High end Android phones go slow after a while, this entry level is going to crawl ;)

    • +7

Don't forget not all Android phones are Samsung bloatware phones… don't generalise ;)

    • +3

And then magically fast again after each firmware upgrade. I'll think most Android aren't afraid of phones going slower, but being abandoned by the manufacturer from getting future updates.

    • +2

      trim, baby, trim.

      • +3

This. It's launching with 4.3 so it has TRIM, and it's supposedly getting the more hardware efficient 4.4 in January some time. Theoretically, it shouldn't slow down for a while.

Also, Moto's skin is pretty light and efficient as it is - compared to other flagships, the Moto X had middling specs yet the same, if not better, general performance.

I feel like this Moto G is the new Nexus 4……

  • What is the diff between Moto G and Moto X?

    • +4

      1 character.

    • G is cheaper version, smaller screen,less ram,lower CPU

  • How does this stack up to Nexus 5?

    • +5

      Display: 720p 4.5" TFT vs 1080p 4" IPS
      RAM: 1GB vs 2GB
Storage: 8GB minimum vs 16GB minimum (+50GB Google Drive storage for the Moto G, if you're interested)
CPU: Snapdragon 400 vs Snapdragon 800
      Battery: 2070mAH vs 2300mAh
      Network: HSPA+ vs LTE

Obviously the Nexus 5 is better, and is guaranteed updates for at least the next 18 months. Whether the difference is worth $200 is up to you.

  • Great value phone!
People should note that this is a MID-RANGE phone with a budget price, definitely not a high-end phone such as the Nexus 5. If you're expecting the latest and greatest for $200, you will be disappointed.

  • the Motorola Moto G is so hot, was looking for a cheap second Android phone, thanks OP!! Man it's 179 in US. Wow Motorola are actually worth getting now!

    • America pays tax on top of that $179 number.

      • Yea I heard about that, is the tax a lot? Also I heard there's like two states in which you don't have to pay tax LOL. 214 is still awesome!

        • I think it's about 10%, when I bought $5 worth of Chicken Nuggets in LA it costed about $5.67.

        • Ranges from 0 to 10% depending on the city.

  • How can this phone compare with Nexus 4?

  • Moto G is a decent mid range smartphone if you can do without LTE, live with a 5 Mpixel camera, happy to have a non-removable battery. Screen is LCD not AMOLED as in Moto X. A useful feature if you need it is that it supports dual SIM operation.

This item has not yet been released.
    maybe next year.

    • it's already on sale at other UK retailers

  • Looks like similar enough in specs to my Galaxy Nexus which is still a decent phone in its own right.

  • tempting. when would it be released in Australia? if it's gonna be released in Australia.

  • +1

No SD card slot, so you should consider spending the extra us$20 for the 16GB version.

  • The DSE Vodafone deal for the Huwei was a better deal at $99 I reckon.

    • +1

I'd much rather put my money with Google-backed Motorola. The specs are decent as a mid range, but that price is great considering what you get.

  • Nice been looking for a phone around these specs and price
