$1 + $1.50 bf for Tickets $5 Goldclass + $1.50 bf- Sunday 15th Reading Cinemas

2010

Site is having a few glitches with the submission button on payment and maintence so keep trying.
I had a transaction fail and tried again and have 2 payments pending on my banking account so be sure to keep an eye on your transactions if you can view them.

I bought tickets for a friend and got the pdf no issues.
I purchased 2 tickets to a different movie myself which I did have issues with and the one that went through twice. Tickets not sent to my email. Payment went through twice.

Update from Mandurah Reading Cinemas
Reading Cinemas Mandurah Hi Everyone, I have just spoken with our IT guys and they are aware of the issues. Unfortunately it is down to server overload. All our cinemas are running this amazing offer and the servers cant cope at this moment in time. - Nick

You can purchase tickets in-store it seems.
Reading Cinemas Mandurah Tickets are currently being sold over the counter at the cinema. We will let you know when the website is back up and running.

I would check with your cinema though.

TRANSACTION ERROR REFUND.
Contacted my local cinema and they have put in a request to their accounts manager to refund me. I can purchase new tickets over the counter. My session has only sold 6 tickets so that's no issue. If there is an error you will need to contact them to organise a refund.

Slightly off topic, but seems the right thread to ask. Does anyone still go to movies without checking the ratings on IMDB first?

If you check IMDB, do you have a personal cut-off? For me: to buy half price tickets requires at least 8.0 rating (I never go at full price). Dirt cheap to free tickets like these: I would still not invest my time if the rating is below 7.0.

Do you too find that IMDB ratings are getting manipulated by the big studios as a reaction to people checking? To me it appears that many movies start out with 8.x rating on 10s of thousands of votes, but then over time drop significantly when the number of votes goes into the 100s of thousands.

I don't find IMDB ratings to have a very strong correlation with whether I will like the movie, to me Rotten Tomatoes is much more helpful. Essentially their rating boils down to "what percentage of film critics generally liked the film."

      • +5

        I would agree with this.
IMDB was good pre 2000 when it was a pain in the butt to sign up to the site and post and the only people that bothered were movie nerds.
Back then a good movie was 6.x, really good was 7.x, and an absolute classic was 8.x
Since they made the whole signup/voting process easier, it seems you need an 8+ to be a watchable movie.

Maybe I am just getting old and grumpy :-)

      • Thanks for reminding me of Rotten Tomatoes. Knew of them years ago, but kind of forgot.

The test will come tomorrow - will 'American Hustle' stand up to the 94% fresh or not…

      • same, imdb has become a bit of a popularity contest. metacritic is another alternative to rotten tomatoes

        • IMDB is about as reliable as facebook likes and linkedin endorsements. (maybe even ozbargain +1)
I have people on linkedin I have never met trying to endorsing me for things I don't even do at work.

      • In my own experience Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton At the Movies is more reliable than Rotten Tomatoes.

Who do you side with when they disagree with each other?

    • I do check imdb for ratings to get an idea of what to expect, or sometimes to help me decide on what to see if I'm torn between two movies. I also don't see movies that have a rating less than 7, unless there's nothing else on or I don't want to wait for it on DVD.

As for your last paragraph, I don't believe the studios affect the ratings. I think the main reason the ratings drop is because the people who go to see a movie before anyone else are the hardcore fans. They're going to love the movie regardless of whether its good (at least initially) and will give it an above average rating. Over time as more and more people see it the film will slowly drop down to where it should generally be sitting. This also explains why cult movies slowly go up over time - more people discover them and rate them highly.

prices seem to be full price for me - what am I doing wrong?

    • Not all sessions at all cinemas have this special pricing. Change cinema or session time, it should clearly state $1 per ticket and not the normal price. Good luck!

      • thanks, I tried just now and they seem to be $1. Strange, maybe the website is a bit glitchy

You're probably not selecting Sunday the 15th. It's clearly written in the title.

  • Thanks OP! Got some tickets for my family.

    Fantastic deal

Taking the missus and my son to cloudy 2

    sunday at elizabeth

  • Movie marathon starts tomorrow. Great deal OP.

  • got in as soon as deal was on facebook before it was here…phew.
    3 gold lounge tickets :)

  • Amazing deal! I was too slow for my area though-_-

  • Belmont is no longer selling at the discount price.

    • I just bought hunger games at belmont a few minutes ago. Earlier this morning they weren't discounted but seems like they are now.

      • Cheers, worked for me now. Also heading to see hunger games.

