I know a lot of people hate norton… but $8 for a whole year of security protection for up to 5 devices, i think it's pretty worth it.

be careful what you wish for

What's wrong with norton? IIRC in recent years it's scored some of the highest detection rates amongst the bigger AV suites. It also has a small memory footprint. Also very inconspicuous in day to day computing. This is speaking from experience.

    Seriously, this IS the virus.

    • -1

I cannot agree more. It significantly slows down your computer by hogging up resources. The biggest difference between this and an actual virus is that they expect money for it.

      • +1

Do you speak from experience? I've been using Norton Internet Security for the past few years, and have found it to be very non-intrusive. From what I read, Norton has cleaned up their act (in terms of resource-hogging). But I have never used Norton 360, so I'm not sure how it compares.

I prefer to just boot my OS from an old USB stick to simulate the experience of having Norton installed.

    • Agreed. Norton internet security was fine, but wow did 360 mess up my system.

You could also get Norton Internet Security for $19 from Officeworks and get $20 back.

    • +2

according to the link the $20 cashback only applies to 3,5 & 10 user packs.
      $19 is the 1 user

  • I sold one of these on eBay 2 weeks ago for $50 after JB bundled it with a tablet I bought (I guess they're clearing them out).

Perhaps good resale value for people who can be bothered.

    • But you any get the cashback when you install and activate the software….

Wondering if any Norton haters here have actually tried the newer releases (post 2012). I didn't like Norton either, but was pleasantly surprised after trying out their 2012 beta. Been using Norton ever since. Does not slow my PC at all, scans reasonably quickly and effectively according to reports. Only issue I have is it can be a bit paranoid with it's false positives, but many other security software do that too.

  • Has anyone tried claiming the cashback without installing the product?

My product doesn't expire for another 9 months.

    • +2

I believe you have to activate the product to be eligible for cashback. I had a PC with 220 days of subscription remaining, got in contact with a Norton chat representative PRIOR TO installation, installed the 3-User multi-device Norton 360 and activated the product, then got the 220 days carried over, giving a total of 586 days. Interestingly, I then installed Norton on 2 other PCs (1 day and 11 days subscription remaining respectively), using the same product key, and each of them also got 586 days in the end! So my advice for existing Norton 360 users is to find a device with the most subscription days remaining, get those days carried over with help from Norton, then install Norton on your other devices, using the same multi-user product key of course, and you may get lucky like I did!

      • ok good to know. It's written in the t&c but wasn't sure if anyone actually did it.

  • any deals with trend micro at present ?

  • Please be mindful that you have to install and activate it straightaway (Before 12th Jan 2014 ) to be eligible for the $40 cash back

Who can claim the Christmas Special extra $40 back?*

1-is a resident of Australia or New Zealand, and

2-buys a box of Norton 360 Multi-Device Version 1.0 5 Device from a Harvey Norman, Domayne, Joyce Mayne or Norman Ross retail store in Australia/New Zealand (or the Harvey Norman online store) between December 26, 2013 and January 12, 2014 inclusive, and

3 -installs and activates it on one or more devices in the same period

    • I don't think they check receipts on Point 2 (didn't last time I claimed cash back and the retailer wasn't listed) so you could buy from anywhere if you can get it cheaper or PM'd and just say you got it from one of those retailers.

  • which stores are currently selling this for $80?

  • +1

I love Norton as a product but hate Symantec as a company now. They are pulling all development and support jobs (for all their products) away from their Sydney offices by redundancies the past 12months. The only presence left will be mainly sales and marketing to drive deals to bring traffic by sponsoring race cars and run stupid rebate programs. Atleast 100+ lost their jobs. All these jobs are going overseas where it is cheaper to provide poorer level of service.

Keep that in mind if it matters to you.

    • That's called 'capitalism'. Harsh as it may sound, companies don't exist to be nice to people, they exist solely to make money.
