  • I paid $1.99 per pack last night in SA - On special this week

  • -1

Don't look now but come on down to Vic.
We have the same deal as Andy19363 from SA outlined as well as the $1 boost to your gift card if you are participating
in the promotion, making the total only, yes only $1 for a 12 pk, or 8.35c. each. Did I say 8.35c each.

    • That is unbelievable….
No boost for SA…. But still good deal

    • You have misunderstood the "value" of the gift coupons….. they work like flybuys points, ie a flybyys point isn't a dollar, nor is the gift credits.

Each credit is worth 0.5c, ie it takes 200 points to earn a dollar of credit; all the bonus $1 gift credit offers is 0.5 cents which is half of 1%. In order to get any benefit from the coles.com.au/giveaway promotiion, you need to speed around $1,000 over the 13 weeks (approx.) of the promotion …. or get lucky on the cash draws.

Just the same, the $1.99 price is very good — but it certainly does not equate to $0.99 buy price as you DO NOT get a dollar back on the deal, you get a "possible" credit of half of one cent towards the gift card "real" value, but only if you spend enough over the promotion period!

In a nutshell, $200 of spend, might get you back $1 of gift card value… but only if you spend enough to get $5 of value or 1000 gift card points.

      • That's incorrect. Certain items like this one are "Gift card booster" items which add $1 credit to your gift card on purchase, not just the 0.5c credit per dollar.

        • I read it very, very carefully, I am pretty sure that I have it right now. I originally thought otherwise, but some of the wording didn't make proper sense so I re-read the terms and conditions.

        • The specific details are here:

          http://www.coles.com.au/giveaway/terms-and-conditions.aspx

10.4 A "Gift Card Credit" is not a real monetary amount and represents points earned by a participant in the Promotion on each Eligible Purchase which is converted to a monetary value on a Coles Gift Card at the end of the Promotion in accordance with the amounts set out in 10.5. "Gift Card Credits" are not redeemable for cash.

10.5 A "Gift Card Credit" of 0.5 cent is awarded for every $1 spent on the Eligible Purchase.

10.6 The Promoter may, at its discretion, provide additional opportunities for entrants to obtain extra "Gift Card Credits" during the Giveaway Promotional Period by purchasing specific products or ranges of products as part of, or in addition to, their Eligible Purchase.

So…. each $1 of spending gives you $1 of "Gift Card Credit", which is worth 0.5 cents and the bonus $1 products only offer you a single additional "Gift Card Credit", except for when it is one gift card credit per kg of a product, such as a meat purchase for example.

          • @affinity: Wrong, Wrong ,Wrong ,I'm with quackstar.

Sorry to rain on your parade,But the specific details you refer to are a bit deeper in your link,I suggest you go to the link you provided… then go to Frequently Asked Questions…then go to " Earn Gift Card Credits" open that up…then go to the third question down.." How much do I need before I earn a Coles Gift Card ? ",open the question and all will be revealed..

In simple English what it means is this ..If i spend $30 or more in a single transaction and I were to include 5 Mars fun packs in the purchase. I would receive 30 x 0.5 cents = 15 cents PLUS 5 x " $1 BOOSTS"= $5.
Therefore 15 cents + $5 = $5.15.But as the Coles gift cards are issued only in increments of $5,I would only receive a gift card for $5 and forfeit the 15 cents.

Further to this I also receive a 4 cent fuel voucher attached to my purchase receipt and also 6 fly buy points are credited to that point program. So based on the example I have provided my original post is correct…$1 per 12 pack or 8.35 cents each.

To quote Francis P. Church, " Yes Virginia (aka affinity ), there is a Santa Claus."

            • @winewizard: I'm not so sure now either way. The dollar boost must give 1000 gift card credits to be a "true" dollar boost to the gift card value, but I don't think it actually does.

Your reference appears to conflict with the actual terms and conditions if read literally. This might end up a minefield. The other problem with this whole promotion is that you cannot find out where you stand until the end of the promotion and the credit gets applied. Logging in to the site only gives you the ability to change your details — you cannot get an account "statement" or balance.

I wouldn't count on your interpretation of the boost value, but it would be a nice bonus if you are actually right.

              • @affinity: No offence, but stop looking too finely into the details and simply look through the catalogue - it is very clear.

                • @quackster: Sorry, but I think it isn't clear and that is where the biggest problems exist.

Let us beg to differ on the the actual details because of the obvious ambiguities that plainly exist. The only way to get a definitive answer will be to wait until the promotion is over and credits are applied. You couldn't count on calling or emailing them for clarification, because you'll probably end up getting a worker's response which may or may not be correct. All this would be much clearer if they offered a facility to check your status, but even that won't help if you haven't hit the magical 1000 points level.

                  • @affinity: I haven't read the terms and conditions so they may not be clear, however if you look at the main page of the giveaway here:

                    http://www.coles.com.au/giveaway/

"Boost the value of your Gift Card when you buy specially marked products"

                    and look under point 3

                    "Gift Card Boosters
Look out for products carrying this symbol to boost the value of your Coles Gift Card."

with a $1 gift card boost symbol.

                    • +1

@quackster: All that is saying is that you get extra fly buys points… err "gift card credits" in this case. It's the same thing fly buys points aren't "real" dollars, nor are the boost credits.

Please let's quit this argument, because as it stands it is possible that one of us is right in our interpretations of the facts and that, my friend is all that is clear. If one is actually right, then there are others whom are wrong. At the end of the day, the ozbargain listing is good, but the buyer needs to be aware that they cannot rely on getting a full "real" dollar of value back on such "boost" purchases — sure, if they do, then it would be a nice bonus…. only time will tell and continuing argument here won't achieve anything.

                    • @quackster: quote
                      “Gift Card Boosters
Look out for products carrying this symbol to boost the value of your Coles Gift Card.”

with a $1 gift card boost symbol.
                      end quote

My interpretation of the above quote is that you actually spend "$1.99" in VIC for the goods, but you get an allowance [in relation to gift card credits] for having spent "$2.99" in VIC, that's the whole dollar boost in a nutshell.

    as an aside…..
Pages 2/3 of the SA catalogue have recipes for meals under $10 for a family of four……

One is for meat pie and peas!
Surely, even the most lacklustre cook in the world would be able to have a crack at making pie and peas!
    List of ingredients….
    frozen pie
    tin of peas
    sauce…….
Not rocket science, (and perhaps not the healthiest meal imaginable).

    What's next?………toast?

    • +1

hahaha yeh I saw those meal ideas. They were being a bit too ambitious with 4 for $10. They should have been more realistic (eg. 4 for $20 or 2 for $15 etc). Either way they are reaffirming the view that four decent meals is expensive!
