Microsoft Surface Touch Cover @Microsoft Store Was $139.99 NOW $69.99

290

I missed the HN special for the Surface Cover for $66 when I got this Surface deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/124568. Been looking for the cover at a similar price but no luck. Finally saw this deal at Microsoft Store for a slightly more expensive price, not as cheap as the previous HN deal but it's still not bad. Was trying to get HN to price match so I can use my $5 email promo code but the HN online chat guy was still checking the price after 30 min so I gave up at the end.

Use the keyboard before buying one. I've tried these keyboards and find them unbearably uncomfortable and inaccurate. The other surface keyboard is fantastic though.

Keep in mind this is the original touch cover the new model(touch cover 2) is far better, it is more responsive, has back lighting and it is also slightly thinner and more rigid

if it was a type cover and buy instantly, these are useless.

I had two touch covers teared badly, at the joints, corners and on its back. Don't waste your $70, get the Type Cover 2!

They came out with a type cover 2 for a very good reason.

I love the touch cover that came with my MS Surface RT. I have ladyfingers though so maybe thats partly why I can use it quite effectively.

This is a good price for the touch cover if you bought the JB Hi-Fi Surface RT deal a few weeks ago. Makes the tablet overall so much more usable, because you can use it as a quasi-laptop as well when necessary (or just use the cover as a cover for other times).

  • My local JB is very friendly. I showed them ozbargain and got touch cover for $66. Returned after reading others comments.

    • Showed Ozbargain? It was on the HN website?

      • $66 cover in HN was mentioned in the post of $233 surface RT. Showed the forum's comment to staff on my phone.

Some folks found the touch covers fiddly to use and inaccurate.
Some folks have gotten used to them after a period of time.
Some folks never have gotten used to them.

Without a keyboard cover, your next best alternative is a bluetooth or usb keyboard/mouse combination. But the Microsoft covers fit well and provide protection for the screen.

They will get dirty over time.

Probably best to try the touch cover before buying. I have a Type Cover 2 with the $220 Surface RT, but it was almost $150, which is close to the price of the original devices. The Type Cover 2 was a left-over from a Surface Pro 2 purchase/(and probable return).

The new v2 covers have backlighting and enhanced guestures.

  • Hands on advice - avoid! You will prefer the onscreen keyboard.

  • Thanks guys for your feedback on this. I just went to JB and tried both keyboards. Touch cover was useless. Type cover also a rip for that price I think.

  • can i use a surface 2 on my toshiba tablet?

    • Probably not, until Microsoft releases their wireless adaptor.

The cost of the wireless adaptor and type cover will get close to the price of the 32gb RT tablet, which is a very odd value proposition for most people.

  • I got my type cover 2 purple colour from JN hifi for $110. I think it is okay price

    • did you got any special discount?

No, I just walking in and ask how much is it , then I offer 100, she say she can't do it. Then I said 110 I will take it now, then done

  • Just bought a leather look case with keyboard on ebay for $14 (free postage). Will do for me.

I bought the touch cover from HN the last time the sale was on. I was also someone who thought the touch covers were useless and expensive and should buy a type cover. The on screen keyboard works well but is very slow to type up anything more than a few words and not having a mouse can be challenging at times. However having no cover is not great for protection of the screen and having a low cost type cover does solve some of the difficulty you have when trying to navigate the desktop side of Windows 8.1. The trackpad is too small and not responsive enough to replace a mouse but having something is much better than nothing. If you have the money buy the type cover 2 but if not I would highly recommend this deal over no cover at all. It does work well enough to justify the price and it protects the screen and the edges as it overhangs slightly over the tablets edges. It also can be used as a platform when flipped back.
