Good deals but Free delivery needed on hdd :(

Darn, the 3TB external is only USB 2.0

      • Is it SATA2 or SATA3 though?

        • it would have a WD Caviar Green either

          • WD30EZRX - SATA3 (SATA 6.0Gb/s 64Mb cache)
          • WD30EZRS - SATA2 (SATA 3.0Gb/s 64Mb cache)
  • Does the wd element 3tb usb have native sata inside

    • I'd be keen to find out as well.

    • +4

I have bought the exact same model:WDBAAU0030HBK-AESN

and yes, it's got a native Sata that you can ripp open the enclose and put into a PC. One thing to note, I had data on mine before I decided I wanted to put it inside my PC, however Windows failed to read any of the data, it did see the drive and offer to format it, after which it works fine, I've searched online and it's a case by case bases of windows, however you should get rid of any important data you have just incase. Otherwise it works fine, I've ripped an old 1TB of the same model and am using that inside my PC as well. Never had any problems!

Had a similar problem awhile back with a 1TB ext. usb Hitachi when removed & installed in PC. Fix: use partition software & changed the partition to 'active' then assigned a drive letter. Data was untouched & accessible.

        • +1

grab_ur_freebies, thanks a ton buddy!! I am in a similar situation with a hard drive where windows is failing to see one partition and I just haven't had the time to research up on it, was going to move all data off drive and format the whole thing, but I might not have to now, thanks a lot!! I'll give some partition software a try, hopefully it give me back my missing GB's!

          Thanks!!!!!!

I though it was a very good price on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, then I noticed it was the older one with the 1280x800 screen. Still a good price but not worth getting IMO.

Bugger… oh well I will give my $$ to a US Black Friday deal then

        • It's your money, you do whatever you want with it.

  • What are people's thoughts on the Toshiba L50 laptop?
PSKL6A-013004 for $699 doesn't seem too bad for i7 and a 740M card? (and a free slot for more ram later)

    • +2

Good Price on a good laptop. They are an obsolete model now, very hard to find, the last ones sold out at dick smith last week. New model is L50-A01Q.
Last deal received 18 votes http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/113082

Pros: Cheap, Powerful i7 CPU, empty slot for RAM Upgrade. Powerful graphics card for gaming, good heat dissipation, very well built and reliable brand.

Cons: Last Gen Ivy bridge CPU, combine this with 4 cell battery means battery life will not be great. Not Touch Screen. Not Full HD screen. 5400rpm HDD, no SSD. No backlit display.

Summary: If you don't care much about battery life, touch screen, Full HD Screen resolution and SSD hard drive speeds then buy this now. It is a very good price for what you get, not much competition at this price range. And they are becoming very rare, you probably wont see this laptop ever again at this price.

      Hope that helps :)

      • +1

        No backlit display.

        Do you mean keyboard?

        • woops, yes i always mix those up, sorry :$

      • Yep, helps a lot, thanks.
Never had an SSD, so won't miss one, as a minute to boot up is fine for us.
Way better than my current brick chugging along anyway.
        Cheers.

        • +1

It's not really about boot times, people just brag about SSD boot times to illustrate how fast SSDs are.

But the reason you get them is that those fast SSD reads/writes speed up all sorts of stuff with your computer. All sorts of loading times pretty much disappear.

It doesn't matter much for games (unless you really hate loading screens). But for almost everything else, an i3 with an SSD is much better than an i7 without.

So don't rule out replacing the HDD on this laptop with an SSD later. It's be slightly lighter and have slightly longer battery life too.

        • Ta, good points. Ordered the laptop yesterday, so will have a play. May put in a SSD later, but can't justify it just yet. Pity only one HDD bay.
Still, good price for an i7 that can play some mid range games.

        • +2

I have a variation of this laptop (the one with AMD 7670, i7 3610QM & 12gb ram) and I purchased it to replace a first gen i3 lappy. The first boot up I was VERY disappointed, the (750GB 5400RPM) HDD was abysmally slow and the factory installed gumpf was like an anchor. Shortly after I replaced HDD with 120GB SSD and swapped the optical drive with a drive bay adapter to give myself 2 drives (very easy process). It was a MAJOR improvement. As above, not only does it boot fast, it loads/runs applications fast too.

These systems that pair high end CPUs with PoS mechanical hard drives are in my opinion just stupid. It's like taking a Pagani Zonda and driving around with the handbrake on and wondering why it's not very fast.

  • Good Deal thanks OP

    has postage cost gone up?
Also what is the cutoff for shipping same day?

    • Yes, our postage has gone up slightly for Australia Post. Cut-off time today is 1:15pm AEDT, but please make purchase earlier just in case.

AOC e2460Swg 23.6" any good? How about a free postage code? :P

    • haha…can't do it man. You are paying for a 23.6" Full HD LED Monitor with 2ms response time with a "scratch resistant" (removable glass front panel) at $129 :P.

But on WD site the height is 36.14mm.

Got to be worth free shipping for that mistake :)

LMAO Sorry for hassling you rep.

