worries, thanks for your first post!

  • Argh. I bought a 7850 from them less than a month ago. I thought that was it old stock discounting, obviously some more is still floating around.

    Great service from PCCG though.

  • Gday fellas - I need an upgrade from my nvidia 560 - which graphic card should I go for in this sale? thanks waiting for your reply

Since the new AMD 280X is faster and cheaper than any of these 7970s, I do not see the point buying any.

    • +5

      cheaper

Yeah… I'm going to need a citation on that one.

    • +1

      The 280X is a 7970 GE, and 280X's start at $350.
      http://tpucdn.com/reviews/MSI/R9_280X_Gaming/images/perfrel.…

The 280X uses slightly less power and is a slightly better binned 7970 GE; so you may be able to OC it by a little bit more (although not a lot since AMD has pushed the Tahiti XT2 to it's limits already).

  • +1

I'd say since you have to pay $18 for regular Auspost, you're still better off buying the 280x from IT Estate for $359 with free 1~2 day shipping.

    • How does the service at IT Estate compare? Supposedly the cooling on the XFX 280X is an improvement over the 7970, and it would most likely have a (at least slightly) higher resale value in a year or two's time - so the 280X might be worth it.

Edit: NSW only? Well screw you too, IT Estate.

    • By all means post a deal on it. $359 is the best price in Australia for a delivered 280X; but nobody's getting "ripped off" buying a 7970 GE at this point in time for the same price or lower since it will perform identical to the 280X.

  • +3

Nice deal, though I am personally may not buy a 7970 and go for the equivalent 280x instead. I always buy computer parts with my 28degrees credit card via the shopper protection insurance.

It is likely in 6 months time, the 280x would have dropped in price further than what the 7970 would be now, which I can recover via the insurance. But if I buy the 7970 now with the same credit card, I doubt the model would exist for sale in 6 months time, and thus, prevent me from claiming the insurance.

  • +1

    Must resist upgrading… I only play dota2… dont… need…

    • +1

Not worth the upgrade, but look at me, I play BF4 on a 6850 @ 1080p on Med-High and get an average FPS of 50-60…, I don't need this, but its time ! :P

      • I'm still running on my 6850 as well, Hi5 :)

  • Still using my 6990..and my 965BE is bottlenecking it like a baws! :)
Good deals here. I would grab a 7970 and relax for another 2 years if I had a 5 series.

If only they had a clearance on Intel CPUs. :)

  • -1

XFX is junk. Google it. No wonder its reduced. You want AMD GPU's buy Sapphire or Gigabyte. XFX and MSI are sub standard shoddy junk. Always had problems with parts from casegear too. Eh.

    • +5

2 XFX AMD Cards without an issue here, $5k+ in multiple orders from PCCG without an issue also.

You must have very bad luck.

  • I have a Saphire 6950 running fine still on 1080p for most games. Except most recently Metro LL and Splinter Cell started chugging abit, so had to drop the shadows, etc

(price wise) Is it worth getting a 7970, or another 6950?

    • Investigate turning your 6950 into a 6970 via a bios flash (sapphire cards of that model usually don't have the shaders laser cut) and if you're lucky you can even O/C beyond 6970 clocks, I did this with my Sapphire 2gb 6950 and its a beast :)

      • Hi Azza, doesnt that mean the Card will be very noisy?

I have ATI Desktop Software and used the slider all the way to max, it runs good but the fan kicking in is too noisy for me

        • no, not noisy - look at using sapphire trixx for o/c and building a fan profile, might take a bit of tweaking

  • +3

As an owner of the xfx 7970ghz I can confirm that it does run hot and as such is quite loud.your better off buying a different brand with a superior cooler.

  • +1

7970 dd is $10 cheaper @ PLE computers, shipping is same to sydney.

  • -5

I wonder how much EA gets for forcing people to upgrade graphics cards.

