  • On the premise that you're able to buy more than one, I'm buying four.

You investing in a dual-purpose heating and gaming PC?

      • +2

        minecraft

  • +1

Quick help me, Incredible price…, dart me now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • +2

Damn.. I definitely would have grabbed one of these bad boys. Finally got around to doing my tax return and figured the extra cash could allow a little upgrade.. Instead I got slugged with a $2100 bill owing to the ATO, dang.

    Maybe next year :(

  • I swear marketing and sales executives are patrolling OzBargain these days.

    • +4

      MSY has executives?

  • +5

Would look at other 7970 options, bought this one and the fan rattled so bad on highload even after changing the fan settings I've returned two of them.

  • +1

Lol bought a 7950 at pcg instead lol

    • +2

      The one from yesterday?

sigh this is what happens when you're on Ozbargain.
God damn impulse buys. Saw that 7950 from last nights deal and bought it instantly. Literally.

      And now this.

      My wallet hates me.

      • Video cards seem to sell for crazy high amounts on ebay. At this price, maybe you could even make a profit on that 7950…

        • +4

followed by eBay & Paypal taking all of the profit in their fees!

        • Yeah literally an hour after .. Msy puts this up

  • Unfortunately only single DVI output.

  • Woo, pre-ordered!

  • +1

Not a fan of MSI video cards - have had a couple die on me and one that was DOA.
Much prefer the Gigabyte or Asus offerings on the 7970 for build quality.

    • +1

Surprisingly, I agree with you =[. I use to only purchase MSI cards, however got 2 cards that died on me without overclocking.

      • +1

yeah you just reminded me that my previous MSI card also died on me within a week of purchase. So thats 2/2 for me.

  • Is this similar in performance to ghz edition?

    • You will need to overclock it. Very easy.

      • Without overclocking though, does this card's lower memory clock speed make it any slower than the ghz? Or is it not much of a bottleneck?

        • +2

The memory clock won't make very much difference to the overall speed, unless you're using multiple monitors, even then the difference will be quite small. Single monitor there will be practically no difference between this and a ghz edition.

    • Isn't "Ghz edition" just mean the core clock is 1Ghz+? the page says:

      Core Clock Speed(MHz) 1000MHz Core (Boost Clock:1050MHz)

      • +1

Yes, it should perform closely to a GHz edition.

  • If I grab this will I be eligible for the Never Settle Forever promo and get to pick 3 free games?

    • I still had my promo card from the Asus 7850 from MSY. Went to redeem it and the games changed… Picked up Deus Ex Human Revolution instead of Bioshock so I was happy, I got to pick 3 games. However you don't have to redeem the cards immediately now there was a paragraph that says that you can redeem when you see a game that you really want and then you redeem then.

      • However you don't have to redeem the cards immediately

Yeah - I am holding off…rumour is that BF4 will be added shortly :)

        • They already added BF4 to the 290X. I don't think it's coming any time soon to any other card though, it's too big of a title.

    • +3

      Yes. It is eligible.

      • Do MSY give you a card with the code, or is the code in the box?

      • +1

There is no code in the box and I did not receive a voucher. Do I have to go back to MSY to receive my voucher?

        • +1

Hi, just send us a snapshot of your invoice through our Facebook page and we can give you the Gold Reward code for AMD Never Settle Forever.

          Thank you

    • +1

Just make sure you do get the code for the games off them, I never got one when I bought my Sapphire 7850 off them a couple of months ago.

  • The page isn't loading for me :(
    I just want 1 card!

    EDIT: It's loading

  • 2 of these puppies in CF is much better spend than the deals on the Nvidia 780s going around.

  • I bought one of these last week from PC Case Gear for $399 fml.

    • How are you finding it? Any supposed noise issues to report?

    • That's harsh, I was annoyed because I bought a Powercolor for $342 with shipping a few weeks ago…

I didn't think they would get any cheaper, especially the bigger brands.

      Oh well, lesson learned.

  • I currently use an MSI 570 that was factory overclocked which I had to underclock because Win7 doesn't like OC'ed cards (in my experience). I also had to replace the stock cooler which was a reference one. Looking at reviews this card consumes a lot of power which is understandable for a high end GPU. Sorely tempted to nab one but I haven't been on the red team for a while and I'm unsure whether the upgrade is worthwhile…

    • that's a silly thing to say, only PSU' and low quality grade GDDR memory don't like OC.