        • The Hitachi 500gb listing says less than 1cent per gig, free ship code for this spot? :-)

        • +1

Add the SD card to your cart first, then when checking out calculate shipping. That worked for me.

    Samsung Series 5 NP530U4E Intel Core i5 3337U 14 inch Ultrabook NP530U4E-K01AU HD4000 4GB 500GB Windows 8

Is dirt cheap!! I wish i was in the market for a new lappy!

    • Hi there i'm in the market for a new laptop around $600 how would the samsung compare to the toshiba L50 available at dick smith: http://www.dicksmith.com.au/laptops-notebooks/toshiba-15-6-s…

      Thanks for any help!

      • +1

assuming you can even get the Samsung if you wanted it that is :P

There is a solid overview of the Toshiba model above

Only issue is that it is quite heavy and clunky if you want to take around places. If you're mainly using lappy on the go at uni or elsewhere (particularly if you're just browsing the web and doing low requirement stuff), I would go with the Samsung if you can. The batt life might also be better - Ativ Series (generally) has quite good batt life, even this Ivy Bridge 3rd Gen Intel model.

        • +1

Yeah the toshiba you've linked is identical to the one i gave an overview on above, except yours is $100 cheaper and has an i5 instead of i7, but the rest of the pros and cons still apply, and like Astro said the toshiba is much less portable.

As for the NAS drives, we are only offering Seagate ST2000VN000 on our frenzy deal today.

  • Any possible deals on the TP-Link TL-MR3020? I'd buy that 3 TB drive and the router if it was under $130…

    hi rep

can you give free shipping for the 3TB hardrive ?

  • Hi rep, any chance on a deal on a 3TB USB 3? Such as http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/buffalo-drivestation-3…

  • Desperately need a deal on 64Gb MicroSD! Going on holidays on the weekend!!!

  • The Western Digital 3TB Elements still have a Caviar Green SATA inside?

Not worth it, too slow so may as well get the seagate for $115

    • Who uses a 3TB as a boot drive, though, these days?

      • People like me who only have 2 SATA ports on my motherboard but want a bigger HDD. I also burn a fair amount of DVDs.

  • Anyone have any comments on the Acer ASPIRE V5-573? Seems pretty nice for this price.

  • Hi Rep. Just bought Netgear R6300, how do I get the bonus adapter?

  • +1

Anyone here used that Buffalo NAS? Any good?

  • The Asus Taichi seems like a good deal, does anyone know if the battery life is good? I'm choosing between this and the Surface Pro2

    • The Taichi has an older Ivy Bridge 3rd Gen Processor it seems (from the spec sheet). So I wouldn't expect battery to be too high, reviews put it at around 3-5 hours depending on usage - also complaints on how the dual screen practically works.

Advantages over the Surface Pro 2 would be, it's got a 256GB SSD (so cheaper than the SP2 equivalent), is a proper laptop (keyboard/stand and screen size made one reviwer deem SP2 eloquently as "laptop-minus"). Otherwise, if you want the wacom stylus, longer batt life (~8 hours depending on usage again), and more tablet esque design I would go with SP2.

If you're on the go a lot Surface Pro 2 would be my reccomendation, if you don't mind the form factor of the kickstand and keyboard, and smaller screen.

  • Any Samsung Micro SD please? will buy asap i promise! :P

    • +1

Wait for MemoryCity sale, they regularly have one, with free shipping.

  • With regards to the Buffalo LinkStation Duo 4TB 2 Bay Network Storage LS-WX4.0TL/R1-AP $269 does it contain 4TB hard drive or $269 is just for the NAS and hard drive have to be purchased separetely.

    • +1

      It comes with the drives.

    • +1

      Comes with 2 x 2GB HDD installed

  • Rep could I please get 2 of the 8gb cards?

    • +1

Was about to get one until I noticed it's only class 2
(not sure how it would affect full HD recording or taking shots on camera?)

      • +1

Class 2 is fine for taking single still photos. It may take a few seconds to write each photo if each photo is several megabytes size.

I wouldn't use class 2 card for Full HD video recording. Absolute minimum class 4, with class 6 or 10 better as they have more headroom.

    • Sorry usama91 - strictly limited to 1 per customer.

      regards
      SE

  • Anyone owns an Asus Fonepad and can comment the quality and if worth $199?

    • reviews seems to say it's a decent piece of kit but processor speed lets it down. good only if you want to use a small tablet as a phone, as there're better products for the price in the tablet and phone category

  • Hello Rep,

How do you get free shipping on the SD card? It is coming up as 8.95

    • Hi fonnae,

If you can't get it to work, try below steps:

Add product to your shopping cart
      - Go to shopping cart & enter your post code if you have not and press apply
      - You should then see a discount of the postage on the right side of the cart, just above the Total price
      - After you verify, you may then checkout with your preferred payment method

      Regards
      SE

    • I think it might be sold out .. there's no Add to Cart button.

      • +1

        Hi Noz,

You are right, it is sold out —- the first item to be ozbargained.
