I know a Retravision deal was listed yesterday at the same price, but this can be ordered online.

It was $5 delivery to my postcode but you can do a store pickup if that suits you.

Maybe try a pricematch at Officeworks if that floats your boat as well.

  • $5 postage to Brisbane too.
The lack of a microSD slot in this is disappointing, but I've heard you can get USB OTG going on it.

  • $5 shipping to 3000 (Vic) also. $254 delivered is a great price. Unless you are mega stingy and live close by Officeworks, grab it through these guys.

cheaper if you price match it at OW.

      1) The OP said 'Maybe try a pricematch at Officeworks if that floats your boat as well.'
      2) We should really be supporting the business who went out on a limb and put their prices down, not OW. all they do is try and dodge price matching, and when they can't dodge it they just swallow the profit which otherwise would have been someone elses (Bing Lee in this case). We should be encouraging Bing Lee, not OW in my opinion.

        • Hilarious. Bloody hilarious.

          ozbargain has 2 main factions:

          1. Rabid tightarses who would sell their own parents to an abattoir if the price was right.

          2. Normal folk looking for deals that helps save money.

You actions decide which faction you are in. :)

        • well you are actually losing out on bargains in the long run by being short sighted and pursuing short-term gains of a few dollars per PM

      • -1

What I would usually do in this case is to get Bing Lee to drop another 5% quoting the OW price match policy. If I have the time, I also goto either TGG or JB to tell them to drop more than 5%.

        • +11

This can go on indefinitely till you get the infamous 3rd finger as a bonus

        • I'd be saying the 2nd finger

      • Your OW must be dodgy, because i've pricematched at over 5 different OW's in the past and they were all really nice and happy to do it even if it meant going for a loss.

They do have their rules in regards to it if you are smart and play within them then you will get what you want.

As long as its Australia Stock and there is proof of stock online or via phone, they will do it. People keep attempting to shaft OW on overseas stock prices on sites like Kogan, which is why they have become more stringent.

Also OW is now doing 10% pricematch, because they seemed to have put the school list 10% pricematch across all pricematch on their systems.

Lol, swallow the profits, REALLY? i remember when Dell did pricing mistake for a $200 item down to $20. lol. Successfully pricematched at OW no questions asked. PAWNED!

        • +1

i don't know who runs your OW but count yourself lucky you've had mostly positive experiences because i can tell you they aren't common

  • NB, Nexus 8 may be coming mid-2014: http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20140120PD216.html

    • +1

Will the Nexus 8 replace the 7 or will it sell along side the 7? Because if you wait till mid 2014 (it's only January right now) then someone will say, the new Nexus 7 2014 is a few months away and you'll be playing the perpetual waiting game..

      I wouldn't wait half a year.

Though in my case, I don't like the size of the bezels on Nexus products. I'm waiting for a deal on Note 10.1 or Tab Pro when it releases.

  • Yep, I just got one of those :D Thanks OP. $228 @ Officeworks.

    • -1

      Can u post a receipt? $228 is more than 5% off $249.

      • +2

It's their Back To School price match (10% off at the moment)

        • +2

I have tried 2 OW stores and was told to provide my school list in order to claim the 10% off the price match. Do you know which school has this on their list?

        • +2

My advice: Ask for them to pricematch the BingLee offer (don't mention the school list bit) - as they confirm the deal and put in the price-match amount into their system on checkout, it'll automatically take off the 10%. (Source: I've gotten the Nexus7 and the Asus T100 this week using this method, and saved 10% on both).

        • I didn't mention it and it got 5% only.

        • Same here, walked up to chick near computer section/tablets. She already knew about the binglee pricematch and told me 5% off binglee price and another 5% off if I can provide back to school booklist which I didn't have. Then went to the counter and the discount was 10% after he selected the binglee price match. This was at Office Works Geelong. Seemed to have plenty of stock so I'm with yojabbajabba, just ask them to price match binglee and see what happens at the counter.

      • I never price matched with other people's receipt before. How does that work? You show them a screenshot of the receipt and that's it?

Don't they usually still verify it by checking the web site, catalogue etc?

        • +1

Yes, most of the time the latter is true; verification of original source. I think some OzBargain-ers has a spell of charm and get away with only a receipt to price-match.

    • +1

Try using this: http://imgur.com/YInlTeN to get $224.10

  • this is the wi-fi version right? is there anyway via otg to enable 3g?

    • +1

I believe tether to your phone or a wifi hotspot are your only options

    • Try BlueVPN+ in the googleplay store or you could root it.

  • +1

How do I check the nexus is 2013 and not 2012 ?

    • Look at the specs.
      Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ S4 with 2gb ram is the 2013 version.
      The 2012 has a Cortex-A9 Nvidia Tegra 3 processor with 1bg ram.

    • +2

      It's written on the box…

    • +1

Visually, the 2013 comes in a blue box, has both front and rear-facing cameras and 2 speakers along the bottom. The 2012 was in grey box, only has a rear-facing camera and a single speaker.

  • The wife's birthday's coming up. Super tempting…

  • Urghhhh so tired of waiting for the release date and price for the new Galaxy Tab Pro. Really tempting to grab one of these instead

  • -1

Bugger. Bought 3 of the 2012 nexus from OW in November. $190 each.

