After this I am getting more Amex accounts.

  • +1

    Only amex-issued card.

    • +1

Wait a day or 2 and they will open it up to bank issued card like the previous 2 promotions ie Westfield and DJ

      • Only 2000 on offer so won't last very long. People with multiple or supplementary amex cards are joining more than once. See comments posted on deal.

  • -7

Receiving error when trying to subscribe "This offer is by invitation only". I have a bank issued Amex card.

    • -8

Is OK offer too good to be true for negative types anyway. Would surely mess up your day.

      • +1

You obviously have an issue with anyone negating your ad - learn to write a clear description - many others on here are experiencing the same disappointment I reflected. Most people don't differentiate between a bank issue Amex card, and an Amex issued Amex card. The reality is this offer is by 'Invitation Only', an extremely important fact that you carefully omitted. If anything, your post is deceptive and misleading. Lastly, consider taking a basic grammar course prior to leaving any further commentary.

        • -6

Damn, sorry for my obviously criminal behavior being so deceptive and misleading.

Again, I was way too busy 'carefully omitting' details to worry too much about grammar.

But seriously, thanks for the amusement, I feel like I've been in a spy movie now. You need to lighten up.

btw. My view, too much effort on perfect grammar on weekends is uncool. Telling people to take a grammar course on a weekend, also no cool points for you.

        • Great deal! Thanks, got one!

        • Just curious, if you are standing by your statement of my writing a deceptive and misleading deal (not ad). Why did you withdraw your neg?

    • I got the same message

    • +4

      OP clearly states "eligible cards".

    • Apparently I'm not 'invited' either

  • nice !!!

  • ahh bugger, not bank issued cards..

    otherwise a great deal !!!

  • +2

Wow… so if you have two amex cards, you can get free membership with one card & another $60 in store with another card?
This is why I have amex!

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • Do you think the membership cost is an eligible transaction ?

    • +2

Is specified on the link as eligible.

    • +1

yeah it is. They don't have seperate Merchant ID for the cards only.

  • thanks - great deal!

  • Thanks OP!

  • Thanks, registered.

  • Interesting to see this partnership, I wonder if Costco now they are getting more stores will move to the US system and not take credit cards other than Amex and have the branded Amex option with cash back.

  • +3

It has to be in store right? Or can I join online? There's no Costco in QLD yet, but one imminent

    • +1

      I believe so
      The terms say this:
The following are not Eligible Transactions:
      1. Purchasing a Merchant's goods through a third party
      2. Transactions that are subsequently cancelled or refunded
      3. Online transactions.

    • +1

May be there is nothing to lose trying the online signup.
If Amex doesn't give you the credit you should be able to 'return' the membership if you don't want it.

    • You can join online but you have to pick up the membership card from the store.

Unfortunately this campaign is by invitation only.

    • It said thank-you for registering - does that mean it works? mine is a professional org issued amex? will that work?

  • +3

I did not get an invitation and just registered two cards and got the following emails:

    Hi,

You have successfully registered your Card ending in 52002.

Spend $60 in store at Cosco before 24 December 2013 on your registered Card will ensure you are eligible for the $60 credit back. Statement Credits may take up to 8 weeks to issue but generally, they should be credited within 5 business days upon confirmation by the merchant of the Eligible Transaction. Offer terms and conditions apply.

    Yours sincerely,
    The American Express Network

    • Bank issued or Amex direct card ?

    • same here - mine is AMEX issued Amex card

  • Great…got 2 Amex cards. Wife has 2 and parents have 1 each. 6 cards for $360. Gonna buy a tv and roll each card $100

    • By two cards, do you mean 1 primary card and 1 supplementary or two primary cards? Would be great if I can also register with my wife's supplementary card too.

      • I have primary and 1 supp for my wife … both registered separately and got 2 emails on successful registered.

        • Did it work for a supp card?

        • i registered my wife's card and mine(suppl),went to costco last saturday and used both cards(wife is not a member) with my costco membership without problems.$120 have already appeared on our AMEX statement ;)

        • Didn't work for my supp card.
Called Amex and was told this promo is for main card holder only.
          Hm…

        • Do you see it as a two separate -$60 transaction on the statement?

        • yes, 2 separate transactions but both cards were registered succesfully prior shopping @ Costco

    • +1

If you are planning on splitting up the payment as such they will not accept it. They check the card holder name on transactions particularly if you have a non member guest. Good luck!

      • Last year i bought a boombox and used my amex, i was not a member back then, just went with my in laws and used their card, no problems at all

        • And? Obviously won't happen 100% of the time.

        • and? and when 10 days later the boombox failed to turn on, i went back, they refunded the total on my card and then I purchased again a new one from the shelf still using my in-laws membership(mother in law was with me of course)
I'm not saying it happens everyday but with me it worked twice in a row without problems. that's 100% ;)

      • +1

        It's a bit hit and miss using a non-member's cc…

I've been accepted and denied on different occasions

    • Costco only allow 1 card per transaction don't they?

  • does renew count as well?

    • Yes

  • Great deal. Tried with ANZ issued card, no dice. Wonder if they'll extend to bank issued cards like they have on other AMEX deals.