    • +1

Ah yes. So much forcing

    • +1

Would you prefer they used the same engine for 6 years straight? EA isn't forcing you to do anything, you're either willing to pay for the performance increases for generational advancements or you're not, it's as simple as that.

    • +3

I wonder how many donations sony and microsoft receive for forcing pc gamers to play console ports, thus saving them money on hardware upgrades.

  • +1

Don't forget to tag with 'video card' OP, missed this one :P

  • Not sure wy this post is getting more interests than other 7970 posts or relatively more in terms of the price.
There was the MSY sale for $299

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/121265
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/122188

… besides them being expired but was only a couple weeks ago.

    • +2

Probably because a few people who placed orders never actually got a card held for them? That's what happened to me anyway, and had no luck getting the store to do the back-order thing that the rep promised on OZB.

End of the day, while MSY may be local to me I'd probably still prefer to pay a bit extra and get it from PCCG who haven't ever disappointed me on an order in the 4-5 years I've been using them. But other's mileage may vary and I know some MSY stores are pretty good!

      • +2

i placed an order on back order and waited a week as they said it will be restocked this tuesday, but they didnt contact me so i then contacted them on the thursday and then they told me no stock. So they probably sold my card to some1 else =/

    • Well firstly, the MSY deal was almost over before it began (like almost all MSY sales) and the second deal you linked to was posted today.

My main motivation for putting up another 7970 deal, was that a ton of people missed out on MSY's deal on the 7970 either due to MSY not honouring the declared start date (31/10/13) and selling cards before they were supposed to go on sale, thus reducing the available stock for people who tried to get them on the following Friday and weekend as well as MSY not actually reserving stock for email/phone-in pre-orders that customers had placed.

None of that is of course surprising coming from MSY and like others have said, PCCG you can depend on to a far greater degree to actually have stock on hand when they say they do.

And lastly, the fanboy within us all may prefer one vendor over another (MSI, XFX, Sapphire, etc.) and thus some people may be willing to pay a slight premium for a card they feel will be more reliable.

      Either way, a sub-$330 price for a 7970 is a good deal.

Keep in the mind though, PCCG's price on the 7970 Ghz Edition is the lowest price for a bonafida Ghz Edition we've seen so far; that may not mean much to some, given that you can overclock 7970's to be up to par with the GE but all the 7970's seen on sale so far have been original Tahiti XT chips, not the Tahiti XT2 (Ghz Editions).

  • xfx 7970 ghz edition in stock now??

    • That's what I'm seeing.

Looks like they made a mistake with the original ETA; I was wondering why all the other cards would be in stock today but the 7970 GE would take a whole 5 days to be ready for the same clearance sale.

      • Probably gonna buy all this, think its good?

        • +1

You look all set to do some serious gaming.

The case isn't to my liking but that's subjective and the RAM could be replaced with a cheaper G.Skill kit for $99; but maybe you want those mean looking heat spreaders.

The H87 chipset does support SLI/CF (two 8x speed PCI-E lanes in SLI/CF mode) in case you want to leave room for that in the future, but doesn't support much overclocking (same goes for a non-K i5).

          All in all, solid build.

        • yeah not thinking about overclocking. Might wanna go CF later on so I will take that into account. Thanks :)
Edit: Just realised you said it "does" support CF haha

    FYI..

This is more appealing than the XFX 7970 ghz edition..

    Description: Graphic Card AMD R9 280X 3GB XFX Black Edition [R9-280X-TDBD] (1080/6000MHz)

$349 delivered (Sydney) if using CC there is 6.98 surcharge

I've bought a few items from them and they are great so far :)

  • PCCG selling factory seconds again. Be careful what you pay for, special or no special. PCCG is one of the worse offenders selling factory seconds to unknowing children.

    • Not just PCCG, JBs are known for selling factory seconds too.

    • Not saying that's unbelievable but it would be nice to have a little more than your word to go on when you're making a rather a bold claim.