  • Good price I paid $275 for mine, now its $254 delivered, bargain

  • Tried over the phone and they would budge bellow the standard 5% $241

  • Many people were successful at getting the 32GB Nexus 7 at $224.10, so why would people go for this deal?

    • +1

Because that deal is finished now, and not everyone purchased one at that point.

      • +1

        How is it finished?

        • I just re-read the last few comments. I stand corrected, CroDemon was referring to this deal currently being discussed and getting the Officeworks Parents Price Promise 10% off.

        • I have just got mine from JB Hi Fi in Canberra City for $224.10. They bit Bing Lee's $249 by 10%. Good deal!

Here is the link to the receipt if needed:

  • grabbed one, thanks.

  • Got it for $224.10 at OW in the CBD. They knew all about it after I said Nexus 7. Awesome price!

  • +1

Sad to see the price drop, this tablet is worth every cent..but forget resale value…

  • Is it worth upgruding from nexus 7 32gb 2012? The price is tempting

    • +2

Depends on what you need it for. The 2013 is better in most ways (cpu/glass/resolution/ram), but if you don't need to play the latest 3d games then the 2012 is definitely good enough. And the HiSense Sero 7 Pro is even better to be honest, and only around $150 at JB Hi-Fi (but you need to pre-pay and they order it). Same specs as the 2012 Nexus, but with a 5MP camera on the front (with flash!).

JB's site will say it has no stock, but they can get it in quickly with the HiSense rep. I got one for the in-laws after buying the 3 Nexus 2012's for the kids… and wish I'd bought them 3 Sero 7 Pro's instead.

      • thanks for that, I think will stay with nexus 2012, as I only use it for browsing/watching youtubes.
I have iPad 4 but I prefer nexus for the size

        • I have both now. I compared them last night. The screen IMO is worth the upgrade. I have noticed it's fastest and more responsive, but that's thanks to its beefed up specs.

I don't feel like it has a better build quality though, but I'm getting a case to fix that.

It's worth the upgrade while your 2012 edition can have some resell value on eBay.

If you can get it for $224.10, it's worth it.

      • Can the Sero firmware be easily upgraded like the Nexus? And what version of Android comes with it? For $100 less, it's very tempting in any case.

EDIT: Should have done some googling first. Basically, the Sero 7 Pro is a slightly better Nexus 7 2012. Resolution & RAM are the same. The Sero upgrades the OS, front camera and adds mini HDMI & microSD; slight downgrades on the battery and weight.

  • Price matched at officeworks O'Connor after half an hour of arguing. I got 10% off 249 + 11 delivery. For those following, they refused to match retravision. Said the ticket photographed was 8 months old (lie), that they were out of stock (lie) and just outright refused to listen when I said I'd called to confirm stock less than an hour earlier. Apparently head office has called every OW store to say not to honour a retravision match.

  • Furthermore, Osborne park said they were sold out (but also told me there were none available in ANY store) so it really is pot luck with what you end up facing

  • 8 left at Officeworks Joondalup, just got one, $223.20

  • Just buy it from binglee. They deserve it. (not associated with binglee)

  • Will the GPS work in a no phone service area on this model?
    Cheers

    • GPS will work. But if you are talking about GPS interact with google map, you have to have tethering on your phone and get this nexus 7 to connect to that portable wi-fi as google map is using internet to download map data. Hope this helps. Thank you.

P.S: Otherwise if you have offline navigation app like tomtom, or co-pilot live etc, your GPS will work fine.

      • +1

Thanks for that. I usually download part of google maps when I have coverage by typing 'ok maps' in the search field. I can then use google maps in offline mode. Just was not sure if this device had a dedicated GPS chipset to allow that.

        • It did not know that trick until today, thanks as this is very useful.

  • +1

got one from OW for 10% off, thanks OP

    • So how much did you get it for?? 224.10?
      thanks.

  • Whats the point of a 7 inch tablet if you already have a 5-6 inch smartphone. Save the 250$ and wait for the next nexus 10 instead.

    • You know I thought the same thing but I purchased this due to the price and the fact that I need something soon due to travel. (Mind you I only got 5percent off from ow not 10)

Having an ipad 2 previously and using an s4 as a phone I must say having a 7inch is a good balance of size. My phone is slightly too small to enjoy watching movies while the ipad2 was a bit too big for portability.

But I guess in the end its a matter of size preference.

  • Why is BingLee only gave me the option with Paypal. I hate paypal and don't want to use it if possible.

  • Just managed to buy one from Bing Lee with credit card. Must registered with them as a user first. Officeworks way to avoid price matching is to claim they have no stock, LOL.

  • I just purchased from JB hi-fi(nunawading) yesterday, the price I bought was 289. They are selling for 33x something like that, but they match the goodguys price.

I have tried OW nunawading, and OW doncaster, theye did not have any stocks. therefore, I have decided to go to goodguys in nunawading, but they did not have stocks too. For person who is looking for this unit, might try JB in nunawading as sales rep was saying he has fair bit of stocks.
    Hope this info can help.
    Thank you.