  • +2

Registered my card, will use that to get free membership. Registered MrsDixit's supplementary, will use that to get $60 worth of stuff for free from CostCo. Awesome. Awesome to the max. Now, what are the CostCo bargains?

    • doesn't supplementary cards have the same number?

      • Not for amex. I just received supp card for my wife amd it has a different number hence I am able to register 2x.

      • Ts and cs specially talk about registering supplementary cards separately.

      • They need 2 card numbers to know which transactions relate to the primary or supp cards.

  • op I got 2 <3

  • +1

Cheers mate, free membership to Costco FTW!

  • +1

Thanks OP! I love AMEX :)

  • Thanks, just signed up for $60 membership, hopefully will get $60 statement credit so it becomes free membership!

    • Does the payment portal accept AMEX?

    • Hi
If u sign up online, have you received your $60 credit back yet? Thx

  • Brilliant. Thanks!

  • It quite clearly states used in store and excludes online transactions.

  • +1

Thanks OP! Just registered my AMEX issued AMEX card.
I am unsure if I can join the COSTCO membership online though after reading #2 below.

To earn your $60 statement credit:
    1. Register your eligible American Express Card
    2. Become a Costco member in store for just $60 before 24 December 2013

  • must not be many left now if only 2k available :D get in fast peeps

  • Damn I wish I had a amex card!! Guess signing up is too late now

  • +1

Thanks OP, excellent offer. Such a luxury having Costco in Ringwood now.

  • Nice! AMEX issued card works fine. Tried bank ones don't work. Very generous of Costco and AMEX.

  • Registered, thank you OP

  • Hopefully like the other Amex deals, they offer a bank-issued card version soon!

  • how do we confirm if this works for online membership too?

  • +1

    Worked for -
    David Jones Amex
    Qantas Discovery Amex
    BMW Gold Amex

  • Since there's no Costco in Qld, Can I join for my sis online and she can pick up the membership card in Sydney

    • just tell your sister to apply by herself. it's much easier

      • But she doesn't have an Amex card. The Costco membership card will be under her name.

  • +2

I registered just now, can I go to costco now?

    • nope. at least a day after registering your card

      • Where did you see that. Am curious if I need to go again.

  • -4

I wonder if this will work with Costco servo…

Thanks OP, got 5 cards registered.

  • Thanks OP. I've been holding off joining Costco due to its membership fee but I have no excuse now!
    "Thank you for registering!
Now that you have registered your Card, the next time you spend $60 or more in store at Costco, American Express will issue you one statement credit worth $60."

    • Believe me that this is a bait to hook you up and you'll be buying a lot of items you do not need just cuz the deal at Costco would be 'not to be missed'.

Woolies and Westfarmers really need to get their act together before there are 50 Costco's across Australia (which would just be a few more years - if large supermarket chains keep ripping up people the way they are currently doing).

However, Costco is not really any good on things like fresh produce, meat etc and there are abundant cheaper alternatives.

      • I went to the new Costco in Ringwood a couple of weeks ago. Bought a membership and didn't find what anything interesting (their range is actually pretty poor for groceries, toiletries and oral care). They didn't have many brands I couldn't get elsewhere. The only mouthwash they had was Listerine. They only sold ONE model of electric toothbrush. I was hoping for some american branded stuff but all they had of that was some candy, and even then you can go to a candy shop which has bigger range than Costco.

Compared to a supermarket, their range of grocery products is inferior. Compared to a HN/JB their electronics range is inferior.

So I asked for a refund. The condition of refund though is that I cannot become a member again for another year…

So I'd have to miss out on this deal unless I got someone else to make the card. Just as well it was limited to AMEX issued cards so I couldn't get in anyway.

  • Registered. Thanks OP. Just in time for membership renewal. :)

  • I registered using my DJ's card and got a confirmation email too…

  • Sorry
Unfortunately this campaign is by invitation only. Please visit https://www.amexconnect.com.au/ for other fabulous offers.

  • That is free $60 to spend? Why there is not a Costco in WA?

  • I am not a member of Costco but my friend is and I always go with him. Would I be able to just spend and get $60 off when I pay with my Amex or I need to be a member of Costco for it to work?

  • Sorry!

    • I didn't receive an invitation and i just got an email saying…

      Hi jv,
You have successfully registered your Card ending in 666.

  • Last time I went with my mate on his membership, paid total bill using my card …I would say this would be considered as VALID eligible transaction for CREDIT …Point 3

    "Only valid transactions made:
    1. On your Registered Card;
    2. After the date you register your Card; and
    3. Directly in store at Costco in Australia are Eligible Transactions."

  • -2

Got 4! Woooow, $240 credits to go.

  • Just registered my DJ Amex. Thanks OP
Was actually on my way to Costco too :)

  • +1

Does buying a membership count as the $60 spend, or do you need to spend $60 in-store after buying a membership?

    • Buying a membership counts.

But if you're a member already, then you need to spend over $60 to get $60 credit back

  • Nice find - thanks OP

  • 2 cards registered. Cheers OP!

  • Thanks OP, this should be deal of the month :)