      • It could have been the card. A google search for "game crash green squares" shows it almost exclusively being an Nvidia problem. However I seem to recall my 4870 (also factory OC) having a similar problem. In any case my solution was to underclock to stock levels. Maybe my Windows installation is bad. Not saying this is true for everyone, just my experience. Back on topic, I am also getting "out of stock in NSW". I would call but MSY have terrible phone service.

  • Is it just me or are they sold out in NSW? How else do you pre-order?

    • Call up your nearest branch.

    • +2

      Hi,

More stock will be available tomorrow for all NSW branches.

In the mean time, if your local MSY store has sold out these GPUs, please send them an email within the promotion period and we can honor all the back-order with special price. Thank you

      • Hi there,

Does this apply for the ACT branch?

Apparently all sold out this morning :(

        • +1

Yes, it does. Just send ACT branch an email for your order and we will fulfill all back-order with special price.

          Thank you

        • I placed an order at the ACT branch on the 31st as well, didn't hear anything back until I emailed them and I've been told it is out of stock. There was no mention of the back-order with special price…how can I do this?

        • The Balcatta store in WA won't let me backorder, and the Cannington store haven't replied to my email yet. I contacted both of them on Saturday, within the promotion period.

        • My email also said that they were out of stock, with no mention of back-order either. I just replied and asked if I could, referencing this post, and they said they will.

How do they compare with the MSI version?

    • -1

I've always found powercolor more reliable than MSI, but others have said the opposite.

    • my powercolor 6950 overheats/artifacts sometimes at stock speeds, never buying from them again.

    • Did you get the 3 "Never Settle" promo games?

    • Just got mine as well. Last one from Slacks Creek I think.

  • are you putting it in straight away?

    • +1

That's what she said… Sorry I couldn't resist. On a more serious note please do tell us how it goes.

  • Any ideas on how to order online guys, it tells me they ahve stock in Brendale, but then wont let me add to cart

  • Can anyone with one comment on the fan noise? Bit worried based on a few newegg reviews… Looking to keep my case relatively quiet, especially with normal use/not under load.

    • According to this review: http://www.overclockers.com/msi-hd-7970-tfiii-oc-boost-editi…

Fan noise starts to become audible when ramping up the fan speed (the auto preset hit 45% and was still pretty silent). Unless you plan to OC you should be okay. The mid-60s degrees temps are quite good (but a bit of a sore point for me because I have aftermarket coolers and rarely go above the 50s). If someone has one and can comment that would be nice.

      • May I ask, which aftermarket cooler do you have for your 7970?

        • Sorry should have mentioned, I have a GTX 570 (which used to hit 70-90 at load with stock cooler) which gets hotter than this card. The information is pulled from the review.

    • +1

Can't hear it above my case fans. All my case fans are Noctua's. I did however hear a tiny squeel when loading Total Rome 2 menu page. But in the game nil noise. Weird it whines during menu.
So on normal use not under load I cant hear anything.

  • I just bought the MSI 7970 this morning and my invoice number is q1303550.
Is there any way that i an get the Never Settle game bundle?
And can u please email me the invoice, as i just lost my invoice ( i have no idea what happened! Was so excited with the VGA)

    • +1

I called them up today after buying one yesterday (also forgot to ask at the counter about the games); I just quoted them my invoice number and he emailed me the code.

      • i got the code already, but i dont know what i should do with it?

You redeem it here- "Redeem your code now for the games you see, or hold on to your AMD Radeon™ Reward coupon for upcoming games."

          Expires 31/12/13.

        • i cant???

It transferred me to this page

          and nothing happens

        • You have to either log in or create an account with them, then redeem your code.

  • Just checked Auburn MSY, whole NSW is out of stock and I can't do back order.

    • Strangely if you choose online it will say in stock. However the only way to pay is by CC and there is a 2% surcharge. Delivery came to about $10 for me and the surcharge $5 so about $315 all up. Still not that bad considering it'll save you the drive. However they might not have any stock so worst comes to worst I'll just get a refund. Hopefully.