    • Just got 3 for belmont

    • Wasn't impressed with Belmont . We were having our meal delivered and the girl gave us the wrong meal then spilt an entire large cool drink all over me . Apologised and returned 5 mins later with a half dozen largish paper towels which was woefully inadequate for the volume of liquid . Spent the film soaking wet and freezing cold . I would of been asking for the manager at the normal asking price . As it was I was happy to get home and have a shower . I will not be going back .

  • Just worked for Belmont WA, just booked 4 tickets for this Sunday for $26

    Winning!!

      No pos vote though?

      • How the hell is that worthy of me being negged???

  • Can anyone confirm: Do you have to pay booking fees for each movie you want to see back to back?

    • Yes, $1.50 per ticket booking fees apply if purchased online. for two tickets I paid $3 dollars booking fees. still not bad, got two tickets for a total of $5.

  • amazing!!!! thanks for sharing.. It was very quick, simply printed it once the payment went through.
    Is it every sunday?

    • +1

      One off I think.

this is probably the best deal i've ever seen on ozbargain, agree?

  • is it expired now? prices are listed as $18 for me?

    • +1

I believe there is a set allocation of tickets available for each cinema, movie & session times.

Once they're gone they revert to full price.

  • +1

My problem is not finding a session, it is finding someone to watch a movie with me ><

  • Thanks

  • thanks OP got 4

  • just bought 4 for tomorrow , thank you

  • Missed all the Gold Class tix - but regular are still $1.
Does this have to be booked online, or do they take walk ins ?
seems like plenty of regular seats all day.

    • walk-in should be okay. Maybe call and see how many seats are left for the sessions.

  • Thanks, OP!

  • Just rang up the Dandenong Reading, enquiring about not receiving email confirmation. He said to just print out and bring in your bank statement or just show evidence of the purchase from your account.

  • Website down 10:45am EST

  • Had no troubles paying online, however when I went collect the tickets I found out I could have bought them over the counter. Could've got an extra 3 tickets just from booking fees!

  • +1

But then you also could have missed out.

  • Redbank cinema no. 3 had very visible lines across the projector screen. (damaged perhaps)

Had I paid full price as opposed to $2.50, I would've been quite upset.

  • Just watched the 6pm session of Hunger Games at Rhodes. Decent cinema

  • Went to Belmont gold lounge…nice cinemas. Strange thing was it was sold out online but it was empty on one side when we got there? I wonder if ppl didn't turn up cos was too hot!?

    • I was wondering this too! Saw American Hustle and then One Chance and both times wasn't able to choose seats to the side because they were sold out, and unable to request food/drink to be delivered half way through because the cinemas were full. Yet during the movie they were nowhere near full!

You'd think ppl would want to escape the heat with a film… That's what we did! Great bargain, thanks OP.

  • +1

just came back from auburn readings

we watched American Hustler in gold class and we got complimentary popcorn and soft drink without even asking

    • +1

No free popcorn or soft drink from Belmont WA even after asking… Preferred the TitanXC cinema over gold class too as it wasn't as packed and the screen was bigger.

    • was gold class full? We considered lining up after hunger games to see but the line was a bit long and the website wasn't fully loading

      • fully booked gold class for my session

  • My cinema had dead pixels lol..Seats were small, no leg room, small cinema. $2.5 it's fine, but regular price would be a rip off.

  • There were so many people in my session that people ended up sitting on the stairs.

  • Watched The hunger games at Rouse Hill. The whole complex is full of people even at Sunday evening. $1 cannot go wrong.
Thanks for the wonderful offer, I wonder what would be their motivating campaign which doesn't even cover their electricity bills with $1 tickets!!

  • i went to hunger games at westlakes (SA). I also bought tickets for Delivery Man, but didnt stick around to see it, forgot another commitment.

  • We saw American Hustle at Belmont in XC - was great! Very few people (not surprising for a 2115 session on a sunday). Apparently there were 'technical difficulties' during the previous XC showing though which delayed the screening.

  • Took the whole family out for the evening to see Enders game. Walked in so saved the booking fee. Great movie wouldn't have normally gone to. Theatre not full at all.

Person in front kept taking photos of the movie and sending them to friends with a typed message - what's with that ?

Hey, for 4 bux, it was 2 hrs of great bonding time.
Next up, xmas bonding time - how much is that goin'a cost me ?

Thanks OP - wouldn't have known without you.
Edit: OP, what does bf stand for in your title - I thought bf is "best friend" or "boyfriend"

    • +2

      bf = booking fee

      • The Oracle has spoken to me - thanks Donga

  • +1
