  • If shopping express see this…
any chance you can do free shipping on the DIR-505? $9.25 postage seems a bit steep…. otherwise a good price!

Can't do free shipping, please consider buy some more products :).

      • Got any DDR that would suit the HP Microserver N40L?

I bought some a while ago but it didn't work, and I forgot to exchange it.

  • hey rep if your around how about some AC routers like the EA6500,

the netgear one looks pretty good…

No worries - added as another Frenzy Choice:

      Limit to 20 units
      EA6500 - $169

        updated post , thanks SE

        • thanks OP

      • Nice, and a good price too.

great now I have to decide today, and I only started my research yesterday…

        rt-ac68u VS EA6500 VS R6300 VS DSL-2890AL

I believe the Netgear has a DDRT which is pretty cool…
        http://www.myopenrouter.com/article/42769/How-To-Install-DD-…

        opinions?

        • +1

I ordered a R6300 recently, compared it on paper to a couple others, all much of a muchness but the free 802.11ac adapter clenched it for the netgear.

        • yeah it does look pretty good, and the DDRT firmware is a +,
          the Asus gets good reviews
My workmate has an ea6500 and swears by it saying that's the one I should get…

I'm favouring the reviews though and leaning towards the ASUS…

ohh then there is the r7000 - which has the later chips… might get that one…if I can find it.

(when its been released in AU)

So my recommendation is avoid the RT-AC68U.
I recently went with the RT-AC66U (prior model to the RT-AC68U)
Major problems with it, particularly with wireless incompatibility and stability issues (hard resets required every second day)
Major interference issues, physically the router would impact the operation of alarm systems. Found out later that Asus appear to be in breach of FCC regs and are being sued by netgear (Their newer devices runs outside of legal power limits apparently which is how they managed to get such high speeds)
I found Asus networking support about the worst of any networking company I've dealt with. Ended up getting a refund after a couple months of stuffing around with Asus.

Hmm.. DD-WRT is awesome though requires some networking skill to setup properly.. if you put this on the R6300 you could potentially get around netgears limitations around VPN. (Netgear don't support multiple vpn tunnels for consumer grade gear)

        • get the asus i got it and have no issues :)

Hi Rep, can you do Dlink DSL-2890AL, Click frenzy? Thanks

    • Sorry mate,
wisc requested an AC router earlier than you, and we can't offer too many additional products at Frenzy Price.
Will see if we can have future promotion for this model though.

        • I too would like to see a good deal on this modem/router

        • …D-Link!?
          Have they improved their products?
Couple of others also had the same problem with Dlink products - they don't have great heat dissipation, my old one used to overheat after 4 hours :|

What's the warranty like on the 3TB hdd?

    In the description here

    http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/western-digital-wd-cav…

    it says:

    'Quick Overview
    WD30EZRX-OW WD 3TB extracted from WDBAAU0030HBK-AESN… '

this appears to be an External USB2.0 drive, which is available elsewhere from $113.52

    http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=WDBAAU0030HBK-A…

I recently pulled a 2TB Seagate drive out of its USB enclosure and it now has 8 uncorrectable sectors after 7 days powered on.

I am concerned that both my 2TB drive and this 3TB will have no warranty.

Edit, just noticed that the 3TB external drive is the one mentioned in this deal at SE http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/123247 for $99 which has now sold out; SE now sell this external drive for $125.

  • Hi rep, any deals on a portable USB 3.0 2TB HDD?

So, I'm pretty sour about these guys over an exchange I had on Monday.

After seeing the frenzy sale on ozbargain, I put through an order on various items to try and make my RasPi function as a NAS and media server. After check out I saw an add for the buffalo linkstation NAS on sale and decided I would try that instead. So I called up to see if I could get my order cancelled. I was told that its really difficult and he wasn't sure if he could do it, kept insisting that if it was to change my order he would just give me free shipping on the next order. When I finally told the rep that I wanted to cancel because I wanted to purchase the NAS which would be twice the price as my original order, he immediately processed the status of the original order to cancelled…

I felt pretty weird about it at the time, but was just happy to get the NAS at such a cheap price. Since then, the more I think about it, the more I realise how much of a snake act that was. Really not impressed. The worst part, is that the amount is still on hold in my credit card, as well as the cost of the NAS, which has already been delivered to me.

Hopefully my credit comes back and this is all done and dusted, but seriously burning after that exchange on the phone.

Don't see why its the shops problem when you changed your mind. You are lucky they helped in the first place.

      Unfair criticism of the shop

  • Hey Rep, anything you can do about the Samsung 840 EVO 1T?

    • +1

today's lead actor is Crucial 960GB SSD @ $599 - gonna let him have the glory :).
This SSD have the advantage of data encryption and MLC Nand so it is a worthy consideration especially for high capacity SSDs.

      Regards
      SE

      • Well judging from the RRP, its usually only a few $$$ more for extra 64Gb (?). i'll just wait for the Evo.

        Cheers

        • hehe… might not be as optimistic as you have hoped for :P. Samsung Evo 1TB reaching similar price/GB to Crucial's current deal will be a very huge challenge - Crucial 960GB is a very sharp deal for Australia - we beat everyone by at least $70.
