    Nope - the Type 2 is clearly labelled as such below the Surface logo: "Type Cover 2 with backlighting". And where OP's pic says "Type Cover", the Type Cover 2 has the Microsoft logo.

  I would probably spend a bit more and get the type cover 2, good if you're in a darker environment, and i found the keys to be more responsive than the 1st gen too, not sure if there was anything wrong with the 1st gen demo when I compared them.

  Even at this price its over priced, but $50 off is good. I want one, wish they dropped these to $60 like MS did the touch covers.

    Nope - that's a Touch Cover. The Type Covers have moveable keys like a laptop.

        I paid $140 for the Type Cover 2 from Harvey Norman and it was well worth it. Backlighting… mmm!

    good luck getting that price, must have some nice sweet talking skills.

    Also to those who say they're overpriced, the iPad keyboards are ~$100 as well. I would wager they are similar quality but I may be wrong. The Type Cover 2 also has a backlit keyboard so I guess there is quite a lot of tech there.