Played around with mine last night and here's what I can report:

    • Fan noise is nothing out of the ordinary. Below 55% fan speed (~2300 RPM) it's basically over-shadowed by your PSU, CPU cooler fan (if you have one) or case fans (most enthusiasts on this site I'm assuming have at least 3 x 120mm case fans). I've heard properly noisy cards before (GTX 480) and this is not one of them.

    • At about 60% fan speed (~2660 RPM) it's mildly audible if you're sitting right next to your case; over 70% it is quite loud but fortunately this thing runs as cool as a cucumber (idle temps for me are about 30-33C and the highest load temp I've hit is 73C, with 68C being the norm for most games), so there's no pressing need to go above 50% to keep it cool. I've even mildly OC'ed the memory and core (1500Mhz and 1100Mhz respectively) and even then the card didn't break a sweat above 73C.

    • Coil whine. Well… there is and there isn't. What I've noticed is that whenever the card is rendering something with no frame limit, like a menu or an overlay and it starts to render it at 200FPS or higher; you do hear coil whine and it gets noisier the higher the FPS is. In practice though, if you're playing your games with high settings and all the eye candy turned on, you're not going to be generating a high enough FPS to hear coil whine and in any cases where you do, it seems turning on V-Sync to keep things at 60FPS sorts everything out. So far it doesn't seem like a deal-breaker to me.

    • Performance. Only had time to test a few games but here's what I'm getting:

Total War Rome 2 @ 1920x1080, Very High/High settings, 4x AF/AA, Unit Size: Large, SSAO, Unlimited Video Memory.

(In the TWR2 in-game benchmark I get an average FPS of 60.7, a maximum of 111 and a minimum of 42)

Huge battles like Carthage can slow down to 25-35FPS but that says more about TWR2's terrible optimisation than the card's lack of grunt; as even a GTX 690 or 7990 struggle to make large battles playable.

Arma III @ 1920x1080, High settings, 2.5K draw distance, 2x FSAA + High FXAA, High AF.

On the Combined Arms showcase battle I get a solid 45-60FPS, even during intense shoot-outs with dozens of soldiers.

Far Cry 3 @ 19280x1080, Very High settings, HBAO, 2xAA.

    I get a solid 60FPS; didn't see the counter go below 50.

Keep in mind I am running an old first-gen i7 960 with 6GB of RAM and a PCI-E 2.0 mobo (though PCI-E 2.0 shouldn't really make any difference @ 1920x1080 according to benchmarks); so if you're on a Haswell CPU with a PCI-E 3.0 mobo and more RAM, you'll probably get better results.

    • Thanks for that :)

  • None left that I can see

    • I called (what must have been the national office) and got two on backorder. They say they should have them in stock this week. Hopefully I'll get a call back when they arrive.

  • +1

According to some users on Whirlpool who were late to jump on this deal, if you can get in touch with a store you can place a 7970 on order and they will honour the $299 pricing from this weekend. The order must be placed this weekend however.

  • The Balcatta store (WA) claim "no backorder as we run out all the stock".

The Cannington store (WA) haven't replied to my email (sent Saturday 2/11/13).

Looks like I'll have to find a deal elsewhere. It's annoying that they advertised this as a weekend deal considering it was sold out before the weekend!

    • When it comes to MSY; make all claims and orders over the phone or in person and always get an order number off them. If you had ordered one on Saturday, they should have honoured the deal and placed one on backorder for you (a number of folks on Whirlpool did that and they got their cards). A stock enquiry doesn't really count as a placing an order I'd guess.

It's annoying that they advertised this as a weekend deal considering it was sold out before the weekend!

Typical MSY. They also didn't honour their word when it came to starting the deal on Friday. Seems me and a few other people (or probably a lot) picked theirs up on Thursday just after calling up and placing an order.

  • If anyone is after one of these at $299 let me know. I bought 3 that I no longer require.

  • Does anyone known whether there is an optimal way to subscribe/receive alerts if/when new games are added to the bundle? A quick Internet searched failed to answer my query and I have held off redeeming for now because I found the current titles not very compelling since some of the previously listed ones are no longer available.

BTW, I got lucky at the time and bought the last one in stock at Kingsford and they had run out of codes but took my address and emailed one to me afterwards.
