      • Yes the OP should have stated in the topic that the deal is only for Android device users.

No use for iPad or iPhone users

Well, duh. Apple locks down IOS so users are not allowed to use any app-store except Apple.
So there is no Amazon app store for iphone. Or any other.
If its not the Apple store, it won't work on Apple, and thats apparently how their customers like it. Or else.
Really no need to update the heading.

(Though I hear it is possible to jailbreak your iPhone, and go to Cydia for forbidden apps. )

      • +4

Re forbidden apps. Only thing that is keeping me from buying an iphone, or any other apple crap for that matter. it's my bloody device which I paid for with my bloody money and I want to bloody be able to do whatever the hell I want to do with it.

        • +1

It ridiculous, it's as bad as if Ford told you that you aren't allowed to use any after market parts on your car, you plain tell the to go jump, but when it's Apple, people are on drugs about their devices

        • Well, you CAN use the after market parts but you can only buy them through Ford, and they have to be Ford-certified beforehand, and Ford takes a cut too. Also, you can only get them through the only Ford shop in the whole world.

But you can at least use fuel from ANY retailer you want though, as long as it's Ford-certified. Ford takes a cut too.

It's good to be the king.

        • +2

it seems ridiculous now to consider that the Dept of Justice booked Microsoft for bundling its browser with its operating system. Apple are surely past that point by now.

        • Microsoft got around it hilariously by simply integrating the browser into their next OS which I'd argue is worse than bundling it, then sticking their finger at the justice dept and legally getting away with it.

    • And what does it tell you, mate?

  • that $5 can only be used for apps or online storewide?

    • +1
      1. $5 promotional credit can only be used to purchase eligible digital products through the U.S. Amazon Appstore and may not be combined with other offers.
  • Are there any stand out apps to spend the $5 credit on and when does it expire?

    • you can get keyboard apps( Swype or SwiftKey ) for free.

      • Already downloaded SwiftKey for free when they had a greatest hits app promo earlier this year.

    • Thanks for that! I was wondering why it wasn't working earlier.

  • +3

Thanks for the deal. Played the free app of the day "Draw a Stickman: Epic" for a few minutes and it's actually a good game. Usually the freebie of the day is some terrible derivative rubbish.

  • I got $1 credit for Amazon music. No $5 credit yet.

  • Awesome! Tripview finally free!

  • so should i upgrade my amazon app now or wait till deal active?

  • +2

I think anyone interested in the credit should wait until it is 12AM in NYC on 24/12/13 - wait another 40 minutes (til it is 4PM Australia Eastern Summer Time).

  • Can say no to free $5

    • You can, but why would you?

  • +2

    Sounds like a great deal.
I just signed up a new account - did everyone use an address in the US to get this? I used an Aussie address and haven't seen any email with any credits yet…

(And I've downloaded 2 free apps)

    • Ended up opening a new a/c on amazon.com (not au) with US addy to get the credit (how many hoops does an Ozbargainer need to jump through for their free credits!)

      • how many hoops does an Ozbargainer need to jump through for their free credits

        As many as it takes?

  • How you find TripView , search has no results, can someone direct link or advise how to find.

    • +1

Amazon is a US company so they don't have Tripview but the Samsung Store does.

      • But they have dumb ways to die..

  • Doesn't look like Amazon sell 'mx player' :(

    Unless I've overlooked it?

  • used my $5 to buy OfficeSuite Professional 7 for $4.99 (normally $14.99) …

  • Got mine instantly after I downloaded the appstore update then downloaded the app of the day "Stick man"

  • Do you still need to have the Amazon app installed/running & connected to Amazon to use downloaded apps?

    • +1

Yes, apps are encoded with amazon appstore license check

      • Thanks.

So …. if I'm somewhere with no mobile reception and try to use my navigation app it doesn't work? That's clever

        • +1

That won't be problem. Just need to logged in previously on the app store (in fact no logout) on the Amazon appstore.

  • How do I check that the $5 has been added to my account?

    • It seems to only b e available to US addresses, and the description of this bargain should be updated with this info. It also mentions the US app store in the terms and conditions.

It looks like you need to sign up and supply a US address, but im not 100% sure.

      • you dont need US address I think most of us got it with AU addresses(I am one of them).

        • so how to know if we have that $5 credit??

        • +1

you will get a confirmation email that its has been added to your account and will be used in next purchase

this is a copy of the email

Thank you for downloading an app from the Amazon Appstore. We have added a $5.00 promotional credit to your account. We will automatically apply this credit to future purchases of any apps or in-app items.

        • ok i havent got the email.

        • try to download another app

        • got it instantly.. woot!

  • havent got mine.

  • Anyone know if this works for people who already have installed the amazon appstore and have already installed apps from it?

Edit: Whoops nevermind saw post above with details I am after.

  • Still haven't got mine. Downloaded 5 hours ago.

    • try again, the deal is only active 3 hours ago.

  • download a free game and received email for the $5 credit minutes later.
    Anything worth buying? :-)

  • +5

I had trouble initially, was registered to amazon.COM.AU for "manage your Kindle", no $5 credit.
…changed it back to amazon.COM and got the fiver no worries.

    • Thanks, this was the only thing that worked. I also seemed to pick up the $1 for Music.

      Can't complain at all!

  • Thanks for sharing OP.

  • I can't find anything to buy!

    The Agony!

  • +1

I've asked Grofsoft about publishing their TripView app on Amazon App store, I think they might care to do that if everyone here do the same (the OzBargain effect)..

  • I tried alot of times and couldnt get this offer. uninstalled app store, reinstalled, opened a new account with an american address and got my code instantly.

    • it may your old account with amazon AU, just switch to amazon US. and will work (this what happened with my friend)

      • I already check that. It was showing the US flag.

      • +1

How you change that setting. I cant seem to find it

  • How about "Plex for Android", "JuiceDefender Ultimate", "Shazam Encore"? all those apps are sold at $4.99.

    • All 3 are great apps.

  • thanks worked straight away

  • I tried for the second time 3 hours ago and it did not work again. I just tried a short while ago and it worked immediately. This time I used Internet Explorer instead of Chrome. Strange.

  • Awesome work op merry Christmas

  • Thanks op, got 1 weather inapp purchase & 2nd phone Runtastic pro.

  • +1

tried everything suggested here, still no code :(

  • Top deal. I'd recommend SwiftKey (1.99) and wolfram alpha (2.99) =)

  • thanks got $5 credit email today.

  • Can this be used to purchase digital PC games as well or android only?

If Amazon is suggesting I install their app store on my google phone, I hope they don't object to me installing the google store onto my Kindle Fire…

Can apps downloaded via Amazon store be updated via Google play? I don't really want to segregate half my apps from one store and half from the other.

  • Can you buy Amazon ebooks via the app store? Never bought apps etc from Amazon before.

  • +1

Seems there's no way to check if the credit has been applied to your account. I can't find anywhere how much is in my wallet.
