    (i4?)

5th generation of the iProcessors came out with i4

      • +4

        Obviously meant to be i5.

      • +1

        5th gen? i4?
        What are you smoking, cpho?

7790? "Best of gaming" for what $950 delivered?

Should get at least a 7950 if not 7970 for that.

    • would you recommend a set up which is able to play BF4 in high setting?

      • 7870 can do High, but without AA I think…

    • +3

Agreed. CPU is way too high for gaming compared to a 7790. The intel core 2 quad series has only just (this year for a 2008 CPU) not been able to max out games. and a 4570 should be downgraded for a better GPU.

There's always something about these CPL deals that put me off from recommending it to a friend.

IMO, the better deals were the ones that didn't come with a graphics card, but it was always the case or PSU that ruined it for me.

  • +3

For this sort of build I'd strongly recommend a higher quality PSU. Just an extra ~$30 and popping in the Antec HCG-520 or Corsair CX 600W would go a long way to ensuring the longevity of the system here. This is not about wattage, but about the quality of the components used.

PSU is less important on a lower power sucking system. Most of the CPL deals have systems that wouldn't draw over 100W under full load and would draw ~50W under normal operation. This one would draw nearly 200W under full load and because you'd buy it to play games, it would frequently be up near that. Quality of components is important if you want the system to last.

Have to disagree. Nothing wrong with the Corsair PSU

But strangely CPL have gone back to bundling an OS which spikes the cost unnecessarily

There haven't been high quality reviews of it, which makes it an unknown. People have looked at the capacitors inside them and noted they're from lower quality manufacturers.

I personally take a well reviewed PSU that's known to be quality with 80 Plus certification over a unreviewed PSU of unknown quality with known mediocre quality components any day of the week. Especially at a price difference of $~30 (I looked it up, about $25 extra for the HCG-520).

Mate check the reviews on the Corsair VS500 before commenting, Corsair overall makes great PSU but this particular one is definetly NOT. I am also speaking from experience.

  • A decent built IMO, except for the PSU, should throw at least a 650W (Corsair HX650 maybe?)

    • HCG-520 or 620 are more value for money. HX650 are around $150.

I just want something that i can use to surf OB & make online orders for stuff i don't really need.

Get something faster than this. You don't want to miss out on a PinchMe sample or $10 Paypal coupon because of a slow computer.

  • Dat GFX card.

If gaming is your priority, you're better off ditching the ssd and pumping as much money as possible into the graphics card. Sure instant boot times are nice, but you'll be instant-booting for a glorious 10fps. Also, windows included is a bit…

    • I disagree. The SSD provides an overall system boost, that no mechanical HDD can.

      • +3

Read: if gaming is your priority. How important are these overall system boosts to gaming? Compared to say, 20 more fps on average.

The three important things to remember when building a gaming PC:
        GPU, GPU, GPU.

    • +2

I agree. This is a light gaming computer. A better PSU like the HCG-520 and a better graphics card like the HD7950 would up the price by ~$175 but it'd make a massive difference to the detail levels at good frame rates you could run.

The SSD would drop the price $100 and you'd not really lose out on gaming performance (but you would lose out on boot time and program loading times, generally desktop snappiness). So it's a fair trade on a gaming-specific system.

While we were at it, I'd up the storage to a 2TB. It's only $30 more.

Gigabyte HD7790OC 2GB? noway. With the recent graphics cards shower of deals, a Gigabyte HD7790OC 2GB in a $930 + Delivery is not the "best of gaming for under 1K"

CPL deals are awesome and in terms of price vs self build this is definitively a great deal, but seriously anyone who is even remotely interested in "Gaming" and is willing to put 930+Del into a system, this is not the "best" build.

a 3rd gen i5 with a GTX770 2GB, 8GB Ram, good Mobo, good case and PSU, 1TB harddrive can be had for under 1K, that machine would blow this one out of the water in gaming.

You don't need a SSD to "GAME" and 4th gen cores have more power efficiency improvements than actual performance over 3rd gen so for desktop PC's there isn't much value in a 4th gen. Also for some reason there are these weird SSD-destroys-everything-in-sight-and gives-you-800+more-frames-instantly-in-a-game people I don't understand.

a i5 4th gen with SSD and 7790 vs i5 3rd gen with HDD and GTX770… who do you think will destroy what.
