Philips EasyStar Robot Vacuum $90 - Harvey Norman (ACT)

70

Hi everyone,

Just purchased a Philips EasyStar Robot Vacuum cleaner for $90 (Edit: To reduce confusion with the receipt - please note that I actually purchased two) - very basic robot vacuum, but I think it's a pretty fair price.

Model:

Got it at Harvey Norman Fyshwick ACT as part of its 1/2 yearly clearance. Please be advised that when I left, the stock was already very low.

Cheers,

    Q. What's the difference between an ozbargainer and a typical Aussie?

    A. An ozbargainer associates Fyshwick ACT with cheap robot vacuums.

I appreciate your honesty. Based on your advice I just called my old boss. He is willing to overlook my resignation from last week. I start again this Monday. Cheers.

    • Well I thought it was amusing…then negged by accident… :-/

This joke deserves far more credit. (currently only +1, from yours truly)

Did it come with "no loss of suction for life" guarantee?

  • I hate how they call these robotic sweepers as vacuum cleaners. They primarily sweep with perhaps a little vacuum to get the dust into the dustpan. Don't know how many times I have tried to explain to my mum that Roombas are not vacuums and doesn't really work on carpets.

All the ads seem to think different

I saw the Roomba on TV yesterday on one of those TV shop channels and they were showing how after using a vacuum cleaner the Roomba was still picking up crap

But then again this thing was probably around the $1000 mark which is why no total price was ever mention except for the $19.95 30 day trial period

You can't have tried one then. I've had a roomba for 18 months now. I have both carpets and tiles, plus 2 cats that shed everywhere. The Roomba does a brilliant job and vacuums as well, if not better, than the average vacuum cleaner. It picks up cat hair from carpet no problem, a sweeper would not do this.
There ARE cheaper sweepers you can buy, and from everything I have heard they are rubbish. But, I have not tried them, so maybe they are ok.
I can verify though that the Roomba is certainly a vacuum and that it does a really good job. Because of its small size it also has a small dust compartment. You need to make sure you empty it out after every vacuum.

My mum has 4 though out the years, the first one probably 4-5 years old. Currently there are only 2 working ones, one of the older one's battery dead, not sure of the other one.

With a brushing sweeping motion that a Roomba utilizes, it will get hair and fur off the carpet much easier. However, the actual vacuuming/sucking is relatively weak, it wouldn't get dust or smaller particles (thats beneath the surface) off carpets.

Don't get me wrong, they are good for what they do. It just wouldn't get the smaller/dust etc from carpet like a proper vacuum will. I.e. Use the Roomba for the regular cleaning, but every now and then bring out the vacuum, at least that's what I try to convince my mum to do.

        • I took out an extended warranty on mine as it is an expensive item and I had read a few things about ones that had broken. Mine stopped picking up debris as it should a couple of weeks ago and is off for repair right now. It should be back next week I hope.
Until the fault I did find the suction fairly decent. Once in a while we go around and vacuum along the skirting boards as the Roombas suction can not get right in to them, only the little side brush.

On Philips official website under floor type for this machine it only states: Wood, laminate and tiles so no carpet? http://www.philips.com.au/c/vacuum-cleaners/super-slim-5-cm-…

Good price OP, but a shame it cant be programmed and no charging docking station.

Not worth it IMO. Get of your arse and do it yourself. The outcome will be 10x better, that's what I say.

  • Same as the Aldi robot vacuum from 12 months ago.

Main benefit is the low height as it can clean under our couch and piano.

I would recommend for dusting duties on floor boards.
It does not return to base, but we just chuck it in a new room every morning before work.

For $99, I think this is a good deal.

  • Went to my local HN store at Adelaide CBD. Showed the receipt to the salesperson. He refused to match the price and said though it was HN in ACT it could be a different franchise. $90 is way too low to sell.
